This is the Ogunjobi replacement. Jackson overlapped for one year with Woods in Denver. He was a part of the great Broncos defense that won the Super Bowl with noodle armed Peyton Manning. He then left Denver and got paid huge money by Jacksonville.

I'm guessing I like it, but still haven't seen the money.

Berry should know him pretty well since he was with the Eagles when they brought him in.

I really love this signing...He was on of the top DTs that I wanted here, He is a steady aggressive vet...I always said I wanted the Eagles Dline, and how they are nice and deep at both end and tackle. They play "wave" players as a norm to keep that DLine fresh...I mean there was a period where the guy started 107 games, which is no small feat playing in those trenches. Kudos to the FO and the signing!

Berry getting those nice, cheap, 1-year deals - keeping us flexible for the future.

The thing I like about this signing (being able to play DT and DE in a pinch) and the Hill signing (being able to playing outside and slot) is that it gives our defense a lot of flexibility in case of injuries.

Berry is checking all the boxes; we're heading into the draft in great shape with no glaring needs. We can draft BPA and develop some cheap depth to take over after these short-term deals - with 6 picks in the first 4 rounds!

I can honestly see us going DT, DE, LB, CB, WR, or interior OL with our 1st pick, and I wouldn't be too upset (or worried we didn't fill a hole) with any of those positions...it's a good feeling to have.

I like it. Roster's shaping up heading to the draft.

I agree on Clowney, though I suspect he might be seeking too much at this point.

I know some think the guy is a bust, but he is a very good player. he may be a bust in the minds of Houston fans much like Gerrard warren is viewed as a bust by Browns fans, but that doesn't mean the guy isn't a very good player.

You never know how it will all pan out until the games are played, but the D is starting to look a bit "filthy". Add Clowney and we will be set on that side of the ball.

Heck, we may already be set.

I know some point to Depos "guardrails", and I agree with those, but that is the overriding philosophy for building the team. Once you have met those, which we have, adding some solid veteran experience to the youth is the prudent move to make.

A platoon of soldiers isn't forty or so 19year olds with one Lt. in command. You have several sergeants acting as squad leaders to provide some in your face order and direction.

This is exciting. With more interior pressure, on the rush, we just got uglier to block. And consider our stunts ro be tougher and our 'vanilla" to be more effective. Those things should edge up the secondary as a payoff IMO.

Berry is really hitting this FA well, or so it seems to me. Making good adds and keeping the cap manageable. Unleash The Elf!

Is he healthy/durable? He's a little bit older than the ideal Berry signing, but seems like he checks the boxes, performance-wise.

I'm curious if this will effect Richardson at all. I hope not, but they are similar interior guys (though Richardson is still better in the run game).

I think it might affect Richardson's pay but not his place on the roster. I've always thought that Richardson will have to take a pay cut. Jackson's signing kind of shows what Richardson's market would be if he was cut.

I don't think he needs to take a pay cut we still have 15 mill to play with before we have to start negotiating current contracts.

He doesn't need to, we are just paying him way above market value. If there were a player exactly like Richardson in free agency he would be getting paid much less than Richardson.

Under that criteria, most everyone other than QB's would be considered paid well above market value. I'm not sure how you can use a year under Covid to try and negate what a player is actually worth.

If you look at what a lot of good players are signing for, you could use that as an excuse to renegotiate half of the contracts in the NFL.

No we do not. We have spent (cap hits n/a) 17-18 million on top of what we currently have figured under our cap.

And the new contract is supposed to avoid those previous huge rookie deals so more money goes to proven veterans.

Getting Clowney now, with what we already have acquired, might be a good move providing it's at the right price. You mentioned Gerard Warren. If you consider where He was drafted, I believe it was 2nd overall, then yes he might be a bust. However he was a pretty good player for a number of years. If he was drafted in the 2nd RD no one would say he was a bust.

Bingo. Adding a healthy Clowney, at a reasonable price, while not needing much from him would be great.

All one has to do is look at the rookie deals made before the new agreement and after the agreement to see that it was accomplished. Rookie contracts were greatly reduced and are now structured. I have no idea what point you are trying to make here. Rookie contracts took up 4.3% of a teams cap in 2012. It took up 1.6% of a teams cap in 2013.

and with Claiborne leaving the team,

And with Malik Jackson, being a question to return from injury, even when talking about signing him, (a year ago), and he hasn't played since 2019, it looks like.

And with Takk McKinley failing two teams physicals near thanksgiving of last year.

I think that feels like about 50 question marks to hope the 2021 Browns can match the excellent ranking of team defense against the run, they held much of last season.
Let alone having anybody mobile enough to pressure the Qb, Garrett can't line up in 5 positions simultaneously.

You might not get much because he's hurt a lot but if you get 10- 12 games along with decent production from Takk and Myles on the other side that might be pretty good!
