There wasnt a thread for this and I didnt want to pollute my AU thread.

So, MLS started their regualar season. Unlike the tourney they are playing in their own stadiums and some teams are allowing fans.

Apparently Dallas FC fans booed their own team for kneeling and the players are livid about it.

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/fc-dallas-reggie-cannon-blasts-fans-booing-knelt-national-anthem

Fans havent had a voice at the games until now.
Maybe people are getting tired of the crap.
Maybe people dont want to see politics in sports.
This might affect elections if people are tired of the protest crap.

I think ALL politics in sports should be banned. Sports is meant to be an escapist event away from regular issues and problems in society.

If I were a commissioner, I'd expel someone the moment they tried to kneel or perform some other type of said protest. No fine, suspension, you're done first offense. Its fine but not here, do it on your own time, not in the business I run. And that's what sports are, a business.

Just asking. What other job requires everyone to stand for the National Anthem before punching in? I’m not aware of any.

Only people who want politics banned in sports are those who voted for a man that endorses grabbing women by their vaginas.

I get that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don't understand how people can be so upset at someone else kneeling for a freaking song.

The national anthem takes all of about 2 minutes. Is it really going to ruin your day.

You 100% have the right to be upset about it. Everyone is allowed to think what they want, but I just don't get it.

I don't feel like our soldiers in WWII fought for a piece of cloth or some song. I think they were maybe fighting for what both stand for. Which the TOP item in the constitution is the right to free speech. Can you imagine what would happen in North Korea if you kneeled during their anthem? That's kinda the point.

Well, he/they have a right to voice their opinions. They have a right to their feelings.

Um........so do the fans. Without fans, he's looking for work.

I want politics banned and I didn't vote for Trump.

Politics in sports has been an on going thing since before any of us were born.

And it will continue long after we’re dead.

The military, for one. I can hear the anthem from the base I live near every morning at 8. If I'm outside when it plays, I remove my hat and face a flag.

I'm not asking for for it to be banned. I do think those guys playing a sport for a large sum of money should take a minute or two to show their respect for the country that built that excess they enjoy. Many countries don't have it so good.

Only if you’re outside.

Soldiers routinely ran indoors before retreat started playing in the afternoon.

And we stood at attention in the morning because that’s when formation was before PT.

Even higher up tried dodging the anthem if they could. It’s a running joke in the military.

Just stop it.

Stop what? I grew up on base. I'm not always outside when they raise the flag, but if I am, I show the proper respect.

I can't wait to see the salary cap go down. I didn't watch any game they kneeled last time. I don't see why I'll change now.

No wonder, it was Obama's military...I remember Obama purging Generals and various branch officers.

By who? There won’t be fans in the stadium, most likely.

On the flip side, the majority of the players are minorities and are sick of the racist crap.

On a less serious note - are you sure they aren't just booing them because they've been around for 24 years and have zero stars? smile

lol That could be the reason why.

I understand that AU will allow some fans. I'm gonna try to get in there and see how the booing goes.

I'm not sure about us yet. I know there have been several surveys from the Timbers, but no word. This being said, we're stuck in phase 1 and can't have large group events yet.

And speaking of stars - you should update your AU picture to oen with your star on it

Baseball with no fans in the seats really irks me, really feel it's an insult to my sensabilites, I watched about less than 4 minutes, which is a lot or me, but
you can't convince me they can't put some fans in some seats,
baseball with empty seats, is like a slap in the face.

And that's exactly what politics in sports is in August 2020.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Again with the accusation of "racist". You're such a one trick pony.

I'd watch maybe 3 to 4 nascar races a year, and two of those were road courses. Watkins Glenn and Sonoma, as I recall. I haven't watched at all since they changed formats. I usually got a good nap during the races, as the droning sound of engines would lull me to sleep.

Yes, some players might kneel, and they'll find that people will stop watching, just like before. It will stop, as these guys are capitalists more than anything else.

I haven't watched nascar in years, and I used to be a big fan.

My issue started with money. It cost too much, for me as a fan. Then it was the teams - money bought W's.

Then it was "driver, you don't bring enough money/sponsor money. We're going to go with the guy that brings his own money." Course, Danica got a ride. Wreck a mile danica.............but she was female, and brought in money.

I disagree with the sentiment of sitting during the playing of the national anthem. I support your right to do so but I'd also call you a piece of you know what. I'm free to voice that opinion towards you if you sit. Especially if its not on your own time, which when you're at work, that is NOT your time.

In normal business functions, if you don't like the way a company conducts themselves that's your problem. Go find another place to work. You mess up? You're fired.

You damn sure did indirectly. Why else would you mention nascar or confederate flags?

Here's a little story for you.

i didn't call you anything. i just said you can't escape sports with kneeling athletes.

last time i checked, NASCAR has mostly white drivers.

but at the end of the day, guess what Erik?

they are gonna kneel. the players are gonna kneel. why are you still watching? why still post on a football forum?

practice what you preach and bounce. cause all i see is lip service.

I thought I already explained why I'm here a few posts earlier. I guess I'll type it slower for you this time.

In the end, the players will give up this stupid kneeling crap for the sake of money. The majority of people still find it right to stand for the flag and anthem, and are offended when these rich, spoiled children playing a game want to be stupid, clueless rebels. They'll learn what's right before the season is 4 weeks in, or they'll start lowering the cap next year.

in the end, you'll be wrong.

they will still kneel, and you're still gonna watch, cause you're all talk, no action.
