I don't see the point of the conference championship game. Quite honestly every coach I hear from the SEC seems to hate the fact that they have the conference championship game. I think that maybe what should happen is that all the conferences should have to play by the same rules. Actually I'd prefer some sort of NCAA playoff myself, but I don't see that coming any time too soon. But they could play that up just like the NCAA tournament in basketball and it could become a major draw. Heck give the top 4 teams a by week and have a top 12 playoff working towards a national championship game that wouldn't be able to be argued. Have the whole thing take place over 4 weeks culminating the first full week of January. Of course I don't see that happening.

My take is that every team that has lost doesn't deserve it and, of the unbeatens, I don't think there is any question that tOSU is the best team. My contention would be that we do deserve it despite the fact that outsiders want to pick at everything about our team.

OSU is without a doubt the best team. People who protest OSU's rating have absolutely nothing to point to that prove otherwise. OSU's defense is without a doubt the best in the nation. Michigan State was averaging 35 points a game on Offense and could only muster up 3 points against OSU. On top of all that, some people on this board seem to think that LSU should be #1, but what these same people fail to realize is that the sportswriters of America don't consider LSU, or any other SEC team, worthy of the 1st, OR 2ND ranking in the country. Rather, LSU is 3rd, and Oklahoma is 4th. Judging by the lack of attention to detail that Les Miles has, LSU is going to lose again.- He didn't realize there were only 8 moving seconds on the clock when LSU snapped the ball during the game winning touchdown last Saturday. If you don't believe me, check out the 2 Mikes website at ESPN.com.

I agree. Like I said, I don't blame Ohio State for this. I blame the Big Ten as a whole. It's not Ohio State's fault that they play such a weak schedule. It is, however, the Big Ten's fault.
If you bothered to watch the Ohio State game last week, you would have seen the following graphic on the Buckeyes upcoming schedule,....
Michigan State 5-2 Penn State 5-2 Wisconsin 5-2 Illinois 5-2 Michigan 5-2
Didn't look like no cakewalk to me.

According to him a last place SEC team is better than a 5-2 OSU team.....yes i put words in his mouth Anyways...Big Ten is no pushover...it's not the best in college football this year but we have teams that can upset any other big ten team on any given week...with the exception of Northwestern and Minn everyone else seems to be okay...oh and indiana as well.... Wasn't this thread about a SIG BET for PSU game?

Actually, THIS is the guy they're talking about taking the Michigan job,...he blew that call, and got lucky. LSU is a 2 loss team waiting to happen. Thank God for SEC parity !!

And here's some more fuel for the fire,...according to the NCAA.org Stat site, only Texas A&M, USC, and Miami have tougher schedules left this season than Ohio State. None of them, well MAYBE USC -- if they can get some lucky losses by a bunch of good teams (Oklahoma, LSU, etc) -- are in the championship hunt.
If Ohio State runs the table, they're in. Good nite, y'all.

Penn State #25 Wisconsin, unranked Illinois, unranked Michigan #19
Just because they are 5-2 doesn't mean they are good teams. It just means they haven't played anyone either lol. Compare that remaining schedule to...
South Carolina #15 Florida #9 Kentucky #14 Auburn #22
That was LSU's last 3 games.
Oh yeah, are you really trying to justify Ohio States number 1 ranking on who they are going to play, anyway?

I'm not trying to justify anything, just presenting information. You are among a wide group of folks that don't really believe the Buckeyes are the best team in the nation. But this is the system that it is. Deal with it. If the SEC is lucky enough to get LSU into the Title Game, then fine. If not, then Oklahoma can crush Ohio State. It doesn't matter what any of US thinks.

Ohio State linebacker Laurinaitis to showcase skills Friday, October 26, 2007 Doug Lesmerises Plain Dealer Reporter Columbus- Two years ago at Penn State, Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis stood on the sideline in awe. "I remember being a fan and just watching a lot of great linebackers on the field," said Laurinaitis, then a freshman backup. "It was a good game to be a part of as a young linebacker, trying to watch them, how they tried to do it on a big stage." While Penn State beat the Buckeyes, 17-10, to wipe out Ohio State's last hope of a national title, something else was decided as well. With a 14-tackle night that was a showcase of linebacking at its best, Paul Posluszny won the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation's best linebacker, with his performance on national television. Even Penn State coach Joe Paterno admitted Posluszny couldn't have played any better. OSU's A.J. Hawk, who led the Buckeyes with nine tackles and three tackles for loss, had a typical opponent-crunching night. But Posluszny was scary. When the Butkus was handed out two months later, with Posluszny and Hawk two of the three finalists, it was obvious that the victory and the effort that night had a lot to do with the voting. Saturday night, Laurinaitis and Penn State middle linebacker Dan Connor will have a lot of voters watching again. And the title of best linebacker in the Big Ten, and maybe the country, will be on the line (though Illinois' J Leman can make his claim as well). It's another glamour game for the defensive grunts. "You can say that people would think it would be unusual because we're two defensive guys," Laurinaitis said. "You usually see that with quarterbacks and receivers. There was a lot of talk about Posluszny and A.J. Hawk, so it's exciting." Connor switched from his outside linebacker spot the previous two years and is playing the middle now, the same outside-inside move both Laurinaitis and Posluszny made last year. In the defensive schemes of both teams, Connor and Laurinaitis are expected to cover and blitz and hit anything that moves. "I think something we do the same is we're attacking and we're athletes," Laurinaitis said, "and people sometimes think of Big Ten linebackers as big meatballs who want to stuff the run all the time. It shows you can go sideline to sideline if you need to." They aren't the only linebackers to watch. Ohio State's Marcus Freeman is playing the best ball of his career, and Penn State's Sean Lee has more tackles than any of them, ranking fourth in the Big Ten with 9.9 a game. "This Saturday, you will probably see four or five of the best linebackers in the country on the field . . . at one time or another," Paterno said. Come Butkus Award time in December, only one can be acknowledged as the best. To reach this Plain Dealer reporter: dlesmerises@plaind.com, 216-999-4479 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm pumped for this game.....to shut the naysayers up! (hope it happens)

Beating Penn State would be a decent win. But, I wouldn't say it will "shut the naysayers up". It would be a decent win, but Penn State still isn't very good.

I know what all of the PAST stats say about Happy Valley and OSU vs. PSU, the White Out, the # 1 curse, etc. But this game is about today -- what are TODAY's kids going to do,...??
Don't put much credence in the past, other than learning lessons.
The shame of a loss would be the Buckeye NT hopes will be gone,...Penn State has nothing to play for with 2 losses already.
It's gonna be a scary game.

Well you can't ignore the past completely...there is a reason OSU is 1-4 the last 5 years out there....and that is the stadium and the crowd....which is STILL the same....so yah it's still just as tough...question is can THIS team overcome it...

Like I said, question of the day TODAY,... And probably the same reason Penn State is 1-4 (or worse ?) their last five times in Columbus,....

I am sure this game will just "confirm"your suspicions about Big 10.
I know that Mississippi State confirmed to me that Ky was overrated at 14 too.
