Nobody continued this for several hours.

People are still dying 1 per 30 seconds.
There are still 9 million open cases in the US.
The number of new positives per day is down to 150K from 250,000 of the ongoing, of a week or two ago.
(World-O-Meters) site numbers.

The Vaccines are still going well, hopefully it really changes this trajectory quickly for the better.

( I think at some point people will look back, and say,
enough isn't being made, to bring awareness
of the rate at which people are dying in December and this January which is peaking, hopefully, another wave,

3000-4000 plus per day, in the US.

Not that there's anything anyone can do about it, but we should be aware of it.

The vaccine, sorry, isn't going to dent that until the new cases reduce and the open cases falls below 9 million, that's a case that's not considered, healed or a death,
if 3% then the deaths will still keep mounting.

Every 30 seconds, some weeks every 22 seconds, It is not lost on me, it wasn't yesterday, or this morning, or two days ago, going through a day, realizing

in the time it takes to listen to that 4:54 (Crazy on you, by Heart) I downloaded, 10 Americans died of covid, and it's ongoing.

It's not lost on me there are 119 people in the last hour of their life, and a 119 families, and every hour, and all week,
And America is a big place, but they are somewhere in America, and some of those are near here.

And they are real people, so
1. perservere and ignore it
2. acknowledge it
3. Because it's all so perilous just live like the wind

or 4. put your head in the sand and pretend like nothing,

ehh go back and forth.

Surely not. The whole thing was the next hoax. It disappeared in the warm weather no? Well if it didn't it disappeared after the election right? The whole thing was a conspiracy to remove Trump ... c'mon get with the program. The rest of the world's on board too.

LA COVID-19 Vaccinations Delayed By Protesters

For nearly an hour Saturday, about 50 vaccination opponents and right-wing supporters of former President Donald Trump delayed COVID-19 vaccinations when they protested at the entrance to Dodger Stadium, the site of a mass vaccination campaign.

Holding signs that said things such as "COVID=Scam," "Don't be a lab rat" and "Tell Bill Gates to go vaccinate himself," the protesters caused the Los Angeles Fire Department to close the stadium entrance as a precaution. People in hundreds of cars, waiting in line for hours, had to wait even longer.

The site was shut down around 2 p.m. Saturday as several Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived at the scene. No arrests were made, and by 3 p.m., the site was reopened. "We will not be deterred or threatened," California Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Twitter.

Everyone who had been scheduled to receive a vaccine still got their dose, officials said. But the episode highlights the continuing distrust of vaccines by a substantial portion of the public and the unwillingness of some Americans to accept the reality of the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed nearly 440,000 Americans.

"Why are we letting pregnant women become lab rats in real time?" a man in a top hat shouted into a megaphone. Health officials say the vaccine is safe for pregnant women.

Nearby, protesters held signs like "Take off your mask & smell the bulls***" and "CNN is lying to you." The man in the top hat added: "Hydroxychloroquine works!"

It's hard to tell from an isolated protest just how widespread the belief in some of these conspiracy theories is. But according to a December NPR/Ipsos poll, the number may be significant. For instance, the poll showed that about 40% of the American public believes the coronavirus was created in a lab in China and that 17% believe the false QAnon conspiracy theory that politics and the media are controlled by "a group of Satan-worshipping elites who run a child sex ring." (And 37% said they don't know whether that one is true or not.)

Many of the Dodger Stadium protesters were also far-right supporters of Trump, but they took pains to hide that connection. "Please refrain from wearing Trump/MAGA attire as we want our statement to resonate with the sheeple," read a social media post from a protest organizer before the event, the Los Angeles Times reported.

More than 3.3 million Californians have been infected with the coronavirus, and more than 40,000 there have died — including another 464 on Saturday.

And Los Angeles health officials have warned that variants of the coronavirus are spreading there. The county's Department of Public Health confirmed it had found a second case of the more contagious variant, B.1.1.7, which first emerged in the United Kingdom. Other variants are "already spreading in the county," the department said.

Los Angeles County has also recorded four additional cases of MIS-C, which stands for "multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children." That's a complication of COVID-19 that causes serious side effects in the young, including persistent fever and inflamed body parts.

Congratulate the CBS T.V show, "the talk" for being the
1st show, I could find, to separate their hosts / contestants an actual 6 feet or more.

Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, NFL's broadcast with Cower and Howie and Terry and the like, are among shows which only use spacing, less than an actual 6 feet of distance.

Hey man, a heads up. I was born and raised up north, but did and do have a lot of family in the south, and have lived in the south the largest potion of my life...only women say bless your heart.

I do agree, the comment to which you replied didn't make much sense.

Ummmm, please don't take this as an argument for those protests in LA, but health officials have NOT said this is safe for pregnant women. The data, as it is, is insufficient to make such a claim. This was what I read as of a little under a month ago and confirmed by a couple doctors here that my wife and I were talking to at the time. I expect the vaccine is, in fact, safe but the data is not there to support an official statement/indication.

