The #Browns are signing former Florida State DT Marvin Wilson to a huge rookie free-agent deal that includes a $30,000 signing bonus plus $162,000 in guaranteed base salary, per source. Cleveland won a swift bidding war for Wilson, one of the top players to go undrafted.

We certainly think he’ll be a player for us this fall

Thats a lot of $$$$$ for an UDFA they must really like him ...

Emmanuel Rugamba, CB Ball State

Age: 23 (Born March 3rd, 1998)

Height: 5'11 1/4"

Weight: 198 pounds

Pretty decent agility if they want him to play in the slot. His explosion is pretty underwhelming and he is listed as having run a 4.74 40.

Romeo McKnight, EDGE Charlotte

Age: 23 (Born March 25th, 1998)

Height: 6'4 1/8"

Weight: 252 lbs

He tested slow in terms of his speed, but both his explosion and agility are promising. McKnight spent time at Iowa as well as Illinois State and Charlotte.

Tre Harbison III, RB Charlotte

Age: 22 (July 1st, 1998)

Marvin was the top 5 star #1 DL in the country recruited out of High School.
At FSU he blocked 3 kicks, 2 in one game.

Looks like some projected he could go as high as the 3rd round, most felt he should have been drafted.... seems to have had a better year last year... could be a good UDFA signing....

Lol a 1st round pick as an UDFA is a bit of a stretch, but there’s no doubt he was highly touted and fell off. Let’s hope he can contribute

Going into this season, he was the top rated DT and most pre-season mock drafts had him going 1st round. Don't know what happened to change that.

I think I read somewhere that the NFL was limiting the number of UDFAs that each team could sign to 5 this year. So there could be a bidding war for the top FAs. That may have played a part in Wilson's signing terms.

Why in the world would the NFL do that? With an extra game and Covid still a danger one would think the NFL would allow more players to come to camp and more on the practice squad. Limiting UDFA signings this year makes no sense. Probably why they did it.

From what I read, if he would have come out last year he was projected as a 1st or 2nd round pick...

There are quite a few guys I thought would get drafted that ended up on the UFA list. Marvin Wilson being one of them. Glad we got him. Dylan Moses was another guy that was discussed as a first round pick that fell all the way out of the draft.I thought he would go 3rd or 4th round to some team.

At minimum Wilson is stout against the run. He can anchor in and be tough to move. With our lighter LB group, it will be important to have a boulder in the line who can chew up 2 blockers. That alone can earn him a spot on our line even if he isn't all that effective in the passing game as a rusher.

So far Cleveland has only signed four UDFAs, I think that speaks a lot to the talent levels we have and is another feather in Berry's cap. Quality over quantity is best but don't we still need to field 90 for training camp? Where are we now in total players under contract?

At one point we had to find talent. We are now at the point we have to find better talent. That changes the landscape on your strategy and the way you approach things in regards to everything from the draft, to roster cuts, to signing UDFA's. And it changes those things in a very good way.

Just looked at the browns roster as listed on the team site...the drafted guys are listed...I counted 84 players, but may have counted 1 twice or missed 1....the point is we are pretty full....and I didn't really look to see if the UDFA players were listed...I just started counting without really reviewing names until I had to scroll the page.

They won't be listed until the Browns officially announce them.

A total of 259 players heard their name called from Thursday night to early Saturday evening. But the real flurry is underway as undrafted free agents sign with teams as they hope to earn roster spots.

Tre Harbison III, running back, Charlotte

The 5-foot-10, 221-pound Harbison tweeted that he will join the Browns. He had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Northern Illinois in 2018 and 2019 before grad transferring to Charlotte in 2020. He played in six games in 2020, getting 80 carries for 337 yards and four touchdowns.

Romeo McKnight, edge rusher, Illinois State
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound McKnight confirmed reports from earlier in the evening that he will be a Brown. In 2019, McKnight had 64 tackles, 16.5 of which were for a loss, 12 sacks, 10 quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles. He helped Illinois State reach the FCS quarterfinals before losing to eventual national champion North Dakota State.

Manny Rugamba, cornerback, Miami (Ohio)
Rugamba, who is 5-foot-11, 194 pounds, tweeted that he is joining the Browns as a UDFA. He was a third-team All-MAC selection each of the last two years and was part of a Miami (Ohio) team that won the MAC title in 2020. An Iowa transfer, Rugamba had 65 solo tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions and 11 pass breakups in two seasons with the Redhawks.

Kiondre Thomas, cornerback, Kansas State
Thomas, who is 6-foot, 186 pounds, spent most of his collegiate career at Minnesota before grad transferring to Kansas State for the 2020 season. He played in eight games and had 22 solo tackles and four pass breakups. His agent tweeted that he agreed to a deal with the Browns.

Wilson, who at one point was a potential first-round pick, confirmed that he is heading to the Browns. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Wilson is getting a hefty signing bonus for a UDFA. A former five-star prospect, Wilson’s stock had fallen off since the start of the 2020 season. The 6-foot-3, 319-pound Wilson had his best year in 2019 when he had five sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss for Florida State.

I'm not sure that I'm a fan of this move.
I *really* hope they've done their deep-dive level homework on this guy.

Bottom roster camp body. If he wins a spot, they'll let him know in no uncertain terms he can't screw up. JMHO.

What are the Browns going to do to address the Kicker Position.

There is nothing wrong with Parkey. His numbers were consistent with most other kickers in the league.

Sometimes there is a gap between reality and fan expectations.

I had some awareness of Marvin before the 2020 season. But being a Big 10 guy I did not give him a great amount of attention. I didn't think the Brown's interior DL was going to be turned over as it has been. Then Marvin fell off in 2020. From what I've learned the main problem has been injuries. Unspecified hand and leg injuries. No reports of anything that is career-threatening. So, the Browns signed him and I want to know more about the player he was before he got dinged up. If he gets healthy and returns to that form? Whoa!

That was fun to watch. Dude eats double teams. If he can keep his head together he might be a great rotation guy.

And Parkey if I recall had a much better 2nd half of the season that 1st. Seemed to settle down nicely. Anyway I deeply suspect he’ll have competition in camp regardless.

I heard that Jeremiah Pharmes is getting released from Prison,, Maybe we can bring him in.....

Honestly, This is one of those guys that has a very high upside,,, But his head needs to be screwed on tight... Otherwise, he'll be Camp Fodder.

For what it's worth, I'd be willing to bet his alleged inconsistent work ethic will get him bumped off the roster before he has a chance to get into trouble again.
