I saw earlier that the Jags out him on the trade block. Interesting that he landed here.

pretty decent box safety, Strong against the run. Prob how we will try to compensate for our lousy Lb's

According to radio report, he's a big Safety at 6-2, 215. Maybe fits that hybrid S/LB role the Browns seem to favor?

Hard to get excited about him based on what I've read - but he's another body and maybe a change in venue will trigger better play. But, getting him for a 5th rounder, if he contributes consistently it is a worthy trade.

pretty decent box safety, Strong against the run. Prob how we will try to compensate for our lousy Lb's I know PFF isn't the be all/end all, but... Per Pro Football Focus’ advanced metrics, Harrison was the league’s 65th-best safety out of 83 qualified players in 2019, and PFF was especially harsh in assessing his run defense. Though he did score well in pass coverage, the Jags apparently aren’t fond enough of his play to keep him around for his third professional season. Instead, the team may look to fifth-round rookie Daniel Thomas to play a big role right away. https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/jaguars_to_trade_safety_ronnie_harrison/s1_14819_32778791

He had a 60.9 overall ranking according to PFF for an average rating. At least I think yellow means average. https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/ronnie-harrison/49206

Just for reference: Sendejo 73.3 Joseph 69.9 Redwine 66.4 But as I said above - getting him for a 5th rounder, if he contributes consistently it is a worthy trade.

I thought Harrison was good coming out of Alabama. Maybe a different scheme will help.

The Jags are in a roster purge.
This is a low risk high reward move. He was on two Nat title teams. He played for Saban. He is 23 years old and has been a starter.
A fifth rounder is not guaranteed a roster spot.
So, even if he is depth this is a good thing.
Joseph, Sendejo, Redwine and then we had zip. So Harrison is a good add in light of losing Delpit.
Can not fault this deal.

Pretty good article on the state of Ronnie - 2020... IS RONNIE HARRISON POISED FOR A BREAKOUT IN 2020? 5/26/20For the Jaguars to flip the proverbial switch in 2020, they will need several of their young contributors to become more reliable. In particular, Jacksonville could use breakout seasons from the first two defenders they selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Jaguars first-round pick from that draft class, Taven Bryan, was quietly one of the Jaguars’ biggest playmakers on a per snap basis in 2019 and will need to carry over his success into a bigger role in ‘20. The second defensive player the Jaguars added via the 2018 draft? Ronnie Harrison. The versatile safety from Alabama inexplicably fell to the third round, as less talented safeties like Terrell Edmunds and Tracy Walker went before Ronnie Harrison. The selection of Harrison was a bit of a luxury for the Jaguars at the time — they had two quality starters in Tashaun Gipson and Barry Church. But declining returns from Church saw Harrison find the field during his rookie year, and he eventually took over the starting job in week 13, only to suffer a season-ending injury two weeks later. Entering 2019, Harrison was a player who many believed would take a leap to become a quality starting safety. But as was the case for many Jags’ defenders in 2019, consistency was an issue. Harrison had some standout performances for the Jaguars last season, but he also had his fair share of stinkers. The second-year safety struggled out of the gates, picking up three penalties in the first three games of 2019, and was a bit of a liability in coverage. But over the course of the season, Harrison’s play improved. In 14 games, the young safety picked up 71 tackles, nine passes defended, two interceptions, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. In the two games Harrison missed due to injury, the Chargers and the Buccaneers moved the ball against Jacksonville’s defense with ease. Expectations should be relatively high for the former All-SEC safety. Entering his third year as a pro and second full season as a starter, Harrison’s ability and experience should allow him to become a more consistently impactful defender. The talent in front of Harrison won’t hurt either. Having Joe Schobert at middle linebacker and Myles Jack on the outside should help the entire defense play with more cohesion. With Al Woods and DaVon Hamilton clogging up rushing lanes, Harrison should be able to move more freely towards the ball. His versatility is key for the Jaguars, as they don’t utilize the traditional strong and free safety roles, rather Todd Wash deploys two safeties that can both play the run and the pass. He’s shown the propensity to be a playmaker, but as I said before, he needs to eliminate the low valleys in between the high peaks of his play. Where specifically can Ronnie Harrison improve? He has proven to be a strong tackler, but at times his angles and anticipation have been lacking in run support. If he could clean up the mental side of things just a bit, that would help. In coverage, Harrison has certainly been above-average, but a few more big plays here and there would really enhance his value. At 23 years old, Harrison will be playing in the second-to-last year of his rookie contract in 2020. A breakout campaign could see his value rise greatly. And with a plethora of cap space set to be available to the Jaguars in 2021, Harrison could be a candidate for an early extension if he develops the way the coaching staff expects him to in the upcoming season. “I think he’s (Ronnie Harrison) someone that just needs to keep continuing on the path he’s going,” said Jaguars’ head coach Doug Marrone. “And he can be — he is a good player for us now — but he has the ability, if he keeps working hard, to be an excellent player in this league.” I tend to agree with Marrone. Hard work on and off the field will allow Harrison to develop into one of the better do-it-all type safeties in the NFL today. Make no mistake — he’ll need to put in the work to take the next step. https://www.genjag.com/jacksonville-jaguars-news/is-ronnie-harrison-poised-for-a-breakout-in-2020

