On top of that, you could call the mascot "The Big P"
That's already taken. My wife calls me that.

I haven't been a big fan of many of them. I don't mind Spiders since it is an old team name. Barons or Crusaders would fit the same mold (buy clearly different sports).
The one I don't see that I'd like to see is the Moondogs. Could have both the Dawgs and Dogs in the same city, though I see where people wouldn't like that much. It plays on the Rock n Roll history without being obvious (Cleveland Rockers or Cleveland Rocks). I kinda like the sound of Moondogs but don't actually know what a moondog is. I goggled it and get WWE wrestling and pizza In the early 1950s the first "rock concert" was in Cleveland was called the Moondog Coronation Ball. It was organized by Alan Freed, who popularized the phrase Rock and Roll. That was my reasoning. Beyond that, there was a musician of that name and here's what wikipedia says: "A moon dog, moondog, or mock moon, (scientific name paraselene, plural paraselenae, meaning "beside the moon") is a relatively rare bright circular spot on a lunar halo caused by the refraction of moonlight by hexagonal-plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds."

If the team name is The Tribe, which it 100% won’t be, then Chief Wahoo can live on. That is not acceptable. I knew you would complain. It is totally acceptable.

Thank clwb419 - you learned me something.
Would you go Moondogs or Moon Dogs? I think I like Moon Dogs better personally

I don't love Grays but I could get behind it with the explanation you gave.
What about the Cleveland Armory or something tangential that comes from an armory. The Cleveland Cannons. I don't really know much about armories. I like Cleveland Armory but I'm sure some Liberal would get Butthurt as it suggests weapons storage. I like Blue Sox.

I would love Guardians if they did something cool around the statues on the bridge.
They won't, though. So it's not something we need to worry about.

Female lion drags back a wildebeest for dinner and asks the male "where's the baby?". Male lion says "<BURP>".

Anybody have any thoughts about the names I suggested? Like any of them? Hate any of them?
Guardians Cosmos Avengers Vampires Commodores I would go with the Commodores and our logo could be...

That's the first thing I thought of when reading that. I'm not a baseball fan so it really makes me no difference.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Cleveland Defunct .... because that's what they would probably be to me if they change the name. Why would you suddenly end your fandom over finding a more appropriate name?

I don't know but that is for a different thread. Nope. The reason the name is under review is due to pressure to find something that actually honors a group rather than adopting a term that represents a group with little to no association. Before Sockalexis gets brought up, please research the little support he had from the organization during and after his playing time in Cleveland. How can we honor a group if we ask for not input and come up with a blanket term that ignores the various cultural differences and unique qualities of many Native American groups. Not accusing you of any of this, Jester. Just saying there's a bigger part of this argument than "keep that out of here. Let's just simply discuss names."

I don't have any issues with discussing whether we should change the name or not. I respectfully ask that that be done in it's own thread and not this one

Sockalexis and a poll by the fans in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
I find it more problematic than inappropriate. There's a difference.

The name has been the name for over 100 years, and mostly without any issue whatsoever .... until fairly recently.
They change the name and I will probably bow out of following the team. I am an Indians fan.

Maybe it’s already been posted but I’d like to know what the majority of native Americans living in Ohio think about the name ‘Indians’. I don't know but that is for a different thread. Please re-read the original post - thanks I apologize. I truly hope I’m not the first to take a thread even a wee bitty bit sideways. What’s wrong with Tribe, as someone else suggested? Or would that still be too politically incorrectfor the snowflake, virtual-signalling SJWs?

No apologies necessary. There have been a couple comments about not wanting to change but for the most part people have stayed on topic. On page 8 and still on topic. When has that ever happened before? I guess my 1st thought on Tribe is that The Tribe that we call ourselves sounds cool but when you go The Cleveland Tribe it kinda falls flat - JMO I also think that if we do change our name that the owners would want to go with a completely new identity. Again JMO

The Cleveland Crucible Per dictionary.com a crucible is a severe, searching test or trial (definition #3) https://www.dictionary.com/browse/crucibleTell me that isn't appropriate. The Indians without a WS win since 1948. The best regular season record in the history of baseball in 1954 then losing in the WS. The 3 WS losses since the mid 90's, then add in all the crap most of us have had to put up with also being Browns... That qualifies as a severe trial in my book

Jester; My apology was sarcasm but I still like ya. But, if they change the name, I honestly think Cleveland Tribe rolls off the tongue well. also, it would be a nod to history. Baseball, and also the native thing

I can be a little Sheldon-ish when it comes to sarcasm, which is why I invented the idea of making sarcasm purple. And I like you too - notice, not in purple

If sarcasm has to be in purple then it defeats the point of sarcasm.

I like Legends.
There is a name that we have been skirting around. We tried recycling old baseball name (spiders and buckeyes) and old hockey names (crusaders and barons) but have skipped over recycling the name of probably the most successful franchise in Cleveland in the past 50 years. The Cleveland Force from indoor soccer.
