I'm excited for this. Rumors are that it'll be out this summer. Let's hope so!
Title of new Harry Potter book announced
We now have a title for Harry Potter VII: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
J.K. Rowling's U.S. publisher, Scholastic Inc., announced the name Thursday of the world's most anticipated children's book, the finale to her phenomenally popular fantasy series. No publication date or other details were offered.
Rowling is still working on the book, she explained on her Web site. "I'm now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more. I don't think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry, I will.)"

Awesome - I was hoping that she would write one more after he was out of school - but know it won't happen... can't wait for it to come out.

I found another article with Rowling saying that two of the characters will die. Now who could it be?
I still think Dumbledore is alive.

It's supposed to be out in July around the same time as the movie of "Order of the Phoenix".
She has reapeatedly said there won't be an 8th book and if the rumors about Harry's demise are true it's sounds like she plans on sticking to it.

I still think he is as well... but that's just me - I have a feeling that Potter could die, but don't see it happening... I think the most intriguing character though is Snape - so interested in seeing how his role plays out.

This is awesome.. I just wish there was a projected date of realease out you know?
And I almost feel as though a Harry Potter thread isn't complete without some complete tools coming in and calling us all "NERDS!"

She's been pretty adamant about saying Dumbie's dead. My take is, yes, he's dead... dead like a Phoenix! Or perhaps, like some popular religious figures. So dead, but then not

The thing that gets me is all through that book they talked about silent spells and having to mean it when you cast the spell to kill someone. Snape was an expert at both and since I don't beleive he's on the Voldemot's side I think he used both of those factors in casting that spell.

Honestly,
At first I absolutely hated the Harry Potter series.
But, as a historian I have taken an interest in them for the simple fact that it has renewed interest among younger generations in mythology and such. So, the series has caught on with me.

I still feel there will be more movies coming out. It my take a few years before another comes out. They said the same thing about StarWars and look at that.

There are more movies coming out because there are more books that haven't been made into movies yet. There will be 7 total like the books. The Star Wars series were written as screen plays not books.

Right and if in book 7 she kill's Harry like has been hinted for about 2 years now, it will be kind of hard to make more when the main character and the title of the series is dead.

Plus I think she has legal rights to the characters and the images so even if someone else wants to try it I don't think they'd get away with it. I know they can't even use character names on various HP message boards because of the rights to the names.

I can imagine it is really dificult to continue writing a series using the same characters. She really wants to move onto something else and killing Harry she won't have to hear about if she will make another Harry Potter book. Buuuuuuuuut there could always be a "Hermione Granger and the ????????" book

IF you check out the site I posted earlier in this thread she's pretty adamant that there won't be any more books that are even connected tot he series. I just can't wait till book 7 I'm going to reread the other 6 befor it comes out in July so everything is fresh in my mind.

She could always change her mind. I guess the success of her next project could determine that. If it happens to be a huge flop she may come back to the series.
I will be reread the first 6 also. I really enjoyed this series and it reminded me of reading the "Cronicles of Narnia" when I was younger. Like someone had mentioned earilier these books have got a lot of youger kids back into reading and that is good in a world of MTV, Video Games and the Internet.

I haven't read any of the Potter books, and I don't plan to, but looking at the storylines...he will die. The heroic arc almost guarantees it. If he doesn't, Rowling puts a new twist on literary methods.

The Star Wars series were written as screen plays not books. Ok my point was that if there is profit to be made, they will find a way to have more books published. If they throw enough money out to her the pencil will sharpen back up. nordawg

I had never read Narnia when I was younger so I borrowed them from my niece after reading the Harry Pooter series. Both series were good pick me ups for me at a time when that's just what I needed.

Schweet. I'll have to check out Amazon. We really don't have a good bookstore in Alliance. (Waldens and they suck) May have to hit up Borders or something in Boardman. I know what I'll be looking for after the 1st of January

LMAO.........Lama, I'm already the biggest reading nerd you will ever meet. I am hooked on Ann McCaffrey's Dragon Riders Of Pern series........I have almost all the books in that series and read them OVER AND OVER! I do really need to add to my collection of Sci-fi/Fantasy books. I am working on re-reading Battlefield Earth again. (just got it at the Dollar Store last week ....couldn't beat the price $1. )

Lama - you think Snape is still on Harry and Dumbledore's side? I find that very hard to believe after the last book. But, I would say that Snape is Rowling's best-desgined character. He's so confusing and mysterious that nothing he does surprises me.

i know this was to lama, but yeah i definetly think snape is on the good side.
and dumbledore is still alive....
i really need to re-read the books to get my theory in order but i think the prophesy is refering to harry and dumbledore...
one needs to "die" so the other can live
snape has needed the protection of dumbledore since he turned to the good side, by staging him killing dumbledore he can then go back with the deatheaters as a hero, and find and destroy the remaining horcuxes (or whatever they were called) then harry can whack voldemort, marry ginny and live happily ever after.....

Lama - you think Snape is still on Harry and Dumbledore's side? Yep I do. The silent spell and the fact that it was necessary to mean it when casting the death spell were stressed so many times in that book especially by Snape. Yes, he's definitely an interesting character and I can't imagine anyone but Alan Rickman playing him that was some great casting.

I do not believe that Dumbledore is alive, Snape performed the Avada Kedavra and there is NO counter for that and NO spell can awaken the dead, as Dumbledore told this to Potter at the end of "The Goblet of Fire" . I do think Dumbledore could return as a ghostly imprint to help Harry complete the task of defeating Voldemort.
I also think Harry and Snape will both die, I'm trying to maintain some belief that Hermione and Ron will be left alive. Also some rumor was going on about Wormtail owing Harry a "Life Debt" because he prevented Lupin and Sirius from killing him, this also tied into the silver hand that Voldemort gave Wormtail after he cut it off to bring Voldemort back toi physical form. Also I was thinking that Draco Malfoy could play some part in helping Harry, reluctantly, as he could not bring himself to kill Dumbledore.
Not exactly a flashy title like all of the other books! imo.

Let me repeat once more it was stressed throughout the book that in order for that spell to work the person casting had to MEAN it. I don't believe that Snape meant it and I also think he could have been casting a silent spell at the same time. So while there is no way to take it back there is a way to cast the spell and have it not work.

****Disclaimer: Contains info from The half blood Prince*******
Lama, Snape swore an "Unbreakable Vow" to Mrs. Malfoy that if Draco fail in his task from Voldemort then Snape would finish it. If Snape didn't kill Dumbledore he would of broke this vow,(Don't know what would happen if you broke one but it probably can't be good). I truely believe Dumbledore is dead and I believe Snape is still on the good side even though Harry may not believe it. Snape has a role to play in defeating Voldemort and Dumbledore knew this. I think he froze Harry to prevent him from stoping Snape which would of in turn stoped Snape from completing his "Unbreakable Vow".
