Reporters have no shame, no integrity..they sit there in shameful silence knowing they purposely lie.

These agents are clearly marked and clearly identify themselves as Federal agents, calling them storm troopers and lying is shameful.

Their uniforms don't have name tags because they are DEA, ATF, CBP and other federal agents that don't normally spend time guarding federal installations. These are extenuating circumstances. The type of work they do typically involves fighting drug cartels that have been known to go after the families of officers in order to intimidate them and control them.

These agents that you seem to have very little respect for are in some of the most dangerous jobs imaginable in order to protect you and your family from some of the most dangerous people in the world.

What I think people are unhappy about is the way these units are being deployed, in a state and city (soon to be more states) where they are actively unwanted by Mayors and Governors. This has nothing to do with the individuals and their commitment to the country.

Somebody has to do something. As a Mayor or Governor and just stand by and let things be destroyed, that isn't leadership.

It's a political maneuver. No Federal dollars to Washington state IMO. Put the burden on the people who did this to fix it.

Vers - as I said in the post, the bit you didn't include, I think it is the way in which these individuals are being deployed and the fact it is against the State's express wishes that is the problem. That's why posters are saying dismissive and derogatory things.

It's amazing to me that some folks are still either defending the protestors or looking the other way and blaming the government. This has gone much, much too far and I bet they are only hurting their cause w/most Americans.

Another thing, it's been over 50 straight days of protests in Portland? Right? I also bet that most of the folks who are protesting/rioting are not working and living off the government they hate so much.

I tend to agree the protests have gone on too long, how about organizing and putting effort and energy into actual change and progress. . . and many are probably students and folks not working, though whether their protest is about 'hating the government' or protesting racism etc - I don't know.

I think it started as peaceful, meaningful protest. And then, as is frequently the case, negative elements started acting up more and more, and began to co-opt said peaceful protests.

Long story short, I think the whole peaceful protest thing has been corrupted, and has been for a little while now.

Guess what? The number of peaceful protesters are growing now every night while trump’s storm troopers incited violence by taking over their city and gassing their mayor.

Also their are reports the storm troopers stepped up the tear gas potency to nearly lethal levels. What’s next? Line them up, and walk them into a chamber with shower nozzles with a back door to the mass burial site?

I am just very disgusted right now because I have spent a large portion of my life trying to help minorities and bridge the racial divide. I have joined w/other similar-minded folks to combat racism and fight better educational and economic opportunities for minorities and women.

I'm disgusted and saddened because I see a lot of what we have fought for being thrown away due to the violence, rioting, looting, etc. I think they win some "battles" w/this up in your face strategy. I think they won some right away because almost all of America was disgusted by the murder of Floyd.

It should have a time for us to educate folks and draw in support through intelligent, rational, logical discourse. Focus on being treated fairly and equally. In my experience, that is what most blacks want. Not all of them. But, most just want to be treated fairly, equally, and w/respect.

But, hate got in the way. Selfishness was involved. Ignorance once again reared it's ugly head. Thus, while small battles might be won, I do not believe that this type of movement can endure and produce a long-term victory.

That is why I am so upset. It seems like decades of dedicated service and progress have been thrown away in an instant.

I think you win w/intelligence, hard work, and good-will. Violent, hateful, destructive behavior only alienates others.

I have preached for years that do not become what you hate. Winning w/oppression and force only lead to resentment and mistrust. Heck, it's why so many blacks don't trust whites and/or the government. You can't expect to win converts by exhibiting the same behavior and philosophies of those you despise.

It's just very frustrating because there was a golden opportunity right in front of us.

I do wish the black people had a savior, though. Someone, who would take center-stage and unite people on both sides. Someone who is intelligent, fair, sincere, and well-spoken. The key is to draw in support rather than alienating the other side. You'll never draw the support of the extremists, but most people are decent and listen to reason.

I was hoping Obama would be that man. I was hoping he would speak of bettering opportunities for minorities while trying to unite the country. I guess he is still political.

Have you ever read the Homeland Security Act of 2002. (the Law Congress passed to create DHS)?

You do realize that this deployment of DHS Federal personnel to these cities means:

1. Internally, The US Government and the NSA have labeled BLM and Antifia as Terrorist threats to the nation.

2. Both the Democrat controlled House Intelligence Committee and the Republican controlled Senate Intelligence committee both agreed to green light this operation.

I don't think its sunk in yet what this means to most people.

Behind closed doors, BOTH political parties in the House and Senate committees green lighted this Operation Legend.

Things are starting to get real, DHS WILL track down every single rioter and looter and bring them to justice, there will be no place safe they can run and hide, they will be found....man they have no idea how much they messed up, but they will, they will soon...

Setting aside how some minorities might feel about being told how they should, should not protest (which is clearly a real problem for some) ...

The only issue I have is that if you look at ANY group of people from any level of society - regardless of color, regardless of background, regardless of education, regardless of wealth .... you will always find different types of people: good people, selfish people, bad people, sly people, people willing to break the law, kind people, social people and anti social people, articulate people and non-articulate peopple, hard working, lazy, sane, crazy, indifferent, passionate .... think of a label or adjective and you can find someone within that group that fits somewhat to one of the labels.

And while in normal walks of life, we don't label an entire group by the worst element within the group ... Not all the Browns players are brash because of Baker ... Not all Steelers are despicable because of Ben .... not all CEO's are currupt because of Madoff ... not all accountant firms are judged to be like Arthur Anderson ... Not all conservatives are white nationalists because of David Duke ... not all Democrats are far left because of AOC ... not all priests or pastors are sex offenders because of the Catholic scandals ... not all police are racists or rotten because of George Floyd (and the many others) ... not all politicians are corrupt (wel... maybe) IF Larry Householder is convicted ...

But when it comes to BLM, Antifa and other current extremists that may or may not be part of the MILLIONS of people world wide who have been protesting against institutional racism and police abuse .... suddenly it's cool and acceptable to label the whole group based on the very few on the fringes. Last comment - the same applies for Conservatives, Republicans and Trump supporters .... I do not think it is helpful or credible to label ALL conservatives or republicans as being racist or Nazis ... I've said so frequently, to the point that OCD got very upset with me and shouted at me to stop commenting on how he was posting and what he was posting. But just like we tell our kids not to respond in kind to the lowest common denominator - if there are people in the world that want to label an entire political party racists or Nazis ... it does NOT mean it is acceptable or valid to reciprocate.

Under the assault, 53-year-old Christopher David seems like a redwood tree — impervious to the blows. But in a video shot by a reporter, another officer — wearing green military camouflage, a helmet and gas mask — sprays David full in the face with what appears to be pepper gas.

Video of the Saturday night incident has gone viral. Accounts of it have been reported by news outlets in the United States and around the world.

Today, David, who suffered two broken bones in his hand, finds himself a reluctant symbol of the protests taking place in Oregon’s largest city and the federal response to it. Militarized officers from a handful of agencies have been using tear gas, flash-bangs, pepper spray, “less-lethal” impact weapons and other munitions to disperse crowds.

“It isn’t about me getting beat up. It’s about focusing back on the original intention of all of these protests, which is Black Lives Matter,” David said in a phone interview Monday with The Associated Press.
