Trade him while his stock is high! We have team-friendly options on him for 2 years after this year - something like $13-14M per year, I think. Now would be the time to propose an additional 2-3 year extension, IMO. He's an elite level player.

Kluber did it. No hitter! I feel good for Klubot, he has had a terrible couple of years with injuries and having to re-invent his approach with the loss of velocity. Now he's got 2 Cy Youngs and a no-hitter. Although I HATE the Yankees, I hope he gets a ring before he hangs them up.

JMO, but it looks to me like Tristan McKenzie isn't ready for the big show yet. He needs another year in AAA, at least.

The Tribe faced Kenta Maeda today for the 2nd time this year. The first meeting was April 27. In that game Franmil Reyes lead off the 2nd inning and smoked the first pitch from Maeda for HR deep into the bleachers. Reyes again lead off the 4th and again smoked the first pitch right back to the mound where it hit the rubber and bounced softly into CF. Franimal again lead off the 6th. The first pitch from Maeda went even deeper into the bleachers, and more towards center. So that's 3 Maeda pitches; 2 HR and a single.
So today, after (intentionally?) plunking Ramirez with 2 outs in the 1st, the first pitch to Reyes... Four pitches, 4 hits, 3 HR!!!

I’ll own it, I didn’t think highly of this team off the bat.

Good news: Owen Miller will make his Major League debut. Bad news: Franmil Reyes is headed to the 10 day DL. https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2021/05/...nal-strain.htmlCLEVELAND, Ohio — After three weeks tearing up Triple-A pitching, Owen Miller will make his major league debut Sunday with the Cleveland Indians. Miller, 24, was added to the roster after the club placed Franmil Reyes on the 10-day injured list with a left abdominal strain. In a related move, the club shifted catcher Roberto Perez from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL following surgery on his right ring finger. The move freed up a spot on the 40-man roster for Miller. At Columbus, Miller was batting .406 (26-for-64) with five doubles, one triple, two home runs and nine RBI in 16 games. He stood second in Triple-A East Division in hits, third in average, tied for sixth in doubles and total bases (39) and ninth in on-base percentage and OPS. Miller made a positive impression on Indians manager Terry Francona in training camp where he hit .390 with a home run and six RBI in 24 exhibition appearances. “We told Owen, he looks to me like he can hit good pitching,” Francona said in March. ”He uses the whole field. He has a knack of being able to bring his hands in and keep the ball fair down the left field line. He’s just a really good hitter.” Cleveland acquired Miller last August from the San Diego Padres in the nine-player Mike Clevinger deal. He becomes the fourth member of that trade on the Indians active roster, joining Austin Hedges, Josh Naylor and Cal Quantrill. President of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said last week that Miller is capable of playing shortstop, but he is gaining confidence all around the diamond. “He would tell you, when we asked him in spring training, he felt his best positions were second base and third base,” Antonetti said. “Those were the places where he had spent the most time recently. So that’s why we started to mix shortstop and first base back into the fold to help his comfort there.” Reyes injured himself in Saturday’s 4-2 win against the Twins in the sixth inning on a swing against .Minnesota’s Jorge Alcala. It’s the first career trip to the injured list for Reyes.

Civale has been our ace this year, although 3 of his 7 wins have been against the lowly Tigers. But still, you can only play your schedule, and he has only had one bad start all year. Right now, the rotation is Bieber, Civale, and 3 question marks (Hentges, McKenzie, and somebody), and you wonder if maybe they would consider using Karinchak or Clase and trading for a MOR starter, especially considering how well Shaw and Wittgren have pitched in relief. I'd hate to see it, but it might be the only way to salvage the season.

You have JC Mejia who could also fill that role. That’s two right there, if Tristian goes back down after today. Then you have Moss and Allen at Triple A Definitely don’t mess with the rest of the relievers

Then you have Moss and Allen at Triple A Definitely don’t mess with the rest of the relievers It really depends on whether the Indians' FO believes they can contend this year. If they do, I don't think they believe they could do it with 2 Major League starters and 3 AAA starters. We've seen what McKenzie and Allen offer as starters - they're not ready. We haven't seen much of Mejia or any of Moss at the ML level. Quantrill has worked out of the bullpen and would need a couple weeks at AAA to "stretch out" before starting. On the other hand, Karinchak and Clase both have closer stuff, and Shaw has also flashed great stuff so far. It just makes sense to me that they should at least consider dealing from a strength to try and buttress a floundering starting rotation. We're going nowhere with only 2 legit major league starters. If Antonetti and Chernov don't believe we are legit contenders, then they should stand pat and develop the young starters. What they end up doing should tell us what they really think about the team's prospects of contending. JMO.

