I might try it. I could stand to lose a few lbs, by a few dozen..lol.

I didn't watch the whole thing, I might have to vary up some of the seasonings used, like salt, maybe lemon pepper, various herbs.

I guess you could add in a few other plant based foods like onions, cauliflower, tomatoes to give it a little added pizzazz.

I might just do this after I get my covid results back and am cleared to go out again. Should know on Wed. Thursday at the latest. Got swabbed Sunday morning. Yes, I developed some symptoms....diarrhea and a dry cough. No fever, labored breathing, or anything like that, so we will see how it goes.

I feel ok, so as long as I feel good, I am not all that concerned, but wanted to do the right thing. If I have it, I sure as heck don't want to possibly infect someone else.

You get to a point in life where you know you still have time, but if it ends, you don't feel cheated. I am at that point. You think back on the people you have known that passed in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's. They got cheated. 50's is borderline. Once you get in to your mid 60's and beyond, unless you somehow expect to live to be 120, you had a pretty good run. At least for me, the thought process goes from "why me?" to "why not me?" Unlike the garbage Mr. Rogers sold, I am not special. I am just one of 7-8 billion people on this rock.

I actually did it, albeit not completely exclusively, for about 6 months back in 2010-2011.

I would eat Subway for lunch (no cheese, no dressings, lean meats, lots of veggies) and nothing but chicken, white rice, and broccoli for dinner.

In addition to that, I got strict with myself on portioning.

I went from weighing 247 to 187 and along with adding lots of strength training, I had a six-pack at age 40. smile

Having been witness to hundreds of deaths over my career I generally agree with you. I will say I feel bad for those that are dying in their early to mid 60’s. Many were just looking at retirement after busting their arses in a long career. Knowing they put in their (work) time only to have their remaining un-indentured servitude time ‘robbed’ from them. To me it’s sad. At least if you get 10 good years of not being chained to a time clock it makes the previous 40 years a little easier to swallow. But to retire then pretty instantly get a death sentence of a diagnosis is just a boat load of bummer.
To me, any time post 72 or 73 years old is a good run.

It is, but it is what it is.

I don't look at it in terms of retirement. I look at it in terms of life. Going to school, learning something, doing a job well, getting married, having and raising children. Watching them blossom. Little League games, PTA meetings, family vacations.

Those are the memories that paint my life.

Hah! Finally got a break in the day to actually watch this.

Yeah, doing ONLY chix & broccoli would be a TURRIBLE idea, lol!
Crazy!

On a more serious note, folks wanting to get lean & cut but still have energy should look into the Zone Diet. Basically, it's a means of controlling/measuring your intake by macros: Fat, Carb, Protein. You go exceptionally low carb and if you find yourself crashing or losing energy, you increase fats to make up caloric needs.

Most of the Crossfit elite athletes use this method or a close variant and you simply cannot argue with the results. They're all majorly cut, super strong, and have tons of energy and recover quickly from activity.

Fitness in 100 Words:

"Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch."

I don't do it much anymore, but just use your body. There is a reason people don't like push-ups and sit-ups. If sit-up don't work for the back, go with planks. Plank out for 30 seconds, 20 times, you are going to have a sore belly.

As one who can look back, don't forget to stretch. Us guys forget to stretch enough. I wish I had earlier in life.

Pull up a few vids watching girls doing yoga. Try to do some of that stuff. I understand girls are more flexible due to muscle mass, but that is some very hard stuff.

I recently bought a barbell and have been scrounging plates as I can find them. Ditto for other Crossfit-type equipment.

In the end, get something and use it. Something is better than nothing, and right now it seems that the world is sold out of everything. I've been searching for weights and stuff for two months, so if you can get the Dick's Sporting Goods thing right now and you think you'll get at least a year of use out of it, then get it.

Consistency is by far the more important thing. As long as you're doing something and you're doing it with regular consistency, then you've got 80% of the battle won.

Run, lift, do plyometrics, do bodyweight stuff, do cardio... do stuff.
and Eat Well.

