First you tell him having the conversation only based on his beliefs it will help is wrong. Then you go on to say your backing of something will work, based on your beliefs.

That's my point, we allow it to happen..

Ya know, if the NRA would get off their fat asses and assist in this endeavor, we might be able to make headway.

Here's one fact I can tell you won't work. Doing nothing.

Common sense gun control will work. The only question that actually remains is to what extent.

Stopping criminals from purchasing guns from private individuals with no background checks will help. To what extent is unknown. It's a legal loophole that gives an easy path for criminals to buy guns. Society shouldn't advocate that continues by doing nothing.

Now I know I'll get the excuse, "Well a criminal will get a gun anyway". In case those who say this haven't noticed, most of these shooters aren't gang bangers from the hood.

I know doing something will help more than doing nothing.

I really believe that this issue of mass shootings is the result of the entitlement and lack of discipline that the last few generations have been permitted to get away with. The acceptable blaming of other entities for personal shortcomings rather than working thru them is so rampant in our society that a lot of our people lack the tools to deal with actual life stressors when they occur. The "johnny can do no wrong" and "everybody gets a trophy" model doesn't prepare our kids for dealing with relationship issues, managing finances, coping with loss, having to work for a living" etc. Throw a life changing event or mental illness into this mix and people snap.

When I say, "permitted to get away with", I'm blaming the older generations as much or more than the younger ones, because they set the wheels in motion. They didn't prepare their offspring to cope with the stressors of life.

Statistics verify that Clintons 10 year Federal Assault Weapons Ban had an impact ... but again, facts don't matter. Much better to roll with fear and emotions. Funny to see someone who feels the need to own a gun in order to feel safe call others paranoid for wanting to try to address mass shootings.

You guys, it’s an epidemic that has been made even worse by the physical health epidemic. It’s going to get far worse. It’s also been a crisis that has been ignored for decades. The quick fix for solving state economic issues was to cut mental health funding. It’s been a disaster for many years.

The social media extremist views draw these people in, give them comfort, and then give them the idea that what they are doing is noble or a deserved payback. How we fight these multiple issues, given the ridiculous political divide, gives me no hope that we will do anything to resolve this terrible problem in this country,

Point well taken Jules.. People tend to put all the solutions into one bucket.. I just don't believe it's that simple. Apparently as do you.

There are several major entities that, if engaged in really finding solutions, they can. NRA, State Governments, Federal Governments, Schools, etc. The list is long. Problem is, each entity sees it through their own eyes. But none seem to see it for what it is.

I agree with everything you said Jules. We are both old enough to have seen it all unfold with our own eyes. There's just one thing I would like to add.

There will still be an issue with who will be willing to and want to seek help. It's much like getting people with drug and alcohol problems to seek help. You can't help them until they're ready to accept they have a problem and wish to address it.

Better access to quality mental healthcare is certainly something that will help the situation. But often times it's the most disillusioned that think they don't have a problem. Then there's the issue of being able to force people into mental care. That in and of itself is a complicated issue with a very slippery slope.

Let’s just start and end with the AR style of rifle and magazine size. They are used in the overwhelming majority of these killing it is beyond coincidence.

I have said it before, time is the only thing that can slow someone down.

I’m betting you don’t have kids to raise and never have.

I have about 10,000 kids on my games. I know entitled spoiled kids when I see them. Its also sad how so many parents use games as a baby sitter for their kids. Too many kids not being raised right.

Its not any different than that 13 year old that was killed. Where were the parents? Why were the parents letting their 13 year old run loose with guns and 21 year olds at 2:30 in the morning?

Parents are the problem.

And now we find that the Police took his shotgun away from him based on a call from his Mother.. Part of a red flag event.

Yet, he goes out and legally buys the guns that he used to kill people at the Fedex facility.

Like I said, it's not the guns, it's those we allow to have them..

I don't think it's as trite or disparagingly simplistic as you're making it out to be, but there is an issue with resiliency among younger generations (Z and onward) that not only segues into homicidal problems, but suicidal.

One way parenting I believe has improved generationally is more encouragement in letting the children be who they actually are, rather than forcing them to be something they're not.

On the flip side, I do believe expectations of success and the lack of tools to cope with adversity has become a greater problem.

100% Truth. And when combined with an educationally dumbed down population, divisive politics, fascist racist fear mongering, and the inability to accept personal fault... well the country becomes a shooting gallery.
