The simple question that all Americans should ask themselves.

I think the question was first asked by Ronald Reagan in one of his debates...but it was and is effective, allowing voters to reflect upon the recent past.

So I ask folks to answer the question...

Are You Better Off Than You Were Four Years Ago?

This thread will be a partisan cheering thread. 40 will be along to say how many billions he's made on stocks. Fish will be along to say how easy it is to get good conspiracy theory news now. Throw Long will be along with something nasty about Obama and the libs... very predictable.

As an individual, yes. Did that have much to do with trump? Nope.

Is the country as a whole better? Absolutely not.

Same here - Financially much better off.

Country and Environment and values I consider important ... no. And that's more important.

Nope. Lost my mother to the trump virus. Lost two sources of income and I didn’t qualify for unemployment compensation being on SS and I’m already using my 401k retirement funds at the moment. trump and his supporters can go to hell.

My 401k is up, but it was under Obama as well. Because I have switched jobs 2x in the last 12 years (and thus 401k's), I can't compare. The rest no.

Yes.

Met my wife which brought in more combined income for the two of us.

Have half of my masters done, she most recently did the same, so we both got a pay bump on top of our yearly step increases. These step increases eventually max on in relation to your degree and/or collegiate credits earned. This can encourage educators to receive further education, and more credits from college will help get you to another pay bracket where you can keep increasing your yearly salary.

Bought a house (money saved up prior), leased a car, saved money for other wants, and have done alright. Marriage gifts and saved money helped pay for a honeymoon.

This isn't due to the person in-charge. I would gladly pay more in taxes so others had a better chance to climb the social ladder.

I recognize my privilege. Wish others would do the same.

Yo how much would it cost to get a big ass Dodge Ram out to your area?

Sounds like the perfect truck for your environment.

The simple answer is yes.

Financially I am doing much better, do to good choices and willingness and ability to avoid debt.

In a grander scope I find life is fast, seems everyone is in a rush, there is little time to just kick back and relax. The turmoil in society right now, the political climate, the virus, all tend to lend themselves to this feeling of tiredness.

That question should be asked to the 177k families that Covid has taken from.

No president since Kennedy would have failed the citizens of this country like trump has in regards to this pandemic.

There are no excuses. Period. Listen to the tape during the timeline.

He de-emphasized the severity of the virus for political reasons from the beginning. Made false claims about treatment. Refused to wear a face mask. Produced no national strategy. Continued to lie about the results. Made false claims about children's immunity. Praised himself. Promoted treatment for drugs which was not based upon best available science.

This not about BLM. Not about law and order. Not about rioters and looters.

Not really about Republicans and Democrats.

It is about trump. A unfit, incompetent liar. Whose own sister a judge said he can not be trusted and is cruel.

Any past Republican president or for that matter even those Republicans that lost presidential elections would not have failed the people of this country like trump has done.

All the rest of this is back and forth side taking is BS.

Look at the Republicans who have some guts that stand against this fraud.

George Bush I and II both of them were real Americans. And they didn't want a thing to do with this creep show.

Evangelical hypocrites support a morally deficient pathological liar who was fornicating with a porn star while his wife was pregnant.

Then he brags about physically molesting young women.

Makes fun of a physically disabled person. Insults gold star parents.

Refuses to confront Putin about Russian bounty money given to those who kill American soldiers.

trump should not just lose this election. He should be dragged from office and kicked out of the country.

Those of you who like generalizing. Applying labels like lefties, radicals, socialists whatever.

Guess what you missed the point.

Like black men who father children out of wedlock. What about those who don't. What about those that live in the suburbs and are just like you?

So politics are now nothing but white, brown, black and red people.

How about what is good for Americans?

Like empowering the Middle class. Which is what made this country a super power.

No. Not under trump. Tax breaks for the rich. Crumbs for the rest.

Post WWII CEO's made 40 times what workers made. Today 400 times. We are becoming a country of rich and working poor.

News flash trump supporters try and get into the
Mar-a-Lago Club. Good luck with that.

3-5k depending on barge methods and such.

We're looking at probably getting a subaru outback or something similar. Currently driving a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with 4 wheel drive and it works wonders. The gas though, ugh.

Cross cultural education is the degree program I'm working on. Essentially I've been learning about how education systems should consult local experts, how to work with Indigenous groups to build curriculum that is meaningful for students, and build systems so more individuals from Indigenous backgrounds get to have a seat at the table in the education system.

Next step will be a Ph. D in educational leadership.

Doing better, yes. Investments are doing well. My business is making more than 4 years ago. I'm one of the few people the virus has benefited as people stuck in quarantine play lots of games and are online a lot. But my business was up before the virus also.

No. Not really. I was doing just as well under Obama...
The difference is under trump I’m wearing crazy amounts of hard to come by PPE to interact with my patients. My art career took a dive with the death of live music. My festival season that keeps the studio lights on didn’t happen. City art funding is drying up.
So no. I’m not better off.

Oh and my company cut our 401k match to 1.5%... so I’ve actually taken a pay cut in the past year.

Financially probably about the same today as four years ago... some investments have done pretty well.... some dropped in the last two years...

job is basically the same except Covid has made things crazy and stressful....

decided to start a new business with my brother-in-law during a global pandemic... so far it's been fairly stressful but hoping that it'll be a good revenue stream at some point in the next couple of years...

