My wife got me tickets for my birthday to the Michigan St. game on Oct 20th for my first ever Ohio State game. Does anyone have tips for things to do on game day? I think the game starts at 3:30. I've never really been to Columbus, just around it.

Thanks to dnadawg, I'll be heading down for my first Ohio St. game this weekend. Cannot wait! Look forward to hearing about where to tailgate, when to begin, etc.

Starting the trip on Friday afternoon, sucking down a burger at Thurmans, maybe head over to Frog Bear for some cheap bottles, then end up at Marshalls near where I'm staying for some cheap pizza.

is that the marshalls in Grandview? that bar has a kick ass happy hour.

As far as when you are in the stadium remember a couple things.

1 They do not sell beer. If you want libations during the game you will have to smuggle them in yourself. Airplane bottles are the easiest way to do it.

2 No smoking anywhere in the stadium, if you wanna light up find a stairwell or ramp.

nevermind if neither of these apply to you guys. just a FYI

Yes it is! $1 bottles and $5 large pizzas from what I remember. Nice little place to hang out and chill.

Get drunk, pee in peoples yards, throw your bottles in the street and after the game flip some cars over and burn stuff... they love that.

First off, don't listen to a word DC says.....none of that stuff has happened in months

KC, while most might recommend you stay at the tailgate til the very end, I'm going to go another direction. Since it's your first time, you should try to take in the skull session at St. John arena and make sure you are at your seat for the best damn band in the land's entrance into the 'shoe. I've seen it dozens of times and it still gives me chills. Oh and smuggle your tailgate in ,cuz the shoe is dry. Go Bucks

My wife took my sister to her first OSU game two years ago. My sister used to live in Columbus, and she is as big a Buckeye fan as anybody. My sister said it was an incredible experience. Every time I ask her about it she just says that it's awesome, and it's the most amazing place she's ever been to.-(That is saying a lot considering she has seen Billy Joel, Grateful Dead, and Garth Brooks in concert.)

My wife told me that the tailgate lots are filled with vendors that sell some really cool bootleg t-shirts that you can't find in stores. The vendors sell a lot of unique Browns merchandise, and of course Ohio State merchandise.
Save the drinking for after the game. Enjoy your first experience at the shoe.

well if it's your first time that is a good weekend to go...as close to MEEchigan as it gets

Are you going with some friends that have been to games before? if not then i would suggest you try and find some...it's way more fun if u don't have to worry about what to do next when u have someone taking u around...

I like the Skull session idea....thumbs down to the guy who told u to save the drinks for after Also, i would try to avoid Eddie Georges because the whole campus and their mom goes there,, it's too crowded...nothing special and it's way too expensive...

Skull session for sure...the band is simply amazing.

Does Tressel bring the team in for every session? He did when I saw them play Indiana last year.

The bands from both schools play some pep songs, and the team comes in and tressel and the captains say a few words before the game. Really a pretty cool FREE experience.

"Skull Session" is the one thing you have to do to get the whole game day experience!!! It starts 2 hrs before kickoff at St. John's Arena (old place where the Buckeyes played Basketball right in front of the Shoe). Typically the visiting team's band plays first, followed by the TBDBITL!!! It totally rocks inside the arena!!! Usually fills up quickly, so get there early to get a seat. Best thing about "Skull Session" is that it's totally FREE!!! Also something else you might want to check out before going to the game is the Varsity Club on Lane Avenue....party central...Beerdowner is right...check out Thurman's Cafe on Thurman St. in German Village!!! Always voted "Best Burgers in Town" and HUGE BURGERS!!!!!!

Sweet KC, congrats!! Seeing a game at the Shoe is an awesome experience. It makes going to a Browns game seem like crap IMO. The atmosphere is incredible.

I haven't been down to a game in a while, but as of now I will be attending the Illinois game which I am pumped about!! I was supposed to go to the Akron game but I had to turn it down. The games I have gone to have been with relatives so I never got to tailgate or do anything cool yet, but hopefully this time I will meet up with Saint and Cap and they can lead on!

GO BUCKS!

Thanks Looch. I know that I just want to see as much of the tradition as I can. I definitely want to see the Script Ohio and that skull Session sounds pretty cool too.

Yeah, I was a little shocked when I opened the card and two Buckeye tix fell out. One of the best gift ever if you ask me. I've been telling her for a long time that I wanted to go to a game.

I didn't buy tix this year cuz i'm not fulltime
I'll let you know for sure if i do end up gettin a tix for illi game..
