my guess: Tribe vs Yanks

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

NYY is a good matchup for the Tribe. Plus, they’re playing horrendously of late. I like the Indians in two games

Having said that, I have no doubt that we will see him in a leverage situation vs Judge or Stanton and we better hope he doesn't leave that cement-mixer breaking ball of his up and over the plate. In the meantime, who's our backup 1B after Santana?

I believe it would be Mike Freeman.

Freeman, and Reyes has played 1st as well.

Not to be argumentative, but neither of those guys has any meaningful experience at 1B. Reyes played 3 games at 1B and that was in Rookie League and low A League in 2012 and 2015. Never played it in the majors. Freeman has played 1B three times in the bigs, and he's a .230 hitter, .645 OPS. Would it maybe make some sense to only carry 2 catchers instead of 3, and call up Jake Bauers or Bobby Bradley for backup at 1B and possible PH duty?

Reyes will not be the emergency first baseman. It would be Josh Naylor.

At all levels of professional baseball, Naylor has logged 265 games at first and 2,238 total innings.

Thanks for the info. Certainly a better solution than Mike Freeman. I was having visions of Michael Martinez making the last out in the 2016 WS with the tying run on base. It always bugged me that it all came down to him.

Great fundamentals by Lindor and the 3rd baseman. rolleyes

First off, get the out. Secondly, cover the bag just in case. Sheesh.

Indians just aren’t good, too many holes up and down the lineup. You can’t count on pitching to bail you out every game

Gotta hope Cole throws a few more gopher balls

So, why is he throwing so many first pitch fastballs over the plate? I get mixing it up, but keep it off the plate.

Lame. Was excited to watch this tonight. Nothing like losing early.

Good thing about losing early is that you can turn the game off and do something else.

Tough night. Ugh. Beiber blew up. crazy

I wonder if Tito would have made a difference.

Tito isn't a 9 run difference, but I'm not sure I want Alomar managing this team permanently.

Carrasco vs Tanaka should be a good matchup. I expect a bounce back game .. Tribe needs their hitters to be much better obviously

Sandy isn't Tito, and doesn't have the experience, but it doesn't help when your ace goes out and throws batting practice.

That has been the trend with this team since forever. The ace goes out and gets lit up, sans one year of Corey Kluber.

One of the local radio sports-talk guys wondered aloud yesterday whether we should go with Carrasco yesterday vs Gerrit Cole, who's arguably one of the top 2 pitchers in the game (Jake deGrom) because it was Bieber's first post-season appearance. Well, this guy got lit up by his co-host, his producer, and the callers. To be honest, while I could see it both ways, I agreed with the consensus that it would send a terrible message to your club and to Bieber. Send your best against their best, and let the chips fall ... and boy, did they fall.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight, I think it might have been the correct move.

It's hard to know how a guy will react to the pressure in his first appearance on the big stage.

My wife and I were watching the game and I pointed out how quick and deep his breaths were. I swear that it looked like he was close to hyperventilating. Hard to pitch effectively when you are battling your nerves like that.

The yankees batters grind the hell out of you too, he threw 105 pitches in just 4 innings and change

that was the thing: they took so many breaking balls

Carracco is erratic, our whole pitching staff forgets how to pitch as soon as playoffs start.

Good early hook . Carracco would get ahead 0-2 and end up walking them.

That must be the 4th or 5th time I've seen Deshields break in on balls he needed to go back on. Oh, and he's also a horrible baserunner. This team falls in love with the damnedest players sometimes. At least Mercado can field the position and run the bases, even if he forgot how to hit this year.

Did anyone doubt that the ex-Indian was going to come back and bite us in the ass? Good job, bleeping Karinchak, good job!
