Adam Schefter
@AdamSchefter
Former Colts’ LB Anthony Walker is signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Browns, per

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Our linebackers need to fit a specific role. They are not every down players. Hopefully Walker can find a role and be great. His ex teammates in Indianapolis rave about him.

Another good move.

Smart team player. Do "Not" discount chemistry.

The pattern is clear. Smart players who have excelled in roles.

Defensive players at all levels of defense.

I like what Takk said in his presser. Seems like the light has come on. This guy has talent. You have to have skills to be drafted in the first round as a pass rusher.
Maturity seems to have happened.

Walker and Smith are proven smart role players that we have on short term deals. Not huge investments but can play a big role.

The back end. This is where we needed the biggest upgrade.
And we scored in a big way.

Corners - Ward, Hill, Greedy, Stewart
Safety - John Johnson, Ronnie Harrison, Delpit, Redwine

Mary Kay is reporting $3.5M is max value.

Is it just me or are a lot more NFL contracts incentive laden than normal?

The same is said from teammates of JJ and Hill.

I am really proud of what Andrew is doing.

yeah, short on years and guarantees. Players are waiting until the cap balloons back up

Listening to Zegura on CBD, Walker is expected to have a big role at the position, even though like you say, they'll be fighting for snaps in this scheme.

I was listening to the NFL network on XM today, they noted the same thing.. I'm not sure I understand it, but they said it's been happening and that the reason is the lower CAP this year and maybe next..

Whatever dimension Throw Long's mind resides in on a regular basis he apparently teleports into our three-dimensional plane of existence occasionally. Because he is traveling incalculable distances mentally it seems his LZ can sometimes be missed. This time he ended up at the University of Miami where basketball Anthony Walker, 6"9", 210 lbs plays for the Hurricanes. This is understandable, when your mind travels faster than the speed of light it could result in a 1,500-mile error. The approximate distance between Miami and Cleveland where football Anthony Walker signed with the Browns.

Jason Pinkston- Cleveland's independent contractor for recruiting. For those not on twitter, this guy reps/promotes the Cleveland Browns as much as anyone.

No. No. I was just highlighting the thread title does not include his position, or where he last played.
It was petty of me and I'm not real proud of it.

I have a feeling this guy is going to be a major asset and will hope we can ink him up for another few years.

This has all the earmarking of tighter coverages and more time for the pass rush to get home. Give Myles an extra half a beat to get there and all of a sudden your pass rush goes to another level.

I see Phillips becoming a great LB starting this season as well he has great speed and hits hard his biggest issue is taking poor angles once he improves there and I have every reason to believe he will this guy has a high high ceiling. This defense is shaping up to be very good.

Oh and much much faster, speed everywhere.

Versatility.

John Johnson is the key add.

Throw away terms like FS, SS, etc. JJ played box and then moved to FS (center field). His total grade in coverage and tackling is the highest for all safety's.

Troy Hill has played both cover corner and slot corner.

Delpit can play both safety positions.

Ronnie Harrison is kinda of hybrid safety/linebacker.

Ward and Greedy can both play press corner man. Or, zone cover.

Walker is a tackling machine. Malcolm Smith smart player who is good as second level run support.

Phillips and Wilson both have speed. Both are young players who should develop. Taki is improving but gets lost at times.

Woods now can implement the defense he wants to play.

The back end now supports the pass rush. Before the pass rush had to save coverage.

Like you said an extra split second and the rush has more opportunities to make positive plays.

We have improved greatly. And the draft is still to come.

JMO I believe the guy that's going to benefit from these signings and really develop is Jacob Phillips. He hustles and is a sideline to sideline player. He really couldn't show what he could do last season because of injuries but him healthy along with Anthony Walker helping him well I really think he will get much better.

Yeah that’s a good point. Walker can help mentor him like he did with Leonard

Last year was at the height of the panic. I would suspect a limited number of tickets will be issued.

I would think you probably won't be allowed to wander around to watch this group or that. You will get some assigned spot and that is where you stay.

Colts fans are saying he's great against the run but mediocre in coverage. Isn't that where we are hurting? Doesn't that put us back at square one with our linebacker core? I hope he does great things here. His ex teammates love him.

I don't know if he is or isn't....lets say isn't.

Running a 4-2-5 would lead me to think maybe he won't be required to drop in to a primary coverage role nearly as much, or more of a zone while others man up on players. Blitz is another option.

That's a good question. I think with the fact that we have so many guys in coverage now, we probably need someone who's decent against the run. Someone to watch the A gaps when the pocket closes around Jackson, too.

Phillips and wilson were two of the worst rated linebackers in the league last year..I wouldn't put too many hopes on these guys