I would suggest you look at everything they were saying rather than focus on only one thing they were saying. I mean eve a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. wink

That and the fact they were trying to interfere in people getting the vaccination.

Yeah, like I said... I'm not agreeing with anything else and just focusing on that. It stuck out like a sore thumb (when I was reading).

According to Worldometer, the rate of new cases (7 day average) has fallen below 150,000 for the first time since November 15.

The seven day average peak reached 254,000 on Jan. 11.

There is about a 3 week delay response between infection and deaths, so hopefully deaths will start trending down.

But in the news, all we hear is about the new strain, and the other new strain, and how a third new strain which is deadlier........and may not respond to the vaccine, and hospitals over flowing, and bad bad bad bad news, constantly.

But then you hear of states that were locked down opening back up, slowly of course.

Nothing makes sense.

The data says that there are less new cases now, than 3 weeks ago. That is the first positive sign in months.... I will take it as a good sign.

I care about all the possibilities, but it has not manifested itself into cases, well maybe some cases in CA, but the data is the best indicator.

I don't think I've seen too many of those stories in the last couple weeks. Now the attention is shifted to complaining about the vaccine rollout.

OH's new case case is finally starting to go hard in the right direction. CA has also either burned itself out has started to pull itself back from the brink (I live in Cinci and used to live in southern California, so these are the 2 states that I pay attention to).

Maybe if Trump was still president we wouldn't be getting updates on the new strains. That would be so much better.

I just saw that, I don't know where to look at what you saw, but I saw the 5 most recent days which you can look up at numbers,
Since January 30th was the last day with 140,000+ new cases on that day, Which is good news.
Maybe, it's the vaccine having an effect,

What it would mean is, the Open cases, 9.8 million, in the USA, would start to go down if there are fewer new cases by significant numbers,
and fewer open cases would lead to fewer deaths per day.

So, if Super Bowl parties don't cause another spike, and if vaccine rollout actually causes less spread, then the rates would fall.

Seriously, watching that 250,000 number and 230,000 number days in January, means,
to see 4 straight days under 140,000 new cases, as encouraging news, encouraging that in 30-40 days there may be a noticeable turning point in the whole deadliness.

You obviously haven't listened to what Fauci has said since Trump left office. And it has been explained why nothing seems to make sense.

It's because there is no national standard. You have states that are all making things up as they go. Take Florida for example. Their governor has made it to where the cities, no matter how big the spike can not fine people who do not wear a mask.

So don't expect things to make sense. It hasn't from the beginning and it won't. When politics rules how you deal with a virus more than the scientific evidence itself, things are going to be a mess.

The scientific community gives you the information and as of now what you do with that information is more a personal choice than anything written in stone. That's how we've gotten to where we are now.

Florida grocery store bucks mask mandate; owner says Covid death toll is 'hogwash'

The owner of Oakes Farms Seed to Table Market in Naples said he knows masks do not work.

A video that was taken at a South Florida grocery store shows nearly every customer and employee without a mask.

The footage was filmed this week at Oakes Farms Seed to Table Market in Naples, about 42 miles south of Fort Myers. In it, not a mask is in sight and social distancing is not being followed.

As of Thursday morning, the video on NBC News correspondent Sam Brock's Twitter page has generated 7,600 comments, nearly 16,000 retweets and more than 20,000 likes. Reactions run the gamut, with some defending the customers and employees and others expressing outrage.

The store's owner, Alfie Oakes, could not be reached for comment on Thursday. He told NBC's "TODAY" show he knows masks do not work and doesn't believe the coronavirus has killed hundreds of thousands of people in the United States.

"That's total hogwash," Oakes said, later adding, "Why don't we shut the world down because of the heart attacks? Why don't we lock down cities because of heart attacks?"

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has repeatedly stated that masks and social distancing can help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

According to NBC News' latest data, the total number of deaths in the country climbed to more than 452,000, with Florida having the fourth-highest number of fatalities.

Collier County, where Naples is located, has seen more than 27,000 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic and 413 deaths, according to the state's Department of Health website.

Even though the county has a mask mandate in place, Oakes' store has a sign out front that states customers do not have to wear one if they have a medical condition.

"Those in our lovely government have ordered all persons entering indoor facilities to wear a mask. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, you are exempt from this order. Due to HIPAA and the 4th Amendment we cannot legally ask you about your medical condition," it reads.

"Therefore, if we see you without a mask, we will assume you have a medical condition and we will welcome you inside to support our business."

County Commissioner Andy Solis said his biggest fear is that Covid-19 cases will increase and the hospitals will become overwhelmed.

"It's very disappointing and very concerning," he said.

I really don't get the hogwash justification.

1. Data shows it's not.

2. I can understand people being up in arms about having to do something like wearing a hazmat suit and rolling around in bleach before going out, but all we're talking about here is masks. I just know I would feel horrible if I found out I had it, and then went out and spread the virus to someone else who was high risk, and then they were hospitalized, or worse...

