I would venture to guess that the coaches know far more than we do. I've seen what can happen to QB's with talent around here. I mean let's face it, how many QB's have we drafted that have went on to be successful NFL starters elsewhere?
At some point you can ruin a QB by all of the changes and disruptions. A QB that may have went on to greatness will forever be ruined because there was no stability and by the time that stability comes, it's just too late.
Now I'm not suggesting that Baker is at that stage. I have no way of knowing that. I don't really believe anyone else on this message board can say either way with any certainty. What I will say is that I think our coaching staff will have a pretty good gauge of whether moving forward with Baker can achieve the goals they're striving for.
What is odd is the discrepancy in his performances. I mean let's look at the Cincy game. He looked unstoppable! Then in his next three games he went 12-25, 12-20 and 12-22. Watching him can be quite confusing.
This is week 13 and people can say what they will, but consistency is something that should get better the longer you play within the same system. People love to claim posts like mine mean I'm a hater. That's simply not true. I do however have a firm grasp on what I've been seeing and won't sugar coat it.
Nothing would please me more to find that Baker is the long term answer at the QB position. And for all I know he may well be. But nothing I've seen leads me to a firm conclusion as to whether he is or he isn't.
I'll be trusting the coaching staff moving forward with what ever decision they make at the QB position. Only they really know what we have in Baker.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Browns are 8 wins no losses when his qb ranking is north of 70 Browns are 7 wins 1 loss with Mayfield and Chubb Those 2 statistics are good enough for me to extend him. By the way Pitt really enjoy you posts
Baker Mayfield, quarterback, Cleveland. Not the best final 20 minutes or so for Mayfield, but four touchdown passes, including two thrown wonderfully to lead receivers in coverage, keyed the Browns’ 41-35 win over Tennessee. Mayfield’s four TDs came over 13 minutes in the first half, on passes of 2, 1, 17 and 75 yards. As importantly, Mayfield’s penchant for throwing high balls wasn’t there in the Browns’ most significant victory of the year. The first pick in the 2017 draft completed 25 of 33 throws for 334 yards with no interceptions. More games like that and the Browns will not only make the playoffs but also be a factor in them. First Cleveland quarterback to throw four first-half TDs since the great Otto Graham in 1951.
I hope Baker, Stefanski, and co. look at all his throws this game and then all his throws in the previous game.
Those high, inaccurate throws that get his receivers killed were pretty much gone. I hope this comparison... and the causes behind it, really get pounded on in their video reviews this week. Going from one extreme to the other in back-to-back games can serve as a great teaching aid.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Getting this in before the Baker uber-critics comment on Baker's 2nd half stats:
Baker was 5-8 in the second half. Of the three incompletions...one hit a stationary Landry in the facemask after passing through his hands...on 3rd down ending the drive.
One incompletion Baker hit Higgins in-stride at waist-level on a crossing pattern...Higgins fumbled around with the ball and dropped it...negating another 3rd down conversion.
I'll re-watch for the only other incompletion of the 2nd half.
Note/disclaimer: I'm NOT posting these type of comments in an effort to bag on the receivers...not at all...just adding perspective to Baker's stats. Add two more completions and about 20-30 more yards to his totals AND - perhaps more importantly - and two MORE 3rd down conversions...while you scan the draft boards looking for his replacement.

I agree with you while being really torn on this. I have a hard time criticizing Stefanski, as the dude has done an incredible job so far. But that's what we're calling for when we (legitimately) question why we starting changing up a very winning formula. I'm torn.

Another thing I'd like to bring up is how well Baker is doing without OBJ. I had said in the past you shouldn't trade away a talent like him but our WR's have played well and his injury is giving the young guys a chance to show what they can do. Maybe we should consider trading him although now isn't the best time because of the injury. Thoughts?

I think we've adapted well to his absence far better than I would've thought. I think you start listening to see what teams would be willing to give up for him. You're not actively shopping him.
If our offense takes steps back when he gets back in, then you step up the urgency to get him moved.

Agreed. We have better talent at WR than any of us figured. Add our solid TE group and 2 backs that can catch the ball and we're in good shape. Other teams aren't stupid. They will see this too and probably contact us about him. There are a good 5 or 6 teams out there that can upgrade with him.

Because he has started to pump fake. Watch every pump fake in that game.... in every one of them, as he begins the throw, a DLine is getting a hand up; those hands used to be causing him to release early and sail balls high. Now, he's pulling them down and resetting and the DLine has already committed and can't get another hand up.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
I think the "second half performance" was just fine. Coach called a conservative game plan. Not because he doesn't have faith in Baker ... because by doing so the game was essentially won.
I know we have some baker doubters/haters on the board ... but I really doubt that anyone would try to nit pick at his second half stats with or without the drops! But appreciate you highlighting those.
We had one or two posters that kept quoting Baker's low Quarterback rating as a justification for bagging on him... I wanted to highlight Baker is currently 11th in the NFL with a rating of 97.9 .... and I am pretty sure I read or heard a quote that said over the last 6 games Baker is tops (one of the top 3?) in the NFL. Doing the quick math. Last 6 games he is 104.58
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Baker is far from a finished product and while it's fun to watch him lead the team to these 9 wins, he will get better with good coaching.
On Stefanski's "to do list" this week...
...teach Baker how to execute a QB run between the center and guard, also known as a QB sneak!
The rules that apply to a RB running the ball also apply to a QB running the football. The runner, whether a RB or a QB, are required to protect the ball at all times, to insure that the ball is not fumbled. That means, two hands holding the ball tightly, to insure that the defenders do not take the ball away from our QB.
FOOTBALL BASICS...sometimes they are the most difficult to teach!
Beautiful pump fake by Baker on our first drive getting DP-Jones open for an easy TD on a slant. Of course he dropped the ball costing us a TD and # 5 for the first half by Baker.
As for the 2nd half...we didn't suck we played the odds and played a prevent O and D for that half cause of the big lead we had. Instead of putting the pedal to the metal we instead played the odds in securing a Big time win for us. I didn't like it but I understood it.

Oh and Devicedawg...I ain't as kind
I TOLD YOU SO! to all the wah wah, we should get another QB...smh
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
Maybe rishuz, you would get a less ironic reply to your post if your post actually added something to the conversation.
I did add something to the conversation. You have grown adult men and women on this board who are overly emotionally attached to players who play for their favorite sports teams. I pointed it out. That was my contribution.
Now, you going to stalk me all over the board?
