https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2021/03/browns-re-signing-lb-malcolm-smith-report-says.htmlBrowns re-sign LB Malcolm Smith to a one-year deal By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Browns are bringing former Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith back for 2021, a league source told cleveland.com. They re-signed him on Wednesday to a one-year deal, the source said. Smith, also signed to a one-year deal with the Browns in training camp last season, finished second on the team with 72 tackles, while adding one sack, one forced fumble and one interception. The Browns had other free-agent linebackers on their radar, but opted to keep one of their own. Pro Football Focus ranked Smith the No. 13 linebacker in the NFL in 2020, and No. 7 in coverage. An 11th-year pro, Smith, 31, immediately stepped in and established himself as a leader on defense last season. “Just try and add my sauce, bring what I can to the mix,” he said then. “That’s how you get things better. You blend energies, try and get everybody moving in the same direction.” Smith will always be remembered for his sensational performance in Super Bowl XLVIII, when he notched 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception for a touchdown in Seattle’s 43-8 victory over the Broncos. The Browns also announced their agreements on Wednesday with safety John Johnson III and defensive end Takk McKinley.

I agree. We needed to re-sign him (and probably will re-sign Goodson too)
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Nice move. He was our only average-slightly above average LB last year. Which made him our best LB last year.

Re-signing him is good, but hopefully they're not done with the LB room.

Quick blurb from a Colts website say that he's a strong LB against the run, started a bunch after being selected in the 5th round, very smart, but weak in coverage. Colts drafted someone they really liked and Harris eventually became expendable as that rookie came along.

Knowing very little about the guy, which kind of run is he strong against? The Derrick Henry type of run or the Lamar Jackson type of run?

I was truly, pleasantly surprised by Smith's play last year. He really did play well.

Glad to hear it. The LB'er position certainly needs upgraded. But he alone was the one bright spot in the group. With Walker set to visit, it seems they understand an upgrade is needed.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

While I get that acquiring Walker is a bit underwhelming considering how our LB corps looked last year, I don't think we should turn our noses up at run stuffers. The first step in making Lamar 1-dimensional and stopping him is by shutting down their RBs.

Is this merely a show me? I was pleased with his play last year, surprisingly so.

On a football team you need good players. Maybe not the most exciting signing, but he played well and will bring continuity..
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!…. That did not age well.