I believe I understand it and it's really sad. Covid doesn't care who you voted for. It doesn't care what religion you are.

We just live in a society where conspiracy theories, political beliefs, the refusal to believe science and religion are excuses used to ignore common sense.

There's just enough of these people to make it difficult to join together to even help save the life of all Americans no matter their beliefs.

If Todays number holds up. less than 60,000 new cases. (52,000)
January 30th and February 4th could end up being Major Turning Points in the fight against the spread of death, and contagiousness of this virus, in the USA.
I can only guess there is a correlation to the vaccinations.

People like Alfie should be forced to stand in the middle of a crowd full of the 447,000 Plus family members and friends of those who have died from covid. They can then explain to the crowd that covid is all bullcrap and that nobody dies from it. Maybe he could even help explain why heart attacks are so contagious while he is at it.

man some of those new strains are wrecking countries in europe and africa. i'm worried some of the vaccines dropping aren't gonna protect against those.

Expect booster shots to be needed as the virus mutates. Expect to be wearing masks for the foreseeable future. This is going to be a long road.

The new strains are the things that are really worrying me. Fauci, during one of his briefings was talking about the need for a vaccine to suppress the current versions of Covid and prevent them from mutating. However, if there are people who don't vaccinate, and enable even just a small spread, it still enables mutations.

Like you mention, mutations are the X factor because they could mutate to a degree where current vaccinations are not effective. That's a scary premise.

Defense Department sending 1,000 troops to assist with vaccinations

The Pentagon is still weighing a broader request from FEMA for up to 10,000 troops, a U.S. military officer said.

WASHINGTON — Biden administration officials said they will deploy 1,000 active duty troops to assist with Covid-19 vaccinations later this month and use the Defense Production Act to increase supplies of vaccine, tests and protective equipment.

The military personnel will begin arriving in California within the next 10 days and assist at state vaccination sites there, said Covid-19 coordinator Jeffrey Zients. The Pentagon is still weighing a broader request from FEMA for up to 10,000 troops, a U.S. military officer said.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made the decision, which will involve units from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps and include nurses and medical staff who will be administering the vaccinations, the officer said.

“The military’s critical role in supporting sites will help vaccinate thousands of people per day, and ensure that every American who wants a vaccine will receive one,” said Zients.

The increased involvement of the Defense Department is a shift in strategy from the Trump administration, which primarily left it to the states to figure out how to get shots in the arms of their residents.

Earlier this week, the Biden administration announced it would begin opening the two federally run and funded vaccination sites in California.

The Biden administration also announced it will be using the Defense Production Act to get Pfizer more equipment and supplies to increase production of its vaccine, make millions of at home Covid tests available by the end of the summer, and produce 1 billion surgical gloves a month in the U.S. by the end of the year.

That's cool and all, but only if manpower is the actual limiting reagent. I thought that vaccine inventory was what is holding everything up. More people to put shots in arms isn't going to do anything if there isn't any vaccine available to administer.

Just a couple of points here. First, the article actually addresses that.

Quote:
The Biden administration also announced it will be using the Defense Production Act to get Pfizer more equipment and supplies to increase production of its vaccine.

Johnson and Johnson just asked for emergency approval for their vaccine and I expect AstraZeneca won't be far behind.

You are certainly correct that having the people to administer vaccines if they are not available isn't the answer in and of itself.

At the same time, with increased production from Pfizer and millions of doses soon to come from Johnson and Johnson, I think it would be foolish not to be prepared to administer the massive increase in vaccines that will soon become available.

I just haven't seen what the problem is (or even, if there is a 'problem' beyond what you would expect in ramping up production of a completely new type of vaccine). Maybe it's just the writing of the article, but it seems like there are all of these solutions being thrown around when the problem just doesn't seem to be well understood.

This is basically a re-run of the story they did back in April or May of last year, not really so much a new story. The guy caught a lot of heat for it, and lost the County school contract to supply food.

But on the other side, I know for a fact that he sent a semi trailer of food every week to our church for us to distribute.

So while his views may not align with everyone, he isn't a bad guy.

I'm not sure what sending food to a church has to do with making his store a super spreader location. Nor how that equates to "his views may not align with everyone". He is ignoring the facts and endangering the life of his customers. His customers too are spreading Covid throughout his community.

Playing some bait and switch game to try to change the subject changes nothing.

I mean if a a criminal is an otherwise good guy it doesn't change what he's guilty of. At least it didn't use to.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Lol, "SILENCE THE RIGHT!"

The GOPQ crack me up whining about their stories not being heard, their truth being mocked, and people completely discounting whatever they offer to the conversation like they're dodging the crazy uncle in public...

I personally don't feel that anyone is looking to silence the right but normal thinking people have just had about all the crazy we can take over the last 5 years and have quit giving a damn what they think.
