Just trying to keep up but I feel like I'm always behind on the times. I was reading an article on BSPN about racial injustices at Iowa's football program - after about the 20th time of seeing it - I finally realized it must be a thing. Every time the author said "Black players" the black was capitalized. I don't think I've ever seen that before and I know I never noticed.
Then I read this: "We just didn't give them [enough time], white or Black, when they entered the program, to acclimate to the weather inside the facility," Kluver said.
Hmmm, didn't know of this new protocol - Black should be capitalized, white should not. Did a quick google search and found this, and other websites saying about the same thing:
AT THE COLUMBIA JOURNALISM REVIEW, we capitalize Black, and not white, when referring to groups in racial, ethnic, or cultural terms. For many people, Black reflects a shared sense of identity and community. White carries a different set of meanings; capitalizing the word in this context risks following the lead of white supremacists.
I can't, for the life of me, make any sense of the explanation, but hey, whatever keeps people happy for the moment.
Has this been a thing for long? Never noticed before today...
The Iowa article made little sense to me as well. Black players said they felt uncomfortable at a predominantly white college in a predominantly white part of the country and called it racism. I imagine any race in small numbers around any other race that makes up a large percentage of the populace might feel the same as just a natural reaction.
They cited a few examples that seemed like they could have been race related but we only got one side of the story. It appeared to me that the article was written to shame Ferentz and Iowa.
ESPN is yikes lately.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
I have worked with the police for 36 years and have much respect for the officers I worked with , by the way did you kneel for the phony BLM?
Do you mean BLM the organization or BLM the movement? Allegedly there's a difference...
But hell no I didn't kneel. Luckily I wasn't asked/told to but it didn't stop out Chief from subtly throwing a few out there. I don't know how she can do that as she's bound to policy just as I am. We aren't supposed to be making political statements in uniform.
I've been on the job going on 12 years and I'm in the pipeline for a promotion that'll get me off the street. If for some reason that falls through then I'll 99% likely be looking at getting out and heading to the private sector. I already know of at least 2 officers I've worked with my whole career, great officers that to this day I still look up to and point to my trainees as officers to pay attention to, planning on getting out by next summer. These are 10-15yr vets.
People say if you're truly a good cop then you have nothing to worry about. LOL that's a lie. I've seen too many situations where a cop who has a good reputation, gets in to situation and acts legally, morally, ethically, and in the way they were trained... still get burnt because either its politically expedient or because their "leadership" was too cowardly to stand up to the social justice crowd. This has ranged from falsely being charged to being fired on down to being forced to sign a disciplinary action form when they didn't do anything wrong.
If that's nothing to worry about, then I don't know what is.

I wonder how much wrong doing you and your fellow officers have looked the other way when it comes to other officers.
And we all know the answer isn’t zero.
The titanic had a good reputation too.
Reputation doesn’t mean much, especially since it’s mainly based around perception....
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
More proof the police departments are grossly overfunded, over staffed, and poorly trained. It’s time to send a percentage of those funds, to public schools and community service centers that have been grossly underfunded all along. It begins with teaching the young and taking care of the poor, weak, and elderly. You should look into a job with a inner city social services program. Help out the other side. You know, truly serve your community not dictate down to it.

While it might not seem like it as you read the board, I think that most Americans support you and your fellow officers. I know we support you over the criminal element that is trying to overrun our streets. We support you over the lazy freeloaders who don't want to earn a living and complain about our government and the police.
I do understand why you are contemplating getting out. Too much hate out there. Incredibly dangerous conditions that are only going to get worse as the media fans the flames of public discontent. Inadequate pay. New demands and protocol that only make the job more dangerous.
It sucks that the thugs, criminals, lowlifes, and their sympathizers have so much of a say.
Thanks again Mr. Devil ... Stay Strong as you have way more supporters than detractors ... not all of us profile those that protect us based off the actions of an incredibly small % of rotten disgusting apples ... we appreciate what u do for us ...
We’ve gone back and forth for quite sometime, and often PM each other to ask how each other are doing.

I don't support the criminal element in our streets whether they are wearing a badge or not. You try to present some portrait that all cops are good. They're not. Just like not all protestors are good.

You are from the same mindset of the people who would have spit on that service member 50 years ago and called him a child killer..... I congratulate you on at least growing beyond that.

More proof that the average schmo knows nothing about the job or the life of a police officer.

Here's what a lot of police do believe. The sheriff of Davidson County, where Nashville is located actually stated as much.
About 30% of the prisoners in his jail have mental health problems. Many of the time his officers spend dealing with the homeless population.
He feels the money they spend on these issues would be better spent on people who are equipped and trained to deal with it.
His claim is that if the police could actually concentrate on fighting crime in the community rather than being diverted to dealing with mental health and homeless issues they would be much more efficient at doing their jobs.
The problem is the extremes on both sides with no room for a common sense middle ground.

It's odd how in Trumplandia people no longer even try and dispute or consider anything if it isn't within their own "news bubble". Rather than try and look at anything factual they just say, "Yeah, look where it came from!".
Shooting the messenger has reached its highest level ever. But that's how you control information. That's how dictators of the past have controlled people. They get them to dismiss anything said that's negative about them. never look into whether those things are true or not.
Once you accomplish that, the only thing people believe is what comes out of the mouth of the dictator.
Like this...

Swish is easily in the Top 3 board members I'd like to meet in person. If I had more time when I was up that way for a game a couple years ago we might have pulled it off.
I like to think that if Swish and I were to star in a movie, it'd be one of those jaded cop and societally misunderstood black dude who team up to take down a white, yet ethnically divergent enough so as not to come across as self hating or white hating, bad guy operation. You know, like taking out a group of Sicilian or Ukranian mobsters.

Or we all can simply take out trump and his jackbooted storm troopers and vote for Biden.

I think us battling Ukrainian mobsters has way more potential for a blockbuster.
