Lewis calls strain 'nothing serious' Thursday, October 18, 2007Mary Kay CabotPlain Dealer Reporter Running back Jamal Lewis is confident his strained right foot will be ready for the St. Louis Rams on Oct. 28.
"It's nothing serious, just something that needed a little time," Lewis said. "The bye gives me two weeks and that helps."
Lewis said he was relieved when the MRI revealed no structural damage, but never really felt there was. "I knew right from the jump that there was nothing torn or broken," he said.
In fact, he fought so hard to go back into the New England game after that first run on which he suffered the injury, that team officials may have hid his helmet.
"I think they did hide it," he said. "I couldn't find it. I really wanted to go back in, if nothing else just to back Jason Wright up. But they kept me out and it was good they did."
Lewis has a history of playing in pain, including the past two seasons with an ankle injury that required surgery each off-season.
"If it was up to me, I probably would've played [against Miami], but maybe I would've wound up missing more games," he said. "It could've gotten worse. But the doctors and trainers sat me down and said resting was the best thing to do."
He said he felt he would have had a "huge day" against New England based on his 11-yard run on the opening play, "but things happen for a reason and luckily we have Jason Wright and Jerome Harrison who can step up."
Bye-bye:
Browns players will practice today and then have off until Monday. Coach Romeo Crennel said the focus during the week was to get players healthy, give young players some reps and get back to basics on defense.
Road trip:
Derek Anderson and Joe Thomas will drive to Wisconsin to visit their college coordinator Paul Chryst, who worked with Anderson at Oregon State and Thomas at Wisconsin. "We're going to go visit their family and relax," Anderson said. "We're actually driving, so it's going to be a long drive."
Injuries:
Cornerback Kenny Wright and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson suffered ankle injuries against Miami and will be limited this week. . . . Joe Jurevicius (knee) was idle.
Kosar's influence:
Browns owner Randy Lerner said new Arena League owner Bernie Kosar is spending more time with the Browns in his role as a consultant. "I'd say he has a real presence in the building," Lerner said. Kosar said Tuesday he currently spends at least two days a week watching film with the quarterbacks and offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and talking to Lerner and Browns General Manager Phil Savage.

Hmmm,, does this have ANYTHING to do with the sudden offensive surge....

I found this the best part of the article.

Which thread? The one with the video clip of Kosar on Channel 3 earlier this week? The one where he looked toasted?

I hope Lewis hits his stride in the final 10 games of the season. There is a lot of work to be done. He shouldn't be too banged up. I hope he is ready to carry the load for the remainder of the way.

You and me too... although, even without him, the O is clicking right along.. He would make it a hell of a lot better... Or even if Harrison can make it work..
I guess when it comes right down to it, I don't really care what name is on the back of the jersey,, Wright, Harrison or Lewis,,, I want a running game..

Good for Bernie! With Kosar mentoring him it's no suprise that Derek Anderson is coming along. Bernie has to be one of the smartest players to ever play. He knows football there is no question about that. As for Quinn with Kosar and Dorsey mentoring him there is no reason why he shouldn't have the mental aspect of the game down when he finally does get his chance. This is definetely going to help him in the future. There's no way of telling how much this will help Quinn and he was already a bright Q.B. to begin with.
As for Jamal I'm glad we decided to sit him. Now with pretty much 2 whole weeks off he should be 100%.
Here's my real question though concerning injuries how close is Bax. It seems like every week he is QUESTIONABLE and then downgraded to out. That's an extreme change? Either he's close or he isn't. He could be a big boost to the secondary especially at the safety position where there have been some struggles suprisingly this year.

I wondered why every time they cut to him on the sidelines he didn't have his hat on his head. I get the impression that he's willing to put aside a little thing like pain if there's football to be played. An admirable quality, don't you think?
Resting him was a good thing. It wouldn't have made a bit of difference in New England and it gave the young'uns a bit of time with Miami.
I so desperately want to see him grind out some big games.

I kinda thought that was neat that Kosar brought that team to Cleveland. Maybe it'll turn into a farm team for us and Kosar will be able to find us a couple gems here or there. Hey, it could happen.
