Yep.
I love capitalism. But like everything else, it’s needs a leash on it.
Lately, it needs a choke collar.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

jk Not sure how I feel about thishttps://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/los-angeles-coronavirus-mayor-eric-003152701.htmlLos Angeles Coronavirus Update: Mayor Eric Garcetti Says DWP Will Shut Off Water And Power At Homes That Throw Large Parties Tom Tapp August 5, 2020, 8:31 PM Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Wednesday announced the city was taking action against those who throw large parties. He called recent gatherings of mostly young people in the Hollywood Hills and Calabasas “flagrant violations of health orders.” Los Angles Coronavirus Update: Large Parties Now Illegal, Says Health Director; Case Rate Among 18-29 Year Olds Has Quadrupled Since Early June Los Angeles Coronavirus Report: Mayor Eric Garcetti Contradicts State Officials, Says Underreporting Cases Has Probably Gone On For Months, Not Weeks California Coronavirus Update: Governor Gavin Newsom Silent On State Data Glitch As COVID Deaths Hit Record High “While we have already closed all bars and nightclubs, these large house parties have essentially become nightclubs,” said the mayor. He then indicated he would hold them to similar scrutiny. “The same thing we would do with businesses,” said Garcetti. If the LAPD responds to repeated complaints and verifies that there have been violations at a home, the city will within 48 hours have the DWP shut off service at that home. Garcetti also indicated that county health inspectors and other city representatives would be on the lookout for violations. Asked about the legal standing for his action Garcetti said, “You’re breaking the law. Just as we can shut down bars breaking alcohol laws,” he said, “in places that are in criminal violations, we can shut them down.” He said that city legal experts had vetted the measure and found it to be on firm legal ground. “We can actually do the power or water shutoff after a first violation,” said the mayor, “but we like to educate, not enforce,” . “We will not act lightly,” Garcetti said, “But we will act.” Earlier in the day, the director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health warned that the large parties seen of late were not only dangerous, but also now illegal. “These parties and gatherings hurt all of us,” said L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer. “We ask that everyone make good decisions. Don’t host large parties and don’t attend one if you’re invited.” She then went on to say that gatherings such as the one in Beverly Crest on Monday night are against the health officer’s order, and not allowed. “You can’t have parties right now.” “Gatherings are simply not allowed at this point under the health officer order,” Ferrer said. “Because they create a lot of risk for transmission at activities that really are not essential.” The Department of Public Health said in a statement that it “has issued a legally binding health officer order” that bans gatherings, including parties, during the coronavirus pandemic. The order aims to “protect the health and lives of county residents,” the department said. Violation of the order could mean a fine, jail or both. “We urge every resident in Los Angeles County to follow the health officer order and avoid organizing and attending gatherings that include people outside their own household,” the statement said. L.A. County reported on Wednesday 68 new COVID-related deaths. Total number of deaths is 4,825. The region saw 2,347 new cases of COVID-19. “This is likely to be an undercount,” said Ferrer, due to the recently revealed state data glitch impacting new cases. The total number of cases in the county to date is reported at 197,912. The virus currently has 1,768 in the hospital, 30 percent of whom are on ventilators.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. 20 people go to t a party and get infected. If it was just those 20 people affected, no problem. Instead, they see 10 people at the grocery store the next day, and then 20 people at work, and suddenly thousands of people have the potential to be exposed all because these 20 people are idiots.

