Yeah .... so yesterday I went in for Facet Nerve Diagnostic Blocks at both sides of L3, L4, and L5 of my spine. It's funny ...... it used to be that they wanted a "responsible person" to be with me for a couple of days following anything like this, and for me not to drive for a couple of days following any procedure on my back. Now it's "Drive yourself. Please don't bring anyone else here who could contaminate us!". Anyway, the doctor set the blocks yesterday at about 10am .... and said to pay close attention to how I felt the rest of the day. I felt pretty decent, all things considered, until about 10pm last night, when some idiot swung a sledge hammer into my back repeatedly, then ran me over with a semi truck about 6 or 7 times .......... well, either that or the blocks wore off. I think it might have been the latter. Man, it feels like it did before, only worse. I don't know what the next step is, but from what I read online, it could be to stick the guides back in, and then incinerate the nerves causing this pain. Right now that's sounding really good. Seriously though, it really did seem to help for as long as it did. It didn't eliminate all of the pain I have in my back, but it did take away about half of it. I see the doctor again next week, and hopefully we schedule the more permanent solution then. Next on my medical greatest hits is to move on to the carpal tunnel. Yes, 20 or so years of DawgTalk and/or DawgTalkers has taken its toll. Had the lovely stabby/electrocute test done on my back/neck/arms/hands done last week, and it says carpal tunnel in both hands. I am going to do the steroid injections for that before I do any surgeries though. Getting old is a wonderful experience of all kinds of new and glorious sensations.

Yes, YTown, getting old does bring new issues. Some are readily dealt with, some not. You're tough - hang in there!

Neuropathy has taught me that nerve damage is no joke. Losing sensation in your hands and feet, numbness, not being able to feel how hot the shower is, etc... NO JOKE. So I feel ya.
BTW - I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel about 6 years ago and I did the exercises with the squishy ball and spring loaded squeeze grip exerciser 3 time a day for about two months. It completely relieved mine.

I'll have to check out those exercises. It sounds a whole lot better than being the slice and dice of the day. (or even just the injections)

I did get a single injection in each. But the real healing/relief came with the hand workouts.

I think my ulnar nerve in my elbows have become inflamed. My ring and pinky fingers are a bit weak and quite painful. Throughout June and July, I was biking, resting my elbows on my desk chair more and sleeping with my arm bent up under my pillow. I've got an appointment with me ortho next week. I hope he can give me exercises to get this under control. It sucks not being able to use my hands.
I had a carpal tunnel situation in December, but doing daily stretches, swimming and relaxing my wrists in a hot tub helped right away.

I've mentioned on other thread(s) my L3/L4 probs, failed surg back in 05, etc. I went the "spinal nerve root blocks" as well. Over the years since then the pain(either sharp or ache) has minimized to a 1-2 on a 10 scale. Once in a greatgreat while I'll get a quick but sharp piercing pain but they've subsided for the most part. Every day when I wake up and stand up, if you're looking at me profilewise..... .....if I was a clock and you're looking at me from my left side I read 5:55am. From the right side, 6:05am. After about 2-3 mins I'll get to 6:00am. I turned down the "rods/pins" inserted and fused together thing. Not a chance man. No way.
