Baker Mayfield's overthrown Hail Mary is the longest pass ever recorded in an NFL game

There has been much debate over which quarterback in the NFL would win a throwing contest. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who says he can throw 75-83 yards, is an obvious answer, and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is also in the conversation.

It's a third quarterback, however, who has the longest pass ever recorded in game -- and it happened in Week 14.

According to Pro Football Focus, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield made NFL history throwing an incomplete Hail Mary pass that was over 70 yards on Monday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Mayfield slung it, a little too much in fact, hoping to get a last second touchdown at the end of the half. Here's a look at his record-setting throw, which resulted in Ravens safety Chuck Clark colliding with the goalpost because he didn't realize the ball was in the back of the end zone:

I hope he iced his arm after the game.

Mayfield threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns in Monday night's showdown, but the Browns came up just short in a thrilling divisional game.

The Browns currently sit at 9-4 and second in the AFC North, behind the 11-2 Pittsburgh Steelers.

Next up for Cleveland are the struggling New York Giants, followed by the currently winless New York Jets and a big divisional game against the Steelers to wrap up the regular season.

As it sits right now, the Browns are in position to make the playoffs, something that hasn't happened since 2002.

Yeah, that's what we call "lettin'er rip". Great form and mechanics, I bet he left at least five yards on the field too.

Next time I'd like to see him make all five Ravens slam into the stands.

I suppose that would be fun to watch, but I would rather see him leave it a little shorter where we had a chance to jump up and maybe make a winning catch.

I am not complaining to any degree...just saying.

The biggest prerequisite for a QB to be successful is to have it between the ears.

While a big arm isn't a guarantee of success, it's nice to have a QB with an arm to make any throw.

Yeah I wasn't impressed as it was too long...You got a shot if its too short but too long you got no shot at it.
He has to do better than that unless he was trying to throw it long and show off. But I was like....HUH? come on Baker that Sucked!

Kinda makes you wonder why we didn't do it again on the last play.

In all honesty, let’s say the other team scores with under 5 seconds left .. I’d implore the returner to not return it. Let it be a touchback or just fall on it if the ball is beyond the 25 ... Baker can at least get it near the end zone

Pretty certain we had Baker haters who used to claim he had a barely adequate NFL arm.

If they didn't give up the safety, then the, the, the, Vegas line.

Vs. Philadelphia, Why would they run out of bounds at the 2 after a clear touchdown run, ..that one still gets me, and I (nearly) never bet on games.

The pass was the loat. longest
how about the doat. deepest
maybe the foat. farthest

I clearly just don't like that acronym goat.

Was still iaato. incomplete - - - others.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Don't let that 70+ in the air pass fool you. It was a floater with lots of hang time, and he didn't go thru his progressions.

In all honesty, throwing a ball far high in the air is not that hard nor is it an accurate measure of arm strength.

As to magee's comment, I don't recall reading anything on here at any point that said Baker had a weak arm.

Name calling at Christmas? Nice, must make u feel warm inside.

I didn't say people said he had a weak arm. Poster(s) most definitely said his arm strength was merely or barely adequate. If you don't want to believe me that's your call. I am certain others will remember.

Actually that might ring a bell - but I don't know if that was said about Baker or who would have said it.

Rastanplan rings a bell.

Throwing the ball over 70 yards with height and someone claims that is not indicative of arm strength - brilliant.

I've always thought Baker had a plus level arm.

But a lot of guys can throw it 70 yards in the air.

Rastaplan is trolling you guys.

Why do people take this board so seriously?

Does that imply you were trolling "us guys" when you said being able to throw the ball 70 yards in the air is no indication of arm strength and not that hard. When posters make statements about players in Pure Football, that later prove to be patently untrue - we're going to go back and say "ahhh - they were just trolling" ?
