So we know who the highest bidder was. Zero about winning..Probably 20 other teams he could have taken less to go and win that would have a better chance than AZ to get to the superbowl in 2 years I was thinking about that too, but a few things: 1) His old teammate/good friend is there. 2) It's Arizona, and who doesn't want to retire to Arizona vs Buffalo, KC, Green Bay, Cleveland? Sometimes I think the NFL should give a 10% cap bonus to cold weather cities to sign FAs. 3) Maybe he's buying into the ARI hype, a lot of people pegged them as contenders last year and Kyler entering year 3.

The Browns made the right choice imo...that was not the kind of money the Browns should be spending on a 31 yr old DE with a lot of miles on his body.

There are a few of those out there possibly if they aren't tagged... Yannick Ngakoue, 25 yrs Romeo Okwara, 25 yrs Takkarist McKinley, 25 yrs Carl Lawson, 26 yrs Leonard Williams, 26 yrs And probably more that might be due for big $$. Also, some guys in the 27, 28 range too. Perhaps guys playing OLB in certain schemes that can put their hands in the dirt as well.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

I like JJ and would have loved to root for him as a Brown.
But free agency is a players choice so I never counted on him.
There are good options that will do.
When I watch the tape on Carl Lawson. I really like the guy. The Bengals have some decisions. But in the end I think they franchise him.
Berry will have to look around.

I wonder if we might look at Bud Dupree. I don't think the Steelers will be able to afford him back.
He was my target in the draft the year he came out, and while it took him awhile he was having a great year last season before he got hurt. It sounds like he should be ready for the beginning of next season. Again, like with a lot of the names going around, the question is cost.

I like Dupree a lot. I know some will say he's a 3-4 OLB, but all I know is he mistreats OTs and gets after the QB really well. He's good against the run too.

He certainly has the size to play with a hand in the dirt. Something I would worry about with a Von Miller.

Look... I understand I have next to no actual info on the topic, and this guy apparently has something... I'm not screaming fake news or anything like that, but I have a hard time believing our FO was offering more for an older, oft-injured DE. I would've loved having JJ, but us offering him more does not line up with our FO's usual MO.

JJ Watt had multiple good contract offers, including from the Browns, and chose a different team because that’s where he wanted play. That’s it. There are no ulterior motives.

I'm waffling on this. 1. if Chris Simms is onboard, that makes me worry, lol 2. LaVonta is older. We're not getting the 26, 27, or 28 year old version of him. We're getting the version that is probably in his last couple of years in the league that will be looking to cash in on his final contract. It *could* work out, but it's a short-term solution and we need more than that... be it we sign someone else and draft, or just draft high. And, actually, Drafting someone high is probably the only sensible way to bolster that.

The money we would have been paying a broken down player can now be added to the pool of money we planned to use to try to attract other players. Not signing that guy is great for the team.

Trey Hendrickson scares me: He’s a tricky player to project. Hendrickson finished second league-wide with 13.5 sacks and tied for eighth with 25 quarterback hits. But according to Brandon Thorn’s True Sack Rate, just three of Hendrickson’s sacks were high quality. In other words, he benefited from coverage sacks and clean-up sacks where teammates produced the initial pressure. Hendrickson had never played more than 38 percent of the defensive snaps in a season prior to 2020, when he was on the field 53 percent of the time. Teams will have to weigh his 2020 production against previous years to determine whether Hendrickson is a one-year wonder or an ascending player. He had 6.5 sacks and 18 QB hits during his first three seasons.

I'd sign Lavonte David in a heartbeat, he's one of the best true LBers in football, he's good against the run and one of the best in coverage. He's still playing at a high level and he has only missed 7 games in 9 years mostly early in his career. Sign him to a 3 year deal and draft a guy in the mid rounds to develop.
