Trump urges supporters to get coronavirus vaccine

Former President Trump on Tuesday urged his supporters to get vaccinated against the coronavirus as concern grows over polls showing GOP vaccine hesitancy.

Making a rare media appearance on Fox News, Trump said he would “recommend” the shots that are currently being distributed but added a caveat about respecting individual freedoms.

“I would recommend it, and I would recommend it to a lot of people who don’t want to get it and a lot of people who voted for me, frankly, and we have our freedoms, and we have to live by that, and I agree with that also,” he told Fox News's Maria Bartiromo, adding that “it’s a great vaccine, and it’s a safe vaccine.”

The comments mark the first time that the former president has openly advocated for his followers to get a coronavirus shot. Vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson have been authorized in the U.S., with more than 110 million doses administered so far.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses to reach full effectiveness, while the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires just one shot.

Democrats and Republicans alike have been clamoring for Trump to publicly urge his supporters to get a shot amid surveys showing many Republicans are hesitant to getting vaccinated.

A PBS Newshour/NPR/Marist poll released last week found that 41 percent of Republicans said they would not get the shot, and a CBS News poll released late last month found that 34 percent of Republicans said they would not be vaccinated for COVID-19.

“If former President Trump woke up tomorrow and wanted to be more vocal about the safety and efficacy of the campaign, of the vaccine, certainly we’d support that,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said at a briefing with reporters Monday.

Trump received his vaccine in January before leaving office, though news of his inoculation did not come out until earlier this month, and he has mostly remained mum on the vaccine post-presidency. When he has discussed the shots, he has mostly claimed credit for the work that was put into creating them during his administration rather than urging supporters to get vaccinated.

“What the Trump administration has done with vaccines has, in many respects, perhaps saved large portions of the world, not only our country but large portions of the world,” he said at last month’s Conservative Political Action Conference.

While the Trump administration touted the success of its Operation Warp Speed in creating viable vaccines in a number of months, breaking records for the speed at which an inoculation was formed, the former president spent much of his last year in office dismissing the threat the virus posed to the public.

Trump in 2020 said the virus would “disappear” and in an interview with journalist Bob Woodward said he intentionally sought to downplay the virus.

“I wanted to, I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down because I don’t want to create a panic,” Trump said in a recording released by Woodward.

I'm not sure how effective Trump coming out in favor of the vaccine will be now.

I mean, he's spent the last year trying to downplay the virus, saying things like it will just go away and such things. Then he touted his efforts to get the vaccine made but then did a terrible job of getting it to the people.. No plans made..

If you're still a Trump supporter, you're simply believing the latest thing he's communicated without thinking about it too hard. That last part will get you into trouble.

Sorry, but do you have any numbers to back up this claim? Specifically, can you compare the US to the EU, which would be our closest comparison?

I am no Trump supporter, but getting the vaccine rolled-out was one of the few things he did right. The numbers will back this claim up, if needed.

What I can tell you is there was no plan for federal vaccine locations to help states administer the vaccine. Since Biden took office several have been set up and more are on the way. Places where thousands of vaccines can be administered in a single day. The speed at which the vaccines can be administered has greatly increased under this plan and will increase more.

I've heard people say, "Yeah, well Trump would have done that too." But that's pure speculation on their parts. As it was, states were left to fend for themselves. Now we will have the National Guard and FEMA lending assistance.

Practical things that obviously didn't seem practical or easy for Trump.

Even when he promotes the use of the vaccine it's with a caveat. "Yeah, but freedom".

Actual Data

Once again, we are on the same logarithmic progression we were on under Trump. Unless you can point on the graph exactly when Biden's policies began taking effect - which during the last time we discussed this at the end of January, was still a couple of weeks away- then I'm going to assume that the same progression would have occurred under Trump.

And that still doesn't changed that fact that we have been consistently ahead of the EU, our closest comparison, since the vaccinations started while Trump was president.

I'm not saying Biden is doing a bad job, but he also isn't the savior some are claiming him to be - mostly because Trump's vaccine rollout wasn't nearly as bad as some have claimed.

So why was my father who is 65+, severely medically vulnerable, and goes to the best cancer hospital in the state unable to get it for months?

It wasn't until Biden really got things rolling that he was able to get it. Something that he has said himself, and he supported Trump.

My understanding is that, much like the Coronavirus response overall, Trump punted responsibility of vaccine rollout to the states. Philosophically I'm on board with this, but just as we saw with Coronavirus response, some states are doing a less than stellar job and the leadership involved is severely lacking. Someone that was a good leader and prioritized COVID appropriately would've stepped in at some point and started steering the ship(s) in the right direction.

You're making the assumptions that Trump would have made the same moves and decisions Biden made to speed up the process. I've given you facts about federal vaccination sites which did not exist and were not in the works. There have been a lot more vaccinations purchased. Trump actually turned down the opportunity to buy 100 million doses months ago. There was the deal Biden worked on to get Johnson & Johnson to work together with Merck to speed up vaccine production.

I wonder how your graph would have looked if Trump had purchased those vaccines back in December?

