I was very optimistic after a great rookie season for Baker.
We all know what happened after.

KS is the man. His staff is excellent. And his game plan is great.
Not surprising to see our best QB play under what has to be our best coach since '99.

The one aspect of Bakers game that I have noticed lately is the utilization of the pump fake. Big Ben uses it better than anyone. Obviously the OL has to give a QB enough time, but I have seen Bake pump fake on roll outs.

I told my friend I would give Bake & KS 10 games before I would say anything about where Baker is in his development. Baker is where he needs to be and will continue to get better.

Herbert did it in less games than Baker. Which is quite impressive

Eh... well Herbert has done it with 968 snaps. Baker only had 906 his rookie season. If we're splitting hairs...

device, you've called this since day 1.

I may have disagreed at times, but your unwavering faith and confidence in Baker was sometimes the only thing that gave me hope.

Kudos, my friend. Take a bow. You deserve it.

Baker did it on a team that went 1-31 the two seasons before he was drafted...and did not get ONE snap with the 1's in pre-season OR in practice before being thrust into the primetime spotlight on a glorious Thursday night...with Hue J as his head coach. Nothing will ever beat that record.

Note: I've been quite impressed with Herbert...he's legit IMO. He will be the best in his draft class because Burrow has a very average arm. Chargers go from a hundred years with Rivers to a terrific looking rookie...makes me want to hate them.

Herbert looks very good. I think Burrows looks special too - no matter his arm strength, he reads the flow of play and is very accurate with a quick release. Both going to be good in the NFL for many years.

I wanted to post a gif of a bandwagon ... can't find a source for them that jives with the 'enter image' format we have here ... oh well.

The two previous years of Browns' football were an epic dumpster fire. No QB, I don't care who they are, could have done much with that hot mess. I find it refreshing that Mayfield survived it at all. Good teams don't draft first.

At this point Baker is better than Tua.

The Rams victory looked decent at the time, until the Jets took them out.
Outside of that, they beat the Cardinals with a 4th quarter field goal. The Cardinals are a Hail Mary away from being a .500 club.

Yea but he doesn't have any tattoos and we all know that successful QBs don't have tattoos.

Well, he does have a gap between his two front teeth so, that makes him less aerodynamic. We all know that only running QB's that are aerodynamic can be successful in the NFL.

As far as this board is concerned, Baker Mayfield plants a flag in the ground after beating Ohio State.....Mayfield haters say, He's:

- Inaccurate
- A poor teammate
- Is the reason Hue and Freddie got fired
- Focuses only on the first read
- Hangs in the pocket for 10 seconds and can't see the WRs because he....
- ....Is too short
- A locker room cancer
- Needs to stop doing commercials and focus on football
- Eats at The Cheesecake Factory too much tongue
- Probably responsible for Covid.

You guys are really missing the real reason.

If you've noticed, all of Baker's current commercials are re-runs.

He's not spending 24/7 making commercials, and now he's playing well...

We have to make sure he's never in a commercial again!

Go ahead! Make me cheer! Has been the hot, small, cabbagey(?) hand. Really liking the lad!

Against a team who really stopped our running game.

Though a lot of talking heads are still pointing to the fact that Bradberry was out in the secondary.

Meanwhile in Cleveland...Ward has been out until last week, Greedy and Delpit have been out since forever and Harrison is still out... it's cool.

Anyone have any news on Harrison returning soon, btw? Or is it a post season sort of thing?

Harrison is back practicing and is on schedule to play this week. Not sure if he will but he can.

Bradbury was out but considering Baker hit 8 different receivers it didn’t matter much IMO

When Jackson played "well" against us, there was no mention of Ward being out. The first thing people say about the Giants game is Bradberry was out. Baker is the most hated guy in sports. Every week it's a new argument where they've moved the goalposts.

That's fine. Haters are gonna hate; especially on talk shows... it gives them something to talk about, and something controversial to keep people spun up and talking about the show.

During Baker's struggles. And there were struggles. Times when I believe everyone had doubts. I stuck to the theme of patience. Not sure what will happen but we need to wait and see.

The reason was that there has always been times when Baker would make great throws. Even when he seemed lost and was turning the ball over.

It was easy to look at all the bad. Look at all the negative stats. But still I would rewatch game tape. And there would be throws that made me go damn "that was beautiful ball."

Now Baker is in full control of this offense. I can not pin point exactly when it all came together but since the bye week he has been really good.

Clearly it can be seen he is in full control of what is going on around him. He trust's his O-line. He is moving up in the pocket. Making good decisions. I never doubted his accuracy. But now I see his body is aligned. His fundamentals are solid. Mechanics clean. He is moving into advanced quarterbacking skills. Pump fakes, moving guys, with his eyes, being decisive in the right way. Running for key yards. Good pocket awareness. Eyes right. Throwing bad plays away.

Good things happen when you get good coaching. Learn the system that fits what you do best.

KS and AVP deserve credit for coaching Baker. Getting him to work the system that they envisioned.

This is all positive. And in order for this team to accomplish set goals it had to happen now.

And it has.

I was starting to ? Baker a bit too but I did always say that this is his 4th HC and the 3rd O system he's had to learn. I said we should be patient with him and see how he is at the end of the season. Well, I guess he's improved and there is room to get even better!!! thumbsup

I agree. I started to see a lot of Jay Cutler in Baker where he would go on stretches where I was like "Wow, this guy is really good" and then he would do some of the most boneheaded stuff I've ever seen like trying to rely on his arm strength to throw it through 3 defenders or running around and throwing a jump ball into the air for no apparent reason. You could see that the talent was there but it was like he couldn't get out of his own way. He seems to be much more comfortable relying on the running game, letting the game come to him, not panicking when we get behind, taking what the defense gives him, going through his reads..

And yes, I think it's safe to say he hasn't hit his ceiling yet.

bonefish...well said.

Too many of our fans are so quick to flush a player before the player gets a reasonable amount of the time to learn when new coaches come to town.

Until recently, we had an owner that was the same way and he gave the franchise no leadership from the top...thus, constant change.

Now, I hope that Haslam stays in his box and lets his football coaches do their jobs.

Baker is far from a finished product and he will have games that are stinkers, but that is when the fans should be there to support the team. Don't just sit around waiting to through the kid under the bus if he happens to have a bad game or two.

Stanfanski showed me something by sticking with Baker when could have easily gone with the veteran QB he brought from Minny. By sticking with Baker, it showed the entire team that he doesn't give up on a player even when the player is having a bad time.

That is how a coach builds a group of players into a "team".

Oh no.

Against the Giants I thought, “Baker looks like Jay Cutler when he was good.”

Jay Cutler when he was good was very good. Let’s hope Baker can sustain his play.
