Oh This sucks, he was the rookie Jabril Peppers type who won't get valuable on the field development, so no closer to being a good team 12 months from now.
Confounded it.

Wait another year. Again?

Damn it. He was my favourite draft pick, this sucks big time. At least we have some solid vets, and maybe Redwine can step up.

I swear - if it wasn't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all. This sucks.

Sad to see the injuries so early in the season. Hopefully someone can step up or they find an adequate replacement. Starting to feel like the year of the injury if you wear a Browns uni.

Dang, bad news to see

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I know that people believe everything they read and rush to judgment, but the Browns might want to consider Earl Thomas.

Is his career possibly over because of this?

possibly...

My friend from HS tore his when he was playing with the Patriots. He said he never felt the same, it took 2 years to fully heal, and he never had the same explosion. It made him go from being potentially a household name to a regular guy in the NFL chumming the middle of the roster and finished it in AZ.

Meh.

Too early to tell. I never had that injury, but have known guys who have. It's one of--if not the--hardest injuries to come back from.

He's young. But, the thing is that even if you do return, you are never quite the same.

Time to trade for a safety. Give up next year's 2.

Lousy news. I was hoping it was not this injury. Not a sports doctor, but I am under the impression this takes work and time, but even "recovered" players may not be right, or at least less than before. Hope that I am wrong.

Time to go shopping.

Achilles injuries are so weird. I knew a guy who tore his just going up steps at a basketball game. My achilles "strain" took six months to fully recover from.

Each case can be a little different.

The factors are: how bad is the tear?

Who performed the surgery and how did it go?

Then the player involved?

It is a bad injury. It is the strongest tendon in the body and allows people to push off while walking, running and jumping.

Rehab is difficult. Questionable if it returns to pre-injury form. It can take years and never be the same.

Of the 31 players who sustained an Achilles tendon rupture, 21 (64%) returned to play in the NFL at an average of 11 months after injury. In the three seasons following their return, those 21 players saw significant decreases in games played and power ratings compared to the three seasons preceding the injury.

No guarantees on this injury.

Delpit had a bad ankle injury last year. Does anyone know if both injuries are to the same leg?

My thought is since they needed the MRI to confirm the injury this leads me to believe there wasn’t a complete tear. The tendon must not have pulled completely free from its connection point. If it had we’d have known right away. Delpit would have known instantly.
With this my hope is the injury is less severe meaning his chances of a good recovery is higher.

I am just going to say that all players who get this injury seem to have a similar body type.

Kevin Durant
Kobe Bryant
Grant Delpit

They all have very long and thin lower legs. I wonder if that is a factor when it comes to the risk of tearing your achilles.

I doubt that.

Mike Soroka Braves pitcher just tore his and had surgery.

He was coming off the mound to field a ball. He just landed wrong.

I believe it is about that. Having your foot in an awkward position and landing on it so the tendon can not flex any further.

It is a damn shame.

Sometimes it blows my mind that these young guys in their prime; who are extraordinary physical specimens and are trained by highly paid professionals seem to get injured so often.

It happens all the time. During training camp. Pre-season games. And all during the regular season.

I been watching football a long time. And I don't seem to remember injuries being so common.

I don't know? Maybe guys are over trained. Maybe they are too muscular and tight. Maybe they are pushed so hard in training that they are more susceptible injury?

Honestly the way he talks about Cleveland, I think he would rather retire than play in Cleveland.

That sucks too. If he's healthy, he would be a good get.

One trainer I knew said it can be made worse with their regimen as well. Said there was a correlation between body fat and connective tissue and severity of injuries. He was talking about tears and damage around knees, ankle, Achilles, etc. Said it doesn't cause injuries, but it may result in a different level of injury, possibly secondary.
I sure hope surgery goes well for him, and he gets back okay. Really wanted to watch him this year.