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Feels like it, but 6', 215# is a BIG free safety.
The comments above said something about him improving between year 1 and 2 and from what I read he was a in the box safety in college. So, maybe a good hybrid candidate if he can keep improving.

6'3" and 215.
The thing is: he is 23. He is under control for 2 more years at low cost.
A starter coming from a great college program under a very pro ready college.
Not the type guy you normally can get at this time.

Why sugar coat this, because the team has underperformed since 2006. A Roster change a week before opening day screams desperation. Somebody looked up and said, Oh MY Gosh, we can't field a team, or at least we can't field "this" type of a team. This is a kind of thing "the expansion" Browns might have done in 99' BUT! The Browns have been known to do similar, (a roster change a week before opening day), 3 of the last 4 years! Looking at Jimmy Haslem. Real NFL teams that have their crap together, don't do this, or aren't forced by desperation to dial 1-800-quarterback, or 1-800-oh-my-gosh-our-defense-is-terrible. Alarming! (Am I wrong, someone make the case I'm wrong, because I feel the team is a plummeting fireball) Still churning at the bottom of a waterfall, The Cleveland Browns since, pick a year. OH! and Hey! We've seen STELLAR results in season openers for the last Generation, Yes 18 years is a "generation" (1 opening day win since 99) What do we expect, we've put up with it since REAGAN was in office! Unbelievable. Searching for plug and play a week before the opener would be like a Boxer looking to rent a mouthpiece after he steps trhough the ropes of a title fight, Like the stunning Jamacian Bobsled team, which inspired the movie "cool runnings" having to rent, or find a bobsled after they get to the Olympics. Erm. I'm crazy, He's not going to play, He's not going to see the field, naturally, of course, He won't see the field, because if he Plays, if he plays meaningful or many snaps, it means, they are relying on him, and I'm right.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

When i first glanced the headline, I though, "Rodney Harrison? Didn't he retire a decade or so ago???"

Not a huge fan of players like Harrison. I don't think he is all that good in coverage and I still wonder who is going to play FS?
I also don't believe the one quote from the "reporter" who put out the way Saban felt about Fitz and this dude. Everyone who follows 'Bama even just a little bit knows that Fitz was like son to Saban. And the other guy...Charles Robinson....I swear he is on the Brown's payroll. LOL
Too bad we didn't trade for Joe Schobert instead.

It’s rarely a bad thing to pick up an experienced player on a rookie contract. Harrison will likely contribute more than any fifth round pick.

I have been wondering about what is going on in Jax for awhile. On the surface, it seems like they are tanking and shipping out good players.
On the other hand, I wonder if that locker room was toxic. I know there have been rumors about guys like Fournette and Ramsey's character issues. Ngakoue was being difficult. Wonder if Harrison was an issue, too....especially considering they replaced him w/a dude I never heard of.
Most of this is pure speculation, but I do wonder if Jax felt the need to cleanse the locker room of the players that were creating a toxic environment. It wasn't all that long ago that they had a late lead against NE in the AFC championship game.

Seems like a good move. Young, position of need, years left on his contract ... don’t know much about him as a player
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Real sensible and fair eval IMO. Now we see how he is onfield. Even at depth status, smart is OK and he seems bigger than average. Welcome to The Land. Wen some.