We are approaching three million vaccinations a day now. To claim that things would have ramped up this quickly under Trump, all of these things would have to have happened the same way for the speed of the vaccinations administered now as well as what they will rise to in the near future.

I didn't point to a graph. I've given you the facts of what has happened to speed up the vaccinations since trump left office. I've given you facts that Trump wasn't taking nearly as many measures to speed up the process as Biden has done. I've given you a fact that trump turned down a million doses of the vaccine back in December. You stick with your graph and I'll stick with the evidence of what has actually caused this to happen.

So, what is your reasoning why the US so greatly outperformed the EU in the month before and the weeks after the inauguration (when i was told Biden's policies hadn't taken effect yet)?

You have no numerical data that shows Trump has done a bad job with the vaccination rollout, especially when compared to other countries.

I gave you the evidence and facts of him refusing to buy more vaccine. I've given you evidence of measures to speed up the process that Trump did not do. So it's obvious a much better job could have been done. All of the things Biden has done could have been done from the very beginning. I actually pointed out on this very board how using resources such as the National Guard and FEMA to roll out the vaccine would help speed up the process. How refusing to purchase 100 million doses would slow things down.

These are basic things trump could have done but didn't. You wish to make some comparison while I'm giving you evidence of basic opportunities and resources trump neglected to use.

The facts I've provided to you are not assumptions.

The coronavirus vaccine may be in short supply in much of the nation, but there are some communities where it’s a much harder sell, as CNN’s Gary Tuchman learned during a trip to Oklahoma.

In Boise City, Tuchman entered a diner and asked if anyone in the room was ready for the shot. In a county where 92 percent voted for former President Donald Trump in November, Tuchman’s query was met with silence. Not even Trump’s endorsement of the vaccine made a difference.

“Trump is a liberal New Yorker,” one Trump voter declared. “Why would we listen to him either?”

Another diner flat-out said “no” when asked if Trump’s endorsement would get him to take the vaccine.

Other diners rejected both science and government. Tuchman found much the same attitude elsewhere in the community.

You know who ordered 200 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine initially? The EU! Yet somehow, we have easily outpaced them while Trump was in office. How is that possible!?

If you can't see how none of the things you mentioned would have mattered in the beginning stages of a vaccine rollout when you are limited by the production of the vaccine, I can't help you. Donald Trump returning to social media in 2-to-3 months with own platform: aide

Former President Donald Trump will return to social media within the next few months — and with his own service, his top adviser said Sunday.

Jason Miller told Fox News’ ​”Media Buzz” that the former president will be back in two to three months, and will launch a new platform that he claimed would “completely redefine the game” and attract tens of millions of users.

Twitter dropped Trump from its platform in January just days after a mob of his supporters marched on the Capitol as Congress was certifying the 2020 election for President Biden.

The crowd surged past law enforcement officers and smashed windows and doors to gain entrance to the federal building where they ransacked a number of congressional offices. Five people died as a result of the mayhem, including a Capitol Police officer.

Twitter said Trump was “permanently suspended​”​ ​because he was inciting “violence,” cutting him off from his 88.6 million followers.

'Joe Biden is a pathological liar'

Biden claims he took part in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, and not a word is true

This coming Tuesday, as you head off to the polls to cast your vote, remember this: Joe Biden is a pathological liar.

Donald Trump may be rude and crude. He may be abrasive and off-putting. His Twitter temperament may be caustic, his leadership style demanding, his political instincts heavy-handed, and his use of hyperbole a bit extreme; yes, President Trump may be a pugnacious man with many flaws that he doesn’t even care to hide, but Joe Biden is a proven, habitual, unrepentant fraud and a pathological liar of the highest order.

Civil rights activist Shaun King says this. “Since the early 1970s, Joe Biden has been a serial liar …”


Mr. King goes on to explain.

“In 1987, when Joe Biden was running for president for the very first time, his campaign got swallowed up in a swarm of lies that [he] told about himself all over the country. First, Biden was caught plagiarizing a famous speech from, then, Britsh Labor Pary Leader Neil Kinnock — including parts of the speech that came straight from Kinnock’s personal life that were not true for Biden.

“Then, he plagiarized yet another speech from the late Robert Kennedy and another from JFK and another from Hubert Humphrey … Soon, it was discovered that Biden had not just plagiarized those four speeches, but had lied about academic awards [that he never earned], lied about scholarships [that he never received], and lied about his ranking in law school [stating he graduated in the top half of his class when in fact he finished 76th out of 85].”

Mr. King then concludes by highlighting the series of 31 Biden lies he finds most foul; a list of prevarications dating back to the ’70s that are beyond the pale because they show Mr. Biden to be a bald-faced liar about his involvement in our nation’s march for civil rights.

After going through each one of these deceptions in great detail, Mr. King offers this summary: “Joe Biden … on the backs of people who actually paid an enormous price for being activists and organizers in the Civil Rights Movement, created a completely false narrative of his work and contributions …” In other words, Mr. Biden repeatedly claimed that he took part in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, and not a word of it was or is true. It never happened. He is lying.

