This certainly deserves it’s own thread.

Show me someone who’s shocked or surprised and I’ll show you a bloody fool.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/florida-keys/article249666463.html

As Florida’s eldest residents struggled to sign up to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, nearly all those aged 65 years and older in a wealthy gated enclave in the Florida Keys had been vaccinated by mid-January, according to an emailed newsletter obtained by the Miami Herald.

The management of Ocean Reef Club, located in north Key Largo, also acknowledged in the Jan. 22 message to residents that the rest of the state was grappling to get its hands on the vaccine.

“Over the course of the last two weeks, the Medical Center has vaccinated over 1,200 homeowners who qualify under the State of Florida’s Governor’s current Order for those individuals who are 65 years of age or older,’’ the message reads.

“We are fortunate to have received enough vaccines to ensure both the first and second for those vaccinated. At this time, however, the majority of the State has not received an allocation of first doses of vaccines for this week and beyond, and the timing of any subsequent deliveries remains unclear.”

Neither Ocean Reef’s media relations representative nor officials from its medical center immediately returned phone and emailed messages to answer questions about how it received so many vaccines before much of the rest of the state.

Doesn't surprise me, or shock me. Does it bother me? Maybe a little.

The article seems incomplete. It sounds like the folks there were in the age bracket.

I do know retirement homes got early vaccinations. My mother-in-law lives in one in the state. Her retirement home is gated. There is always a person at the gate and someone in the front lobby 24/7. You have to be 65 to buy and live in the place.

She lives in the condo section of the building. It's a 10 story building, looks like a large hotel or apartment building. The typical condo runs 350K for 2 bedrooms, then the $3500 per month fee. It also has an assisted living section, then a Alzheimer's floor. Possibly they all got the shots because of the intensive floors in the building. She is 94 so she meets any requirement. Also, since most people are over the age, those that may not probably qualified since they are living in close contact.

I add the personal info because possibly this place in Key Largo is similar? My mother-in-laws place is very nice. It's like living in a resort hotel, but is not even close to the nicest that can be had if you can afford the price. All retirement "homes" were on the first to receive list. Retirement homes aren't all like a county nursing home with a curtain between two beds. Some are gated communities with condos that people buy and some even have individual homes people build, but they offer all the health services any other nursing home provides. It's just a nicer way to finish out the days.

this is how i feel... they are in the 1a category being over 65... most likely the community had someone who was organizing getting the residents signed up... that's the hardest part about this process is signing up to get vaccinated...

if this would have been a group of 30 or 40 y/o's I'd be pissed....

Typical. Shrug it off. Where did they get the doses? And hijacking vaccine doses from first responders and before long term care facilities are all taken care is just wrong and should be prosecuted. Typical turn the other way, nothing to see here. That attitude doesn’t shock or surprise me either. And these republican politicians that got early vaccines are now the ones calling to open everything up and remove the mask mandates. Typical deplorable republican leadership.

I know that is what happened with my MIL. She didn't schedule her own appointment. All of that was done for her. She was told what time to report to the in house clinic to receive her dose. All she had to do was fill out the form that was placed in her mail slot several days earlier.

I don't know if any favors were done or not, though I am sure the communists will paint it as such. Florida has many retirement communities that would qualify to be on the first distribution list. The fact that many of those are populated by people of means doesn't matter.

Dude they are literally covering up where they acquired the doses. Enough. This was an unlawful distribution done under the table. And damn, I just heard today that there are apes in zoo’s that are going to get the vaccine to save them so they can open. This before teachers? But whatever I’m sure you feel it’s all legit anyways.

LOL...got to save the apes. They are endangered.

Please....look, I am not here to argue. I am not sticking up for the Florida governor.

You posted a article that seemed very incomplete, so I shared a first hand experience sharing how it worked in my family.

My mother-in-law is well off, but she isn't super wealthy or hasn't donated $100,000 to some political campaign. She lives in a place that allowed her to get her shot in the same time frame as the "enclave" being reported.

It's clearly a communist influenced article highlighting people who can live in a "enclave" and those who are victims because they don't.

Meanwhile in Florida my dad with zero immune system, Leukemia, and 65+ hasn't been able to get an appointment until this Saturday. He goes to Moffitt, the best cancer hospital in the state and #11 in the nation and they haven't been able to get the help their patients need. They've been trying to help get their patients the vaccination but have been unsuccessful. I finally got him an appointment at Walmart. Seriously, a top cancer hospital can't get their vulnerable patients the vaccine and it took months to finally get a shot at a Walmart, assuming they don't run out tomorrow. But don't worry, some rich people got theirs early.

Desantis is by far the worst governor around. I work with some pretty far right people and even they hate him now. His press conferences are pretty bad. What finally pushed them over the edge is how he handled unemployment. He blamed all of the problems on the prior who applied and claimed all eligible people have been paid. A reporter brought up the fact that wasn't the truth and the governor grilled him to give him names. He put up a Google poll and gathered thousands of names overnight and handed it over to Desantis. His response, did you personally vet each of these people to ensure they are eligible?

He always refuses to accept any responsibility. The shocking part here is how much I'm not shocked by this report at all, I've come to expect it.

This time, I told myself, I’m turning my outrage into action.

If Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis can dispense the first COVID-19 vaccines to his wealthy donors at the Ocean Reef Club in the Keys, if he can continue to use the deadly virus as a political fund-raising tool at whim, I’m getting the shot in the arm I deserve under new eligibility guidelines.

No more waiting, thanks to the under 65 “extreme vulnerability” category — and the new FEMA site opened by President Joe Biden in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Armed with a two-page letter from my doctor outlining a qualifying condition that made me more vulnerable to COVID-19 complications, I drove to the newly opened walk-up FEMA vaccination site at the Miami Dade College North campus.

It’s a massive life-saving effort staffed by competent young U.S. Army soldiers, civilians and local police.

“Not necessary” and “a big mistake,” DeSantis called the FEMA sites after Biden announced he was opening them in major cities in Florida and other hard-hit states.

“FEMA camps” the governor mocked them.

Thank you, Mr. President, I kept thinking as I navigated my way to the coveted vaccine.

Thank you for the large-scale supply now available to Black and brown communities, and especially, to the people of Hialeah who didn’t vote for you. Thank you for not holding a partisan grudge like your predecessor and his Florida mini-me.

But I digress.

This is a story about a positive milestone in a year of losses and outrages like vaccines the virus epicenter of Miami deserved instead going to donors in a place with one of the lowest rates of COVID in the state.

You need to seek professional help.

It's an article showing how an entire politically connected community somehow managed to get the vaccine while no other entire communities managed to accomplish that. They weren't in nursing homes.

I'm not going to venture a guess as to how this happened but it certainly doesn't look good. Only in Trumplandia would someone such as yourself call an investigation into accountability now be called communism.

I don't know if this would have anything to do with it, but they have been distributing vaccine doses proportionate to the infection rate. North Key Largo is very close to Miami, and that is our hardest hit area with 4-5x the infections of our other large areas like Orlando and Tampa.

But to pay for it by giving campaign donations? Nope, I think what this was was Vaccine for Pay...in the form of campaign donations.

As long as people label others fascist and have anti-fascist movements, I'll stick with communist. You can call it whatever you want.

Later man...I promised myself to not bog down in this place. It's over run and not worth the conversation.

Why do you consider having a movement against fascism is a bad thing? I mean it seems to me you wish to either ignore what the FBI and Homeland Security has been telling all of us. In February of 2020 the Trump appointed FBI director Wray stated plainly what that meant.

Quote:
FBI Director Christopher Wray told the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that the threat of far-right domestic violent extremism has risen to a "national threat priority" for 2020, posing a "steady threat of violence and economic harm" to the US while its underlying drivers — including "perceptions of government or law enforcement overreach, socio-political conditions, racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and reactions to legislative actions" — persist.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world...p-a9323786.html

I can understand how people who support such ideology would be offended by trying to stop the rise of fascism in America or disapprove of people trying to oppose it. I just didn't think you would be one of them.

Americans in the 1940's and 1950's would most certainly disagree with you. The old saying is true. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

That's all anyone and everyone has been asking for all along. Maybe you should check the average sentence imposed for the same crime according to race in order to get a clue.

It proves to everyone on the board just how inconsistent your "opinion" is - that in one post you try to justify the rich paying for vaccines - instead of them being available equally to all (that were eligible). Clearly a non equal, corrupt manipulation of where treatment was supplied.

And two posts later you chime in with 'Justice must be applied equally' .... next you'll spout some horse patooti about 84 million voters need to be cancelled because ... well because you just didn't like the way they voted.

My 95 year old grandmother still hasn't gotten it yet either, even with her primary care doctor helping. I also got her an appointment tomorrow at Walmart finally. Her sister died from it last month after not getting the shot.

I should mention this entire time their doctors have been helping, my dad has been trying, and so have I. It took that long for two people who should have instantly qualified.

I don't mind how people vote or voted.

Just the lie of falsifying ballots, counts, and even changing votes;
Everyone should fight for fair, proper, counting of the actual votes.

The Left, fought in 2019-2020, in courts, and continues to fight, for weird counts, weird rules, ends to identifiers, and things like instant registration,
Which produces, unfair, improper, wrong counting, of not actual votes.

Only very rarely has any of that been found to have happened. Certainly not to the degree to change the outcome of any election results.

You sound like Trump when he tried to claim that thousands of dead people voted in Georgia. After Republican election officials in Georgia investigated the issue, it was found that on only two occasions had that actually happened.

Once again, no it has not. As of this moment there are over 100 proposals that Republicans have introduced to restrict voting since the 2020 election. They aren't Democrats.

A Republican lawyer actually said this to the SCOTUS....

Quote:
So Justice Amy Coney Barrett had a simple question for the lawyer defending the GOP-backed laws: “What’s the interest of the Arizona RNC here in keeping, say, the out-of-precinct ballot disqualification rules on the books?”

“Because it puts us at a competitive disadvantage relative to Democrats,” the lawyer, Michael Carvin, responded. “Politics is a zero-sum game.”

You lie because you know this to be not true - - or you are ignorant and repeating lies that have been proven false and you repeat them anyway without seeking truth and knowledge. Either way it makes you ignorant.

It fell on January 6th. We now know many in the Republican party will try to overthrow the government to stay in power. We know that democracy is second to what they want and they really don't care about holding elections or their results.

Who Changed votes? Proof Please!

The left fought like hell to stop the suppression of votes.. Something that the Right has been doing for years with the Gerrymandering they are so good at.
