We know Lavonte David is good. Anyone we draft is a huge question mark. We also know that Lavonte is old and isn't going to be around in two, max three, years. He's on the backside of his peak and is heading toward Willie McGinest territory. He'll be good for us for a little while, but then the bottom is going to fall out. It's just the age factor.... nobody outruns time. So, if we get him, we MUST double down at the position and get someone to groom behind him. He'd be nothing but a placeholder.
Browns is the Browns

He went with the money, not with his best chance to win a superbowl from what I am hearing. When they say it was not about the money...they are simply lying like hell.
Obviously the Browns front office was not interested enough to pay Watt 31 mill with 23 mill guarenteed...
The Browns made the right choice imo...that was not the kind of money the Browns should be spending on a 31 yr old DE with a lot of miles on his body. Browns didn’t offer J.J. Watt more than the Cardinals despite a report to the contrary, source says Updated 11:27 AM; Today 11:13 AM https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2021/03...ource-says.html

Our window is the next two to three years. I’d rather sign a veteran to play and know what you are getting instead a rookie.
In the end, I don’t see this front office willing to pay what it’ll take to sign David.

I had no desire for an old and often injured J.J. Watt.

I tend to subscribe to the long-standing belief system that:
x > Mary Kay, when it comes to information. Except when Grossi is involved.
However, last year (or was it the year before that) she was first to report news and had all the little tidbits.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Last year was the exception to the rule. We'll see if it becomes a new trend.

Last year was the exception to the rule. We'll see if it becomes a new trend. It’s all about who people have connections with within the team. Last year she nailed a lot of stuff. Everyone in the front office and coaching staff is coming back besides one quality control coach. I’m guessing she has maintained those connections.

I sincerely hope so. I'm not actually rooting against her or anything... I just think that she has to overcome a LOT of bad past reporting work for me to change my stance on her.

Seems like a strange way to structure a deal if this is supposed to be the tight cap year.
$20M for this season. Seems a bit steep.

$23 million is just the total guaranteed. It includes monies that will be in 2022. 12 mil signing 2.5 mil base in 2021 8.5 mil guaranteed at signing in 2022 base salary
12 million signing bonus, 2.5 million base for 2021: 14.5 million in pocket 8.5 million cap hit 2021.
In 2022: the other 6 mil for the signing bonus; 2.25 roster bonus, 11.25 base (that's the 13.5 mil total base in 2022). 19.5 mil 2022 cap hit (apparently 8.5 million of the 11.25 is already guaranteed, so he would have a dead cap of at least 14.5 mil if they tried to release him next season, so...no)
The 2022 cap hit can increase another 2 or 3 million (depending on the years the escalators are attached to).
I guess they are banking o making it worthwhile this year with the big hit next year.

Essentially, he is all but guaranteed to be a 20-sh million dollar cap hit in 2022 at the age of 33.
I don't care how "close" the other offers were, no one his age is going to turn down guarantees like that. My gosh.

I don't know what you mean, BP. If he hits the 10 sack "unlikely to be earned" escalator this year it accelerates to next year while SIMULTANEOUSLY making the 2022 escalator "likely to be earned." A potential 22.5 million dollar cap hit awaits in 2022 (not sure what the 3rd escalator is). Go get 'em, Watt.

They only had $25.9 million in cap space.... I have to believe they just burned all of it and then some. They may actually have to release some guys to make this fit.

Surprised to see Mahomes was not on that list.....he only has a $10M in signing bonuses. The rest is categorized in roster bonuses. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/patrick-mahomes-21751/Looking at a few QBs on the list, this seems very abnormal. The Chiefs could cut him in 2023 with only a $4M dead cap hit. Interesting.

34 million in salary and roster bonus plus possible escalators just in the last year (2024) plus what...either 11 or 13.2 million on the prorated bonus. 45-47.2 million cap hit that year so...I guess if the salary cap hits about 280-295 million by then it would be about right. Looks more likely they will be taking a hit of 18-19% or so of the cap in the final year of his contract in exchange for avoiding the hits in 2021 and 2022.

Baker is going to command at least 37.5 mil/year himself if it works out. Just the name of the game. Think he would go for a 8-year, 300 million dollar deal?

So, hamper any future, just so you can have a so called 'franchise' qb, a qb that hasn't done much to make his team better?
I don't know of many, if any, teams that have broken the bank for a qb that actually paid off. Perhaps there are some?
Locking that much money into a slightly above average qb..............just seems foolish to me.

Lamarcus Joyner is being released from the Raiders. Supposedly he's a safety that they tried to turn into a slot corner.
Anyone have any opinions on him?