Jeff Chidester of Seacoastonline summarizes Mr. Biden’s pattern of deceit this way. “On numerous occasions, Biden claimed he … was an activist and organizer within the civil rights movement, that he had been trained as a civil rights activist in Black churches, that he had participated in civil rights sit-ins, boycotts, and marches, and even went so far as to claim he was ‘raised in a Black church.’ None of this is true, not even a little bit. It’s all a complete fabrication … A decent man does not do this; a deceitful man does.”

Lies, damned lies and the truth about Joe Biden

Nancy Pelosi dismissed Tara Reade’s accusations of sexual assault against Joe Biden. “I know him,” said the House Speaker authoritatively, and that was that.

Does Biden’s record warrant such confidence? Not really. In fact, Biden has a long history of lying — about himself, about his past and about events that never took place.

Democrats want the 2020 campaign to be a referendum on President Trump. Fine, but if this is to be a contest of characters, it is only appropriate that Joe Biden’s history of fabrication and deceit – often intended to bolster his intellectual credentials – also be fair game.


Over the past year, Biden thundered that the Obama administration “didn’t lock people up in cages.” He also claimed that, “Immediately, the moment [the Iraq War] started, I came out against it.” And… “I was always labeled one of the most liberal members of Congress.” Politico’s rating of all three assertions? False.

No one should be surprised. Lest we forget…

A video is making the rounds in which Biden boasts at a 1987 rally, "I went to law school on a full academic scholarship…[and] ended up in the top half of my class."

Biden also maintained that he "graduated with three degrees from undergraduate school" and was the “outstanding student in the political science department.”

Not one of those claims was true, as newscasters at the time affirmed. In fact, Biden graduated 76th of 85 students in his law school class, had only a partial scholarship and did not win top honors in his undergraduate discipline.

Biden explained in his 2007 autobiography “Promises to Keep” that he had been angry at that rally since “it sounded to me that one of my own supporters doubted my intelligence." According to a 1987 Newsweek piece, a supporter had “politely” asked Biden what law school he attended and how well he had done.


Biden bristled, saying “I think I have a much higher IQ than you do,” reeled off his fabricated accomplishments and concluded “I’d be delighted to sit down and compare my IQ to yours if you’d like, Frank.”

The episode reminds us of Biden recently snapping “You’re full of sh*t” at an auto worker who dared to challenge Biden’s stance on guns; or calling an Iowa voter a “damn liar” for insinuating that Biden had helped his son gain access in Ukraine.

The Newsweek reporter wrote that Biden appears “hyper, glib and intellectually insecure,” and says the 1987 encounter was critical to understanding why Biden’s first run at higher office flopped. “The clip…reflects a view of Biden's character widely shared in the community. Reporters and political consultants long ago concluded that Biden's chief character flaw was his tendency to wing it. He seems to lack a crucial synapse between brain and tongue, the one that makes the do-I-really-want-to-say-this decision.”

That commentary holds up well, as today more than ever Biden blunders into conversational crevasses, with no way out. (Think: "If they believe Tara Reade, they probably shouldn't vote for me.” A new Harvard-Harris poll shows 55 percent of the country believes Tara Reade. Game. Set. Match.)

Biden’s 1987 campaign foundered also because he was caught lifting passages of a speech given by Neil Kinnock. Biden echoed (falsely) the British Labor leader’s history that he was the first "in a thousand generations" to graduate from college and repeated virtually verbatim the same story about his wife, just as Kinnock had.

More shocking, Biden claimed: “My ancestors…worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours,’’ even though no one in Biden’s family tree ever worked underground. That was Kinnock’s family.

It wasn’t the first time; Biden had also been caught plagiarizing during law school. He “borrowed” an entire five pages from a published law review article without attribution and had to beg not to be expelled.

Interestingly, just last summer complaints arose about Biden “borrowing” the work of others, in putting together his climate plan. As Vox reported, Biden’s plan “contains a number of passages that seem to have been copied and pasted, at times with very superficial changes” from a variety of sources.

Biden supporters will dismiss these episodes as being in the distant past. But Biden’s tendency to mislead did not expire in 1988. More recently, the former vice president has told audiences that after his stint in the White House, “I became a teacher. I became a professor.” While it is true that he took a lofty salary to make a handful of speeches for the University of Pennsylvania, Biden has never taught students.

Then there was the inspiring tale of visiting Afghanistan to honor a heroic naval officer. Biden described the officer’s actions in detail, adding, “This is God’s truth, my word as a Biden.” But according to a review in the Washington Post, no such incident occurred. Biden was lucky not to be hit by lightning.

There were also Biden’s claims of having been arrested in the 1970s because he tried to visit Nelson Mandela in prison. Nope, didn’t happen. He has also cast himself as a civil rights activist and co-sponsor of the Endangered Species Act; those things aren’t true either.

Character does not change. Biden’s winning smile and genial nature have granted him license to mislead. But as Biden denies alleged misdeeds related to General Flynn, to his son Hunter’s involvement in Ukraine or to Tara Reade, his history of bending the truth is informative.


Democrats will counter that President Trump frequently exaggerates and embellishes, which is true. But we know Trump; he has been on the griddle for nearly four years, and been continually stripped and flayed by a hostile press