A lot actually has to do with the basic structural differences in the hips between men & women. It's like the "lift the chair with your head against the wall, then stand up" challenge. Women can do it. Men cannot.
It's all in the hips, just like Chubbs told us so many years ago.

Get one of these: Link

My gym has one and I'm amazed how well it works and if i actually had room in my garage I'd get, get that, barbell with a few plates and a trx and band set and you'd have pretty much all you need

Just make sure you think about head room with that kipping bar. You won't be doing many kipping pull-ups without at least 18" above the bar, which will need to be at least 7-1/2 feet up. Muscle-ups just aren't doable without a 12' ceiling.

Also, with barbells and plates, you will find what I've been dealing with: nobody has them.

Even the hyper-expensive Eleiko bars are constantly sold out. Rogue is constantly getting new equipment in, and you can sign up for notifications of when things become available, but you have to be FAST on the trigger because inventory flies off that site. I actually had a set of dumbbells in my cart and before I could proceed to checkout their status changed to Out of Stock. Someone got them before me.

I managed to snag a Bella Bar (women's bar) and I'm pleased about that because it's just that hard to get anything. Plus, it's a high quality bar; great for the Oly lifts... it's just lighter and thinner by 3mm (which actually feels like a lot).

For plates, I've had no luck at all with Rogue, but I have had really good success with Fringe Sports. They let you pre-order on future shipments and sometimes you stuff gets shipped before your scheduled pre-order date. I received my 10s & 15s on July 3rd and my sets of 25s & 35s arrive tomorrow. I also have a medicine ball from them on the way.

I just got a kettlebell from Rogue delivered today and I have a slam ball arriving hopefully tomorrow.

I'll end up with enough weight that I will exceed my ability to snatch and I'll be able to do lots of heavy front/back squats while taking the bar from the ground. If you don't get too heavy, you don't need a rack.... if you can clean it and stand it up, you can front squat it. If you can get it overhead by push press or jerk, then you can back squat it. I'll have enough other equipment to give me variety, and for box jumps I'll be just building a box because it's WAY cheaper than buying one.

yeah finding is the key, I've seen people down here being able to poach gyms going out of business from when they had to close, could usually get some things cheaper than you could in store albeit still commercial price point. I would never kip..lol, I lift heavy so even though i can push press 250+ my squat is closer to 450 so I'd need some type of rack, I love rack pulls as well so its nice to have that option. Posterior chain is my fav group. I added two things to my arsenal that I didn't think would be more than a gimmick but are crazy effective. A mouthguard and smelling salts.. I know..sounds crazy, but try the one from new age performance..i use on all my lifts now, i used to just chew gum but this really helps. Oh an I love all of the rogue gear. My gym has probably 15 of the Ohio bars. Dynabody is another good company for equipment. Their racks are top notch

You're a couple months late on this one. Trying to get reasonably-priced workout equipment for your home is still impossible. The rattiest iron plates are still $2+/lb. Should be $1/lb. I know because I was able to acquire almost everything for a reasonable price (I got a bar new, so that might not count)... but I'm stuck trying to find plates for it. I simply refuse to pay double what I normally should with the knowledge that less than a year after I fork over top dollar, people will probably be unloading everything they bought up over the past couple months.

I'd look for used/new equipment that would help with bodyweight exercises. A pull-up bar, TRX bands, etc.

Kipping is just a cardio version of strict. It simply allows you to do larger sets. It's no different than using lighter weight and higher reps on the barbell.

Damn, I wish! My 1rm, which was last tried well over a year ago, was 335. I felt I easily had 350 in me, but I was nowhere close to 400. Hell, I haven't even broken through 400 on deadlifts, yet.... still stuck at 395. Yes, I know, it's mental, lol

... except higher reps with lower weight on the bar doesn't carry a higher risk of injury. I'm a low-key fan of Crossfit, but the whole kipping thing kinda grossed me out.

cross-fit puts a big emphasis on form, and not needing it..lol *ducks*

Yeah I'm a purist, I think strict form and paying close attention to biomechanics prevent mechanical injuries. I see some of these cross-fit oly lifts and cringe and what people count as a rep while telling my spine: "there there, I will never deadlift like that so you are safe" But on the flip side anyone that gets off their ass and works out and just tries to be better than the last lift is alright by me. Different strokes