j/c Twitter and Facebook Block Trump Video, Citing Covid Misinformation Twitter Inc. and Facebook Inc. blocked a video shared by accounts linked to U.S. President Donald Trump for violating their policies on coronavirus misinformation. The Trump re-election campaign’s Twitter account, @TeamTrump, was briefly banned from sending new tweets after it posted a clip of an interview Trump did Wednesday with Fox News in which he said children were “virtually immune” from the Covid-19 coronavirus. “[Children] don’t have a problem, they just don’t have a problem,” Trump said in the video as part of an argument for why schools should reopen. “It doesn’t have an impact on them. I’ve watched some doctors say they’re totally immune.” Trump posted the same video to his account on Facebook, which removed the clip shortly before Twitter froze the campaign’s account. Both social-media companies have policies that forbid sharing misleading information about the coronavirus that could cause people harm. YouTube also removed the video for violating its misinformation policies, Farshad Shadloo, a spokesman for the Google division, said in an email. While Trump has a smaller audience on YouTube than other social media sites, he posts frequent speeches, campaign ads and TV appearances such as the Fox clip. The Washington Post initially reported that Twitter had barred Trump from posting to his personal account, but later corrected its story to say that the temporary ban had only impacted the @TeamTrump campaign account. The @TeamTrump account resumed posting Wednesday evening after the video appeared to have been taken down. “The original Tweet from @TeamTrump is in violation of the Twitter Rules on COVID-19 misinformation, and we’ve required removal,” according to a post from Twitter spokesman Nick Pacilio. Though the president also shared the video on his personal account, @realDonaldTrump, that account wasn’t punished because the clip was re-shared from the campaign’s feed instead of uploaded directly, Twitter said. “Silicon Valley is hopelessly biased against the President and only enforces the rules in one direction,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said in a tweet in response to the company’s actions. Twitter, which had for years been criticized for its lack of action against the U.S. president’s controversial tweets, has taken a more aggressive stand against the U.S. President in recent months. In late May, the company flagged two Trump posts about mail-in ballots, part of a new policy preventing false or confusing information related to voting. Shortly after that, Twitter highlighted another tweet for violating its rules against glorifying violence when Trump tweeted that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts,” a reference to protests against police brutality and racism in Minneapolis. Facebook has also been under fire for what critics say is a failure to enforce its rules against Trump. In early July, an outside auditor found Facebook didn’t enforce its own voter suppression policies against the president when he posted misleading information about mail-in ballots. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has said that fighting misinformation on Covid-19 is easier than on other topics because the company has reliable sources to help determine what is true, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. Trump’s comments on children and Covid contradicted what officials at those organizations say about the virus. “Children and adolescents are just as likely to become infected as any other age group and can spread the disease,” according to the WHO website. The CDC says that while children don’t appear to be at higher risk for Covid-19 than adults, there are some children who have contracted the virus, and recommends they follow the same social distancing guidelines as adults. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/...-misinformationYet on this board many seem to hold everyone accountable except Trump and blame those who post what's going on by calling it bashing. Amazing.

Washington Post issues major correction after botching Trump-Twitter postThe inaccurate reporting sparked mass confusion on social media The Washington Post sparked massive confusion Wednesday evening after erroneously reporting that President Trump was banned from tweeting because of a claim he made about the coronavirus. Both Facebook and Twitter were cracking down on clips that were shared from the president's interview on "Fox & Friends" earlier in the day, where he continued his push for schools to be reopened in the fall. However, the tech giants removed the clips of him asserting that children are "almost immune" to the virus, citing the claim was "misinformation." Facebook and Twitter confirmed to Fox News that they took action against the videos uploaded by the Trump campaign. "This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation," Facebook spokeswoman Liz Bourgeois told FOX News in a statement. Trump campaign spokeswoman Courtney Parella told FOX News that President Trump was "stating a fact that children are less susceptible to the coronavirus.""Another day, another display of Silicon Valley’s flagrant bias against this President, where the rules are only enforced in one direction," she added. "Social media companies are not the arbiters of truth.”https://www.foxnews.com/media/washington...mp-twitter-post

Trump landed before 2 p.m. ET at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, where DeWine had planned to greet him on the tarmac. DeWine was tested as part of the “standard protocol” for meeting with the president, according to the statement from the governor’s office. His test, which apparently delivered results within hours, came back positive, DeWine’s office said. He will return to Columbus, the state’s capital, where he and his wife, first lady Fran DeWine, will be both tested, the statement said. “The President wishes Governor DeWine a speedy and full recovery and commends the job he’s doing for the great state of Ohio,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement to CNBC. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/06/ohio-gov-mike-dewine-tests-positive-for-coronavirus.html

