Portland mayor condemns rioters for 'attempting to commit murder'

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Thursday evening condemned the actions of rioters who attempted to set fire to a police precinct and blocked the exits while officers were inside.

“When you commit arson with an accelerant in an attempt to burn down a building that is occupied by people who you have intentionally trapped inside, you are not demonstrating, you are attempting to commit murder," Wheeler said in a news conference with Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell.

It's about time he has the balls to call these people out.

I condemn those who riot too. I just don't lump the protestors in with those who riot.

This latest Biden gaffe is damn sure cringe worthy but still pales in comparison to Trump's various racists statements. I listened to the whole thing, and even though I hate that he came across like that, I know it wasn't meant to be derogative to Blacks. But that's not really for me to decide. You should ask the black guys on here how they feel about it.

At least Biden didn’t claims he’s done more for black Americans than any black American in the country, nor did he imply that all black Americans are loud and obnoxious.

OCD and Rocket, just curious, but do you ever hang around black people? As in the general public?

No. But I don't really 'hang out' with anyone other than my wife or family, and 'hanging out' is not something I really care to do with my time. Now if you are really asking if I have black friends, yes. I also have black family and other POC relatives.

On friends, I'm picky about who I spend time with and the things I do with others. For example, you won't catch me chilling with the neighbors for a barbeque because I don't care for those things or most of my neighbors. But I grew up with a close knit group of friends that are the ride or die type and several are black and POC. We still treat each other like family when we see each other, although it's more rare these days because I don't live close to my hometown.

When I was younger I was very outgoing and hung out in bars with my 'buddies' like you seem to do, but I don't drink and that is no fun to me any more. My wife's BFF comes around every now and then to hang out with her or stay a few days and we both have friends that will stop by once in a blue moon but I wouldn't call that hanging out. As we've gotten older, we've morphed into homebodies and grandparents as our primary roles. Between health issues, grandkids, elderly parents, and work we stay pretty busy just trying to be homebodies.

So a better question for me would be do I ever talk to my black friends and the answer would be yes. Do we talk about the racism stuff, yes. But we have always talked about that from time to time. One of the guys I grew up with, the youngest brother of 6 siblings was killed by cops for brandishing a gun in a domestic call. His slightly older brother was shot and killed by another friend of ours after being wired up by cops to be an informant in a drug deal. The killer was high off his ass and freaked when the older brother seen his wire, so he pulled a gun and shot him point blank in the chest... They were roommates and BFFs for like 5 years prior. The oldest brother of these siblings is one of my oldest and best friends. He called me around the end of the second week of the protests and we talked for about an hour about his brothers and how this crap never changes. He hates the rioters too, because he feels they distract from doing anything to fix the issue. So we've done a lot of talking about these things.

But as for daily contact or input from black friends about the black community, I don't have that unless you count Swish and Clem on this board.

Far be it for me to claim I know the mind of Trump ... but this seems like lip service and too little too late. We've had 4 years to prepare and figure this out and Trump and McConnell have resolutely refused to do so. Barr - recently under questioning - took a long time to answer a simple question on whether Trump should accept foreign aid to win an election. Actions speak louder than these hollow words to me.

Actually haven't Trump and McConnell actively obstructed attempts to research and prepare to counter election interference? To my knowledge Trump has never acknowledged what Russia did in 2016, despite the whole world and his brother and what every intelligence agency said.

You're right, but with this news he's not about to allow China to help Biden if he can stop it.

New York Times: White House reached out to South Dakota governor about adding Trump to Mount Rushmore

Washington (CNN)White House aides reached out to South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem last year about the process of adding additional presidents to Mount Rushmore, the New York Times reported.

According to a person familiar who spoke with the Times, Noem then greeted Trump when he arrived in the state for his July Fourth celebrations at the monument with a four-foot replica of Mount Rushmore that included his face.

Noem has noted before Trump's "dream" to have his face on Mount Rushmore, the Coolidge-era sculpture that features the 60-foot-tall faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

According to a 2018 interview with Noem, the two struck up a conversation about the sculpture in the Oval Office during their first meeting, where she initially thought he was joking. "I started laughing," she said. "He wasn't laughing, so he was totally serious."

"He said, 'Kristi, come on over here. Shake my hand, and so I shook his hand, and I said, 'Mr. President, you should come to South Dakota sometime. We have Mount Rushmore.' And he goes, 'Do you know it's my dream to have my face on Mount Rushmore?'"


Trump also toyed with the idea of adding himself to Mount Rushmore in 2017 at a campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio.

During his July Fourth speech to supporters in South Dakota, Trump fiercely defended Mount Rushmore -- which activists and native tribal leaders have long criticized for its history and purpose -- saying it will "stand forever as an eternal tribute to our forefathers, and to our freedom."

"As we meet here tonight there is a growing danger that threatens every blessing our ancestors fought so hard for," Trump warned.

A White House official noted to the New York Times that Mount Rushmore is a federal, not a state monument.

i saw some conservative loser talk about it's not fair to bring up Trump's past tweets because obama had 270 EO's during his presidency.

that's so freaking dumb, seeing as how trump is at 160 EO's with 6 months to go in his term and already on pace to pass obama. so if you doubled that up, he'd be at minimum 320, which is already 50 more.

The republicans were calling obama a king and monarch for his EO's. so so so so silent on Trump's.

Biden could just walk it back after the emails were released - "I was just joking"

I don't want interference on Biden's behalf and I'm not advocating for it ... and I don't think I'd simply be okay with saying Trump accepted it last time, so it's okay for Biden accepting it this time. . . . But given how so many Trump faithful essential said it was no big deal that Russia helped Trump get elected, it would be interesting to see how they reacted if China does try to influence the election at the same levels Russia did / will.

Of course we will hear - Russia didn't help Trump get elected because there is no proof what impact it had. In which case the same thing would and will hold true if China tries to or already is trying to influence the election.

I wouldn't want it or like it either. I was only joking around.

But I think the better joke would be Biden asking for trump's tax returns. I mean that's what seems to bother Trump the most. And hell, let's face it, Trump hardly even reads anything much less send emails.

Heard some hacker forum chatter about Iranian hackers getting internal emails and a huge small donor list with names, addresses, phones, and emails. But I can't find anything at all in MSM to verify.
