Had a thought about Luck.
Wondered if he would consider a come back.
He was the best quarterback I ever saw coming from college to the NFL. He checked every box.
He is still young 31.

I believe the Colts still own his rights, so he’d either have to go back to them or we’d have to fork over picks and money
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I love Andrew Luck. It's a shame he took such a beating. He could turn a team around. Hell, if the Colts had Luck right now, they would be Super Bowl contenders.

I don't know why Andrew Luck is a topic title. Apparently he isn't cheking the "I want to play football" box. I don't know why I didn't like him, I get him confulsed, wasn't Detroit's Qb better than him. How does he compare to Detroits Qb, who I don't really like that much either, but I like better as a Qb, whats his name. I keep wanting to say Detroits Qbs' name is Haslem. it's not haskins or Stanton, or Haslem, What's his name in Detroit, I like him. What the heck is his name, arrgh They have a lot of yards as an offense and 1st downs, and it's what's his name responsible for a lot of it. edit: Google tells me it's Matthew Stafford!

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I understood Tebow is still available.
Just kidding. Everybody stepped up and talked right pretty after the beating. Wish I had less reading to do after losses. Apparently we are ready to battle.
Snark aside, let's just get after the next one and tear it in half. This one may be tougher than the first which wasn't nearly as one sided as I wanted and expected.

Is that about the Browns QB position or Luck in general?
If Andrew Luck came back he would be under contract with the Colts.
Either way he doesn’t seem like he’s coming back.

Both.
I wondered if he would consider coming back. He had a series of injuries. He has had time to heal.
He left because he just could not get to a point where he felt physically capable.
I knew he retired. But I do not know if he is under any type of clause that the Colts keep his rights.
If after this year is concluded. Berry and KS do not see Baker in the Browns future.
Could they make contact with Luck and make him a offer?
Have no idea if he would consider it.
I know he loved playing. But he had that shoulder issue and was in constant pain from numerous injuries.
Kind of thinking out loud.

I hear Joe Montana is considering a comeback. I bet he'd kill in this offense.

I thought the story was he couldn't throw any more. I remember reading the summer before he retired during TC that he was still working on throwing with a 3/4 sized nerf football.

That was the year before he retired. He then played a full season and was excellent. He retired because of an ankle injury I believe.

I don't think this is a bad topic at all. Luck is a stud. The majority of teams in the league would want him as their starter. Sometimes, guys need to step away for a bit. Gronk came back. Luck could, too.
I just don't think Indy would trade him. Phillip Rivers was a very good qb. He is a bad qb now.

If Andrew Luck were available I’d trade a lot for him. If he came back it’d be for the Colts.

Trading Baker for Mitch would be our best option... not a very good one but could be worth a try for both teams

just hypothetically, if Stefanski has seen enough to think “yeah, Baker isn’t a long term guy” ... trading for Matt Ryan or Ryan Fitzpatrick would make us better right away

I'll go back to what I said before in another thread.
If Case Keenum came in and did ANYTHING of value, I'd be much more inclined to agree with you (on the effect of getting a new QB). Case Keenum switch resulted in 0 points in over a quarter of play. That tells me that the issue with the Pitt game extended well beyond just the QB position, and extrapolating that out to the team over the whole season, I would argue that swapping out QBs (especially with what would be available right now) wouldn't really help all that much.

If Luck was healthy and wanted to get back into football and was available I would definitely give him a go. Unfortunately, his health is unknown, it doesn't seem as if he wants to get back into football and he definitely isn't readily available.
But I love the thought. Very creative thinking which I can appreciate.

Thx.
With all that is going on this year it would be easy to sit back.
However, as an athlete when you just turn 31 you know you still have some juice.
Many boxers come out from retirement. Michael Jordan retired and came back.
Athletes are driven competitors. They could never have gotten as far without that hunger for competition.
Andrew Luck went through a lot to be the number one selection. He gave the NFL all he had. However, it took a toll on his body.
Not playing or training to play allows natural healing to take place.
If his body has recovered. And he is feeling 100% healthy?
Look at what Alex Smith came back from. He damn near lost his leg and could have easily died from the infection that ravished his body. Yet he choose to come back.
It is well within reason that Luck could decide to return in 2021.
The Colts have his rights and he would most likely play there.
The one chance I guess would be a trade.

Interestingly, Alex Smith also came back from being #1 pick bust...

Perseverance often plays a huge part of in most careers.
There have been many guys thrown in the trash to come back and be successful.
Jim Plunkett comes to mind. Kurt Warner, Warren Moon, Brett Farve there are many.
There are many factors that go into a quarterbacks success beyond what they bring to the table.
The right team, coach, system, receivers, OL, RB's, quarterback success is dependent on others on top of what they do.
The position is the premium position in football. It is a very difficult position to be great at. The quarterback graveyard is filled with guys who were can't miss.
As Browns fans know franchise quarterbacks are rare.

Correct. Same can be said for Alex Smith, but only after he left San Fran.

I never said he was. I made a comment about Alex Smith going in that direction prior to him playing in KC. Alex Smith was brought up because he, by all accounts, should be retired right now due to injury but has managed to come back and play.

Otto.
Never saw him play.
But when you look at his career numbers. WOW. A true franchise quarterback.
Coming out of college Andrew Luck was the most prepared quarterback to start a NFL career.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Luck
He was a prototype for the position. Leader, size, speed, arm, smarts, accuracy, movement, running ability, toughness.
Respected by everyone.
I became sick to my stomach when Maurice Jones-Drew won the last game of the season for JAX. If they had lost we would have had the first pick. That was the year we got the great Trent Richardson.

That was also the year we got the "great" Brandon Weeden. My guy, Russell, went to the Seabags in the 3rd, much to my chagrin.

I remember the Seahawks signing Matt Flynn to be their starter after like 2 good games with GB .. and then Russ beat him out in camp
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Weeden. Ouch.
If there was pick that proved that "professionals" could be dense that was the pick.
His first press conference. I remember thinking "oh no."
Trent fooled many. Weeden could fool himself.

I thought Matt Barkley was better than Robert Griffin III during the year that Griffin and Luck entered the draft. I believe it was initially thought that Barkley would come out that year and be drafted in the top 10 or so. I wonder how his career would have went had he entered that draft.

Barkley didn't amount to anything and IMO it would not have mattered.
I believe Holmgren said "I wished I liked him better."
Some people for whatever reason can not lead a locker room.
Other players just don't buy into the guy. Sometimes when they see him in practice daily. They don't see the talent. Think Brady Quinn.
Someone else may have the arm like Weeden or Anderson.
But players see it all and just don't "believe" in the guy.
Players like Montana and Farve. They just have "it."
However, that is defined.

I saw where some posters want to trade for Mitch Trubisky. Good kid, a little bigger than Baker and a lifelong Browns fan but I don't see him being better than what we have right now.
