The officer responded by pointing a gun at an unarmed George Floyd all because he used counterfeit money at a store.
Would sure like to see other body cam footage where a white guy had a gun pulled on him in public for using counterfeit money.
This is white privilege in action. The majority of us would probably NEVER have a gun drawn on us for paying with counterfeit money.
As educators, we're taught to deescalate situations. It's quite apparent that pulling a gun on someone because they used counterfeit money is not deescalation.

Puhlease. I've had cops pull guns on me twice. They were white, I was white. I was unable to scream and cry about imagined racism. The first time, they mistook me for a cop killer. Luckily, they knew his ID. The second time, I had my wallet in an inside jacket pocket. I did nothing wrong either time. I was never a criminal, and I still had guns pulled on me. There are still more whites killed than blacks every year by police.

Did you know EVERY law enforcement encounter involves a gun (Because the Cop has one)
Did you also know many cops have been killed with their own gun because they naively believed they could either de-escalate or not use overwhelming force against someone who is belligerent.
The Police MUST 1-up a civilian in use of force, they MUST have an overwhelming advantage against someone who doesn't comply because EVERY encounter has a gun present and you can't afford to go soft and allow someone to take your gun and kill you with it.
See the two cops here who had the mistake of going "easy" on this guy. This is what happens when you try and de-escalate, or not use overwhelming force against someone who won't comply.
the 2nd they drug him out of the road, one should have had a gun to his head, and the other macing him in the face followed by a knee on the back and cuffing him...this is what happens when you don't use overwhelming force against a belligerent suspect.

None of these offenses carry the death penalty. Unless of course your punishment is handed down by a cop before you can ever make it to trial.

The kids where I taught at in Toledo didn’t really ever engage in that talk. If anything, they all tries to uplift each other on their identity. Some kids did mention they felt “weird” for being more light-skinned or whatever but the kids supported each other and said they are still part of the black community. Up was uplifting to see as many of them did things outside of school where they would be at constant odds with each other.

You and bothers know that statistics is little more than a manipulation of numbers to show a certain outcome. Yes, per capita more blacks are killed by cops than whites, but more whites are killed by cops than blacks.
Just like manipulating football stats, we could show the Browns are the best team every year, as long as no one looks up that pesky win/loss stat.

Wouldn’t you have to look at interactions with police as well as per capita? Also the percentage of violent crimes comes into play. Now I don’t think they should (profiling) but I know the cops realize those figures. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it isn’t so cut and dry as the two of you are making it out to be.

I was saying that numbers could be manipulated to show whatever a person wants. What you determine is "objective" is up to you, just like you found your "3 times more likely" study that presents no numbers to back up that statement.
Let's see how those numbers are derived.
If we take the raw numbers, 457 and 223 from 2017, and divide them by 100000 (per capita) you have .4% and .2% of whites and blacks killed by police per capita. If you base it on white and black percentage of the populaton, 60% and 13%, you get .7% whites as compared to 1.7% of blacks. 1.7 is 2.43 times more than .7, so rounding up to full people, blacks are 3 times more likely to get killed by police, and they leave out the "based on their part of the population.
The question should really be, what do blacks and whites do differently in traffic stops, or in encounters with police? Do cops treat blacks and whites that differently? Is it better to have a cop of the same ethnicity as the person they're detaining? I know the few times I've been in court the judge always asks the cop if he was treated respectfully. I figure they're doing a job that most people don't want, so they should receive some respect.
Schwartz and Jahn’s study is the latest of a raft of studies showing that black people in the US are killed by police more often than white people. Young black men are at highest risk. A 2019 study found that black men aged 25-29 were being killed at rates between 2.8 and 4.1 in 100,000.

I believe it was my first link - they guy said "compliance is needed." If a cop tells you something, listen. Live. Fight it in court. Or, act aggressively, and get wounded, or die.

Reminds me of an interesting article from CBS News that I saw on Facebook the other day. Basically, it was saying that some people think skin lightening cream should be banned. The comments were entertaining.
But it got me thinking....should we be able to change our race?

Interesting, I heard Isabel Wilkerson on the radio yesterday and she was so compelling and interesting to listen to. . . she was talking about looking at US racism in a similar light to Indian Caste classism. It very much talked about colorism and - for example - having darker skinned servants/slaves working the fields and lighter skinned servants in the house.... it was very interesting. I was in and out of the car - but she *seemed* to be suggesting that looking at how skin color/caste system is pervasive in the USA is an easier conversation that racism.

so when the italians and irish came to america, they were used to identifying as irish or italian. but over here, they are just white in the grand scheme of american society.
