It's amazing how good your third and fourth string RB's can look behind a great OL.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It's nice to see and read, but it's also early and we've played a few weak teams. This will be more impressive if we're still holding these leads at the halfway point of the season.

I hope we are seeing the team getting confident in the new system, and only get better and more consistent as the season progresses.

The following teams will be fighting for 3 spots:
Pittsburgh New England Las Vegas Indianapolis Cleveland
Coincidentally, we play 3 of them out of our next 4 games
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If we just beat two or three of the ones we play, we take care of our own business.

One thing that may come into play (and is important to understand), especially with an extra playoff spot, is a division tie-breaker. When multiple teams have the same record, division tie-breakers are applied FIRST in determining Wild Card participants... In other words, CLE may have a better conference record (or other tie-breaker advantages) than other teams with the same record, but if (as an example) PIT wins the a tie-breaker against CLE (head-to-head sweep or better division record), CLE is eliminated.
If you do not survive the division tie-breaker you're DONE, regardless of how you stack up with other teams.
We must take care of our division opponents and beat the Steelers, at least once, if we expect them to also challenge for a wild card.

So... essentially what you're saying is that teams in weak divisions have a huge advantage if records are close?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Way early to be talking about playoffs.
Lets just take it one game at a time, then around week 12-13 we can talk about playoff possibilities.

The only advantage of being in a weak division is there probably won't be three teams in playoff contention, so if your record is Wild Card worthy, chances are you're not tied with another team whose is as well.
Bottom line is, if you're in a division with three good teams (one division winner and two possible Wild Cards), you have to survive tie-breakers with your division opponent before you even size up other tie-breakers.

Wise comment, BUT the homers, starstruck, and dreamers must have their say. We hadn't had winning record in 19 years and some are talking playoffs.
Dreams are wonderful, glad we have a HC who is keeping all the players GROUNDED. Love the HC and his minions....Go Browns!!!

j/c - in one word: "Professionalism"
What has been the affect of the new coaching staff been so far? Outside of the Ravens game where we did look decidedly poor ... we've been like a well run football team. We've had a plan on offense. Players know their role. They give 100% effort. Coaches are calm and making smart decisions even though I might not agree with every call. Penalties are down. Our playmakers are making plays. There isn't drama, gold watches, or other distractions. KS looks like he absolutely belongs as a HC in the NFL. The QB is accepting and improving with coaching. We beat teams we should beat - we won a game at Dallas where Dallas were favorites. We scored 49 freaking points!
Be interesting to see how that all comes together when we play some really good teams. But it's a very promising start to Stefanski's career as a HC.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I am not suggesting they should care. In fact I never want the coaches or GM or anyone in the organization to listen to any of the fans .... they should know more than any of us and I want them to succeed based on their abilities and convictions!

I don’t know it’s all Stefanski or the coaching staff (I assume it’s a big part of it), but I’ve liked our resiliency and workmen-like attitude thus far. Hopefully it continues

We have a long way to go to turn this franchise around from the toxic culture that existed before and especially during Haslam's ownership. Constant upheaval and turnovers, and a revolving door of both staff and players. Horrible win-loss records.
I think it starts with getting talent, obviously, which Dorsey did. The second thing I think you need is people who are in defined roles who collaborate, rather than mettle or "flex their muscles" which is where Dorsey - and especially Haslam - struggled. I don't know if the people we have will succeed, but it does appear they collaborate and work very well together. End result remains to be seen.
From there on out, I think it is about learning to win. First, you have to win the games that you should win, which, for us, was the Bengals and Redskins. Then, you need to start winning games where you are evenly matched, or slightly outmatched (on paper). Once you accomplish that, you have to be able to punch one of the proverbial gorillas in the mouth, and beat a team that is elite.
Throughout all of that, there has to be a resilient culture that can deal with losses and bumps in the road. If anything, i think the past few staffs/regimes have struggled here the most. Freddie was bad here. Hue threw other people under the bus. Farmer drove Shanahan out of the building.
I think it's really about making all of this come together in having that collaborative working environment, everyone knowing his role and place, getting the right talent at the right value, and lastly learning how to win consistently.
Fingers crossed.

That is staggering. I guess that's why the 3rd strong RB came in and looked so good To be fair I thought Johnson looked like he was very capable with nice burst, not easy to bring down and ability to make the first guy miss.... Nice job Callahan.

Nice job Callahan. And staggering is what opposing defenses are already expecting to do when facing this unit. It is the brightest ray of sunlight in this young season. How many times in the past have we watched a team go out expecting to lose the battle in the trenches? Expecting to get beat by the Pissburgh offensive ot defensive line? Watching a team play to the level of it's competition and literally putting its collective tail between its legs, from the first snap, when feeling outmatched? The tables have turned... much quicker than most would expect. THIS is what learning to win looks like. It's not just about the score on the scoreboard either -- it's about winning the series, winning the play. When you talk about progressing, expectations and improvement, this group has shattered the ceiling in short order.

It's an offensive identity - which we have struggled with in, I don't know, forever? .... and it's an identity that is ideal for winning games in the AFC North come winter.

I think we’re going to learn even more about our team the next two weeks. Indy and Pitt will certainly have more film on us AND have the best defenses in the AFC. AND we’re without Chubb.
It’s a tough 2 weeks ahead! Hoping for the best

When Stefanski and Berry took over I was unsure about how it would workout.
Both guys now in titles they have never held as head coach and GM. Both guys experienced but unproven in their new roles.
So far it has been impressive. First they had assemble a staff. Van Pelt, Woods, Callahan are in key positions.
Baker was given a off season "to do list" which included an emphasis on footwork. Along with a mandate that turnovers have to better managed.
Then OTA's and all interactions till camp went virtual. That is a big task for a new staff trying to learn their players.
New installs under normal conditions is not easy.
No pre-season games is questionable but it does help evaluate players. Mostly not having that time reduces preparation for the season.
First game the Ravens. Not an easy first game. The Browns were never in it. Questionable calls and just looked not ready.
Since the first game the improvement has been exceptional. They have established a playing personality. They have a offensive template. And that template has worked.
On defense although weak in some areas: they are getting turnovers and have been opportunistic. They have a ways to go but are showing some improvement.
So, as we stand today I am giving major props to whole staff. Bill Callahan should receive some extra recognition.

It’s a tough 2 weeks ahead! Hoping for the best Indy Hasn't played anyone who has an offense like us ... They lost to JAX, the beat the Vikings, the Jets and the Bears none of which are setting the world on fire with their Offenses and a combined record of 3-13 The Steelers have beaten the NYG, the Broncos, and the Texans ... once again none have an offense like ours they have a combined record of 1 -11 s Now we lost to Baltimore, beat Cincinnati, Washington and Dallas ... Now we have played against 3 Pretty good offenses, take away Washington ... their combined records are 6-9-1 What does all this mean, not a lot, except I'm sick of hearing how great these defenses are when they HAVE NOT played anyone that has a great offense!!! INDY OPPONENTS: JETS 32nd Offense, BEARS 23rd, VIKES 22nd, JAX 19th PITT. OPPONENTS: NYG 31st Offense, DENVER 28th, TEXANS 26th We are statistically better than all the opponents of INDY and PITT. on offense ranking 12th overall, only JAX broke the top 20 and they beat INDY ...
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Stuff like that bugs me. All coaches do that. Hell, Freddie asked the players what plays they preferred when he took over as OC. Last year, he went from running 11 personnel almost exclusively to running 12, 13, and even 21, 22 packages. These media types try to use sarcasm to prove how smart they are, but most of them are clueless.