Oh an the Deadlift plateau i know well, thats why i started rack pulls, just set the pins wherever your stick point is and do pyramids to 10 for about a month twice a week with about 60-80% progressive working load, lots of breathing sets. I was stuck at 405 for like over a year, I don't believe in 1rm, so anything I credit is 3 reps. Now I can rep 485 x5 for my heavy set, I still do rack pulls and weighted hypers and barbell hip thrusts, build that posterior chain and the deadlift will grow. I want to get over 500 by xmas, prob won't happen until this time next year but thats my goal anyways..lol

I find the worry of injury to be grossly overblown, actually. And, I'd say that the higher risk is roughly equivalent because when things are easier people get lax with their form and move faster, and that's when bad things happen.

If I had to lay a wager, I'd say that the vast majority of injuries are from two categories:

1. dumb coaches that allow an athlete to attempt or work on kipping before they can even demonstrate a minimum number of strict (we always stressed at least three, preferred five, before allowing anyone to attempt working on them)

2. dumb coaches/athletes that don't recognize/teach that you do NOT swing from your shoulders as much as you do your hips and that keeping your core engaged through the entire movement is the key to efficiency, and safety. It is lats and core; the big muscles. The little shoulders are just along for the ride, and just like with strict if your lats aren't engaged properly, things are gonna get wonky.

Oh, I'm with ya.
Having followed some regimented Oly programs and competed on the platform a couple of times, I've found myself frequently saying "well, it's good enough for Crossfit" in wods. I've never done worse than 5/6 on the platform, though wink

Yes, there is some TERRIBLE coaching in Crossfit, but that is endemic to any large industry. I think I was kinda spoiled at my last gym because we all actually took it really seriously and had no issue telling someone to put their bar down or taking weights off it for them, but when I started looking around for a new one when they went under last year I found myself generally unimpressed with many of them. It's not unexpected, though, as when I went through the Level 1 course myself, the people that were there varied from those chasing the title to those who were true students/teachers like a good coach should be, so it is no surprise that you see the same range in the gyms. Just like I would *never* ask most "trainers" at a GloboGym for assistance or opinion, lol wink

Agreed. I was a fan for a while before work/life got really busy. I realized that I was VERY lucky that the 2 gyms I had gone to had excellent coaching. Comparing that to what I hear from others who have bene elsewhere, I understand the overblown reputation crossfit has from the outside.

So last Sunday I actually started the diet.

Definitely lost weight. And also I now and forever will hate the smell of broccoli and green beans.

I had a monster workout this morning, only for all that hype to disappear the moment I smelled those greens.

I absolutely see why mass shootings happen, cause imma go postal if I don’t get a GD double quarter with cheese within the next two days.

My wife and I don't care much for fast food or these chain restaurants that serve sub quality food. Yet lately we've been busy and probably ate that stuff 3-4 nights a week instead of cooking. I'm actually missing home cooking... Had a nice steak last night, first home cooked meal this week.

I was the same until I hit 55.
32 waist since I was 22. 44 chest.
bfp: 10-15%, depending on time of year.
Still had my 6 at 50.
Loved going to the beach with my white hair, watching all the 30-somethings stop in their tracks.

Then I dropped the Marlboros 3 years ago.
Instant 'dad bod.'
I hate it.

I've considered going keto for a while to see how quickly I can drop weight. I would love to drop 15-20 just to see how it feels. I could definitely stand to lose a few, although I still feel like I am in good shape, as I walk a lot and play sports. I just love bread so much lol.

I have to admit, I had a watermelon white claw at a party, and it was actually really good. I am not a huge drinker as it is. I like craft beer but I hardly drink it anymore as it just makes me full when I drink it.

I hit the coors lights after hockey, and sip the occasional bourbon. Honestly there isnt much better than an ice cold coors and a few fingers of a nice whiskey.

I could def get used to the claws though lmao I can't believe I am even saying that

Good thing weed doesn't have any calories LOL

For me:

Sativa = no munchies.
Indica = eating everything I see.