I don't want to say anything nasty,

The Holy Bible says, when the righteous lead the people rejoice,
When the Unrighteous lead the people groan.

I've spent 30+ years searching the democratic side for righteous leadership, and I still do, because i'll admit I'm not that smart and want to make sure I'm not tricked by something.

In 30 years Ive changed my view on 2 subjects,
From staunch Pro-life,
I looked at the crowds of teenage-ish ladies pasionatly crying out, holding pro-abortion signs, (Which stops a beating heart, and abortion is murder)

And struggled, why, My whole life, since God is in control, has he allowed abortion to be legal, and I see these crowds, (they are not crying out in support of murdering babies)

It took a long time to reconcile the paradox, that I now view.

Abortion is a terrible tragedy and when it happens should be with the readily available legal help of a qualified medical doctor/professional.
And nobody should make a profit on it.

I've also changed my views on the right to have unregulated firearms, some types should be regulated.

Worse off, in that 4 years ago, I still legaly had 8 full years in my future where Donald Trump was eligible to be president of the United States,
Apart from some democrats, or RINOs like McCain or Romney.

Thank God Trump is president.

A better question.....”is the USA better off?”

Under trump we have.........

Nearly 1/2 million US deaths so far. Thousands of businesses/restaurants closing and going belly up. Airlines are laying off thousands. New car sales are in the toilet. Grocery prices are thru the roof. Tent cities of homeless are continually growing in urban area’s. Food banks can’t keep up with demand. 1000’s of public Schools can’t afford to open or can’t even get the bandwidth for online schooling. 20% unemployed and millions new unemployment claims last week

Anybody that can truthfully claim the USA is better off is a fool.

So, in a political forum, in the year of a election the question asked is:

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

And it's not political??

Is the country better off now that over 177k Americans are dead and there is no end in sight? People are faced with mortgages they can't pay or past due rent? Kids can't go back to school? College students who don't have parents who can afford tuition face years of debt. Healthcare that was promised to be affordable and would cover pre-existing conditions? Bigoted cops who do get fired just go to work at another police department. Blacks are routinely profiled and face injustice. Gas and oil companies are allowed to drill in National Parks that for 100 years have been protected. The EPA works for fossil fuels and mining companies so they can by-pass regulations that were put into place by both parties to protect us and the environment we live in.

American soldiers are hunted with a bounty on their heads and trump turns his back. He invites Putin to interfere in our elections and disavows our own intelligence agencies.

Wild radical conspiracy nuts are ok because: "They like me."(trump).

trump refused to promote wearing a mask because he feels he would not look good. But is perfectly fine to promote drugs and treatment ( like injecting disinfectants) based upon zero scientific data. Real medical experts and scientists (Dr. Fauci) are shuttered away because they don't promote his agenda and make him look bad.

trump's lies turn into "misleading facts and inaccuracies."
Like his promise to turn over his tax records.

This is what we have after four years. And that is just scratching the surface.

So sure " I'm good my investments are doing ok."

Hail to the Chief of Lies and Deceit.

I wish I could agree with you - but pointing out these historically accurate facts about Trump (and you left a laundry list of stuff off here by the way) has been labelled as the Left attacking the Right ... highlighting these facts is apparently going to force ordinary folks who have (allegedly) been life long Democrats to vote for Trump !!

"Scratching the surface."

I could have written a book.

That is the "thing."

Generalizing and labeling. I am a white 72 year old male. Profiled as a trump guy.

I have voted Republican and Democrat. I don't lean.

All I want is a competent, qualified, intelligent person of good intent. A person looking for solutions and willing to compromise to get things done. A person of high character who wants to grow the middle class. I am not for handouts. I do want equal opportunity and real justice for all Americans.

I realize there is no perfect candidate. There is however, a choice. A choice between a decent man who has a record of working with both parties and a deeply flawed pathological liar who is divisive by intent and serves only his self interest.

The people who have left who were appointed republicans are now pointing to the truth. His own older sister who is a retired federal judge stated: "He is cruel and can not be trusted." But what would she know? Quaon and "there are good people on both sides" you know the white supremacists. They know.

I have avoided this forum because I do believe people have a right to choose for themselves.

However, this is a historical moment when we as a country must decide on who we are. I hope that enough people recognize that trump should Not be the person who represents all Americans. He did not win the popular vote. His inability to lead this country in a time of crisis has been proven. His true character has been exposed many times.

Regards politics and our response the Trump administration and the animosity of Trump supporter in the face of continued, virtually weekly or bi-weekly scandals/issues/lies/subversion of the norm ... we are in virtually exact alignment.

Maybe you handle it better idk - but when we provide factual based issues/examples with which to hold Trump accountable for his words, actions, deeds, tweets .... and we are called names and mocked and met with vitriol from the Trump supporters, and then told that we are the unreasonable ones .... it's led me to the point of responding in kind and on their level.

There you go with your paranoia. The right has been using the term TDS long before you turned your back on supporting a civil human being running the country.

Rather than discuss or admit all of the nasty things Trump does and says, they, and now it seems you, just don't care. It's much easier to label others for pointing out those facts than addressing them.

You aren't as important as you think you are. Not everything is about you.

Now you have something to whine about.
