Curious, if you're just renewing, why do you need an appointment?
In Florida, you can renew online or by mail, and as long as no red flags come up, they will send your new license. In Ohio I/we have always renewed at the Sherrifs office. At times a 45-60 min wait. Ya get there and 6-10 people ahead of me, etc. As a guess, never been more than an hr wait. I? BELIEVE? thats been the only place to renew. In person. Geauga County Sherrifs Office has always been terrific about it. Online/by mail isn't/hasn't? been an option.....I believe??? To acquire my license I had to go to a state agency to get finger printed and all that, along with the certificate from a state approved trainer. But after that we can renew by mail. You fill out the form, and then have to mail your current license and form to them, so I was without for like 7 days. I believe you can go down in person, and then it gets mailed to you next-day or something. But I was heading out of town anyway, so I wasn't going to need it for a few days.