Dewine is probably the ONLY person on earth to be tested twice in the same day, and get results just hours apart from his tests. Like, how does that happen? He was tested this morning, and somehow got the results within hours/minutes? Headed back to Columbus, got tested again (why? he tested positive only a couple of hours before) and tested negative, and got those results in just a few short hours. Things that make you go "hmmmmm" https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/ohio-governor-mike-dewine-positive-coronavirus-165911557.htmlHow convenient.

We have blood tests available here in SC. I had my results in less than 30 minutes. The catch is that they are not free. Cost $75.

Oh god forbid the body count be a little off. People are dying in droves, why are you so hung up on the numbers? Do you think those numbers mean a damn thing to people with loved ones on vents? The numbers are definitely corrupted now that Trump to control of the reporting. Shameful.

Pelosi blasts GOP: 'Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn'Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) lambasted Republican lawmakers on Thursday as congressional leadership struggles to find common ground for a new coronavirus stimulus package. Pelosi was asked on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" if certain ideas that would give money directly to Americans who need it the most amid the pandemic are measures that "both sides can agree to." "Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn for what you just described," Pelosi replied to host Jim Cramer. https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1291379441734758400?s=20 House Democrats passed a new stimulus package — the HEROES Act— at the end of May, but Senate Republicans didn't address crafting a package of their own until two weeks ago, when the chamber returned from recess. GOP senators have had trouble getting on the same page, as some have argued that passing another stimulus package while an estimated $1 trillion from previous relief packages has yet to be spent is irresponsible. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Thursday that he doesn't agree with the sentiment. “I’m advocating an additional deal. I’ve got members, some of whom have been on your network this morning, who think we’ve done enough — that’s not my view,” he said in a separate appearance on the CNBC show. “I share the view of the chairman of the [Federal Reserve] and the secretary of the Treasury that we do need another boost," he added. Nonetheless, an obvious disconnect between the two parties is still apparent. McConnell has made it clear that GOP lawmakers want to see the now-expired federal boost to weekly unemployment benefits that were rolled out in the CARES Act in March be reduced. The temporary benefits gave unemployed Americans and extra $600 a week. “I think we should not continue the process of paying some people more not to work than to work. I do think we need to adjust whatever unemployment compensation bonus there is to reflect that it’s not fair for your neighbor to stay home and make more and you go back to work and make less,” McConnell said. Republicans also want COVID-19 liability protection for businesses, schools, nonprofit organizations and health care providers. Democrats are against reducing unemployment benefits and giving out widespread liability protection. Additionally, there has been a push for another round of $1,200 checks to Americans. The Senate was supposed to adjourn at the end of this week and recess for nearly a month, but will remain in session next week in an attempt to get a package passed. McConnell has said that he is allowing senators to leave Washington, D.C., but he will stay in the Capitol as negotiations continue. https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5108...ho-gives-a-damn

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I saw this Dewine testing fiasco coming. He was scheduled to accompany Trump at the Whirlpool plant in Clyde yesterday. He suddenly tests positive and can't make the "political suicide" trip? I told my wife that he's going to test negative before you know it. I didn't realize it would happen on the same day though.

If you don't think a Governor is going to get a little preferential treatment, I am sorry, you just don't get it. Power always gets a little extra. Always has, always will. Just the way it works. You may not like it, but don't be goofy. Heck, I may not like it but understand that is the way it works in any country on this planet. In any county on this planet. My wife worked for a level 1 trauma center here in town. In her time we were visited by 4 Presidents. President Reagan, both Presidents Bush, and President Clinton.....make that 5, President Carter as well. A week before their visits, the Secret Service secured half a floor in the event the President had to go there. On the day of the event, every kind of top trauma surgeon, nurse, tech, was in house, standing at ready. Sorry, it isn't like that if we show up in town. You get whoever is on duty. Still good care, but no, the top trauma brain surgeon might not be there. It is what it is

40 and others were throwing that around a little while ago, and it sounded childish. After a few PerfectSpiral posts, though... not so much.
So I shake my head.

