Our 4 and 5 hitter cannot hit a sac fly to bring a run.

Maddening.

Santana shouldn’t be even on team . He just doesn’t do anything

Frankie another “star” that can’t deliver when it counts. I have to believe this would be a different team under Tito. Love sandy but he’s not a long term solution

Need to sell off some of this pitching for offense, simple as that

I've been checking in and out on the game .... and did I see right? We pulled our best hitter in this series, Josh Naylor, for Jordan Luplow???

Tribe takes a 9-8 lead and still have 2 on with no outs.

Let's go Tribe!

We can. All we need to do is make him throw strikes which he struggles with. We won't but we could.

In the WS, I don't think he threw 3 pitches in any at bat that would have been strikes had we not been swinging at everything.

Ugh

So here we are again. Five+ years into this incredible revolving door of pitching. A staff that year in and out we simply run out of superlatives to describe...

22 runs in two games and an early exit.

Sounds about right!

j/c:

I believe our pitching staff walked 12 batters. That is incredibly bad and much too hard to overcome. Throw in some sloppy fielding and the inability to at least put the ball in play a couple of times and the season is over.

Btw----I don't follow baseball anymore, but it seems like each year, the Tribe finds good pitchers. Is it their scouting team or have they traded for most of them? I'm including some of the guys who are now gone, such as Kluber, Bauer, etc.

I was just shocked that the starters couldn’t give the Tribe any more

What strikes me is the very strength of the team, year after year, seems to betray them in the postseason. Pitching this year, defense and pitching the last time we couldn't get past an underdog Yankees.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

The Indians are known for their ability to develop pitchers throughout baseball. Their front office is very data driven and is able to cultivate pitchers and strengthen what they do well.

The playoffs are a roll of the dice. As Billy Beane once said, “Out [poop] doesn’t work in the playoffs.”

Maybe if the owners were willing to spend money the Indians would have a better chance in the playoffs.

Lovely.

And it all started with a 3-1 lead in the 2016 WS...

At that point the Tribe had won 9 of it's last 11 playoff games. At that point Francona had won 11 0f his last 12 World Series games!

We were on top of the world - unbelievable!

I believe Bieber, Civale, and Plesac were all drafted the same year by the Indians. McKenzie and Karinchak were also drafted and developed by the team. Now, if only we knew how to scout, draft, and develop hitters, especially outfielders.

Thanks to you and cfrs for answering my question.

Even as an outsider, I have noticed how many quality pitchers the Indians have had over the last several years. It's pretty amazing.

You never know what you will do in crunch time, but a strong pitching staff usually results in giving you a chance to have sustained success.

Btw----Cinci wasted a magnificent outing by Bauer yesterday.

Bauer was the pitcher I really hated letting go. IMO, he's right there with Cole and deGrom in terms of "stuff". Plus I kind of like his offbeat personality.

After a season w/o fans in the stands as a source of revenue, the Dolans will really seize this opportunity to slash payroll further.

Lindor traded.
Santana gone.
Hernandez gone.
Hand gone.
Jose Ramirez traded.

Renewing my season tickets now seems like a horrible mistake.