False positives and negatives happen all the time. This is why numbers are important, at least to those that like science. We still have no idea how virulent or lethal this disease is. We have a good idea about seasonal flu, because it happen every year, and just accept the loses. We'll have better numbers in a year or so.

j/c 'Peaceful protest': Trump defends audience at his golf club who did not adhere to COVID-19 restrictions https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/poli...lub/3324917001/Now Trump says that not social distancing and not wearing a mask is considered "peaceful protest". He is further undermining attempts at stopping the spread on Covid 19. I know of course that people will either deflect or ignore his role in the death count no matter the evidence. When the leader of your own country would rather make something political than put the life of Americans first? Houston, we have a problem. And Houston really does have a huge problem.

US response to the virus is met with incredulity abroad https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-response-virus-met-incredulity-063316318.htmlTrust me, Europe. The majority of Americans are just as disappointed as y’all are with our governments crap response to the virus, as well as millions of Americans who are too stupid and gullible to take this pandemic seriously.

I can't be the only one completely scared to death of what september and october could bring, especially with schools opening back up.
Colleges will open up as well, and with that other businesses.
CDC says there's a huge increase in kids getting the virus, and we're still knee deep in the current case loads we have now.
i hope this doesn't happen...but i'mma go ahead and buy some extra rolls of TP just to be safe.

- Theodore Roosevelt

The biggest insult is that every other country will enjoy the fruits of this research at a fraction of the cost of the U.S. customers. I am all for research and development and keeping this type of research here in the U.S., but there should be some sort of upside for backing this research or at least we shouldn't be exploited. What we need is a President and Congress that will push back against this unfair pricing.

I can't be the only one completely scared to death of what september and october could bring, especially with schools opening back up. You aren't. I personally know at least 3 dozen teachers, from K through PhD's... and they are all terrified. Teachers read and process information. They extrapolate data, and can reliably predict outcomes. They do it with teaching materials and individual kids all day, every day. It's part of their professional wheelhouse. They can see the graffiti on the schoolroom walls. This is grinding their souls into chaff, Swish. It breaks my heart. These people have been my friends and loved ones for decades. They are racing to fill out wills/living trusts, settling their affairs... while still trying to prepare syllabi, compile class materials, set daily lesson plans and attend thrice-weekly to daily Zoom meetings to address immediate logistics with school admin AND TPS Central. All of them feel like they are either mired in quicksand or slip-sliding around on a frozen pond. My own Krew is starting back. An entire season (usually planned/prepared 2 years in advance) revamped since May. Smaller works. Fewer playas onstage. Shorter rehearsals/shows. Socially-distanced performers (even backstage). Reduced ticket sales and socially-distanced audience members. And still, I'm uneasy about it, too. I love what I do. Have loved it, since Day One. I miss My Tribe. I miss what that sound does to my body, mind and spirit when I'm surrounded by it, as a contributing part of it. That said, I was willing to accept a cancelled season in the interest of not EVER being a disease vector. Krewz like mine, both civic-sized and world-class have already bailed. Some of the more structurally or financially at-risk ones may never come back. I'm calling my lawyers in the next week or two to make some updates. (gotta take care of mine- it's why I've always been tryn). Gotta stock up on N95's too. Bro: I'm on the horns of a dilemma: I'm at/near the standard retirement age, but I still work my job at a level that could afford me another 8-10 years, barring catastrophic health issues. In my profession, you 'separate yourself from the herd' when you can't keep up. I've spent a lifetime telling anyone who would listen: "I live to play This Music." Now- I'm being forced to decide if I'm willing to actually die for it. You're not the only one completely scared to death. Trust that.
"too many notes, not enough music-"