Always good stuff Dave. You do make good points.
My view, I just don’t see them doing that. It’s still early, and fully aware the season can be won/lost the first few months. But like your seeing with Jake Bauers, they’ll be patient and see what their guys and farm (the ones we’ve mentioned) can bring or have decent outings and bullpen can close it out 5th inning on.
The last few games I think it was Carl Willis that said they were letting McKenzie to learn on the fly in the bigs….I think they finally hit their breaking point (by sending him down, till Plesac was hurt a couple days later) as it looked like it was really getting to him mentally.
My opinion with that quote is if they are doing that, then they are in cruise control till All Star break. Then possibly make a small trade for a triple a player that is possibly blocked by someone at the major league level.
Key words I hear over and over from our announcers to Tito to our GM today on Drennan….”youngest team in baseball” and few other words about their adversity and being young. Just sounds to me they are prepping us if they go on a losing streak.
Other random thing: our schedule isn’t that bad coming up. We have a lot of series in the next month that we should win (ie, 2 series tigers, 2 series vs O’s, Seattle, Pirates, possible Twins and Cubs)

Indians' win over the Tigers today was win #700 here for Terry Francona, who is 3rd winningest manager in Indians' history behind Lou Boudreau (728) and Mike Hargrove (721). He should take the lead this year. Congrats to Tito.

I saw this article today. The best part is this... "There is no amount of Iron City beer, pierogis or Primanti Brothers sandwiches that will magically make any Yinzer feel better after this latest Pirates debacle. This is the worst thing to happen to the franchise since Barry Bonds gave Andy Van Slyke the finger right before Sid Bream slide in the 1992 NLCS. This was a defensive lapse some 31 years in the making and by god, was it glorious!"

Looking forward to next weekend. Next weekend is my annual (except for last year, lol) going to see the Tribe play at Camden Yards. They only play at Baltimore once per season (I hate that). So I’ve went three out of the past four years. I usually go up (I’m in DC) and watch 2 or 3 games of the series. I went in 2019, and saw us break a record! We were the first team ever to be shutout back to back nights by at least 13 runs, ugh. It’s a beautiful stadium, great place to see a ballgame. In the past, I usually get seats right behind the Tribe dugout or a row or two back the first night. The second night (and third if I go) I by a cheap seat ticket and hang out in the centerfield patio area. Fun area to just take in some of the game, the patio is higher up and you get an overall view of the whole stadium/area. Fun time to just watch some game, enjoy the stadium feel and bs with people. This will be my last Tribe/O’s/Camden experience for a long time (or ever) as I will move to my next duty station in September.

I wondered why they banged the game yesterday when the rain had stopped and high winds had mostly subsided. They scheduled a Sunday doubleheader when they already had one scheduled for Monday? Then I remembered the new 7 inning rule for doubleheaders. The Indians get to play 4 games in 28 innings instead of 36, saving the already overworked bullpen 8 innings of work. Side note: I just heard on the radio that the Indians will be the first team in MLB history to play five 7-inning games in a row.

The Indians aren't a good enough hitting team to be this bad defensively. Outfield defense has been brutal, as well as 1B play. And now today, 2B Cesar Hernandez has 2 errors. Its hard to watch this team.

Great game to listen to Hammy on the call on the way home from my youngest son's baseball game. Karinchak nearly threw up on himself again. Got Abreu to ground out to end it with the bases juiced.
Full (I should have that in quotes) stadium tomorrow!

I don't know where to put this, general comment. I know that the MLB, the NBA, and the NFL for that matter don't care what I think, (nor all board members.) I used to think, the reason I left ever watching even 5 minutes a year, (seriously) of Major League Baseball in the time frame of 1995-2003, to ever again, was that the stories were all about what happened off the field in baseball, and steroids, and hating on Pete Rose though I hate him too, and having 162 games means the games don't individually have any significance, also that the strategy was all taken away, (tell ya what, I don't miss it, it surprises me how much I don't miss baseball, about the same as criqet, a british game I never learned.) I recently noticed, there was another Huge Reason There was a debate about whether a pitcher should hit a batter with a pitch because somebody stared at a home run on the radio I was hearing, before I turned it off, That kind of thing, will drive me, (Expletative baseball!) away, well it has... but now, There is a current events story I'm refusing to watch about fan behavior at NBA basketball games, which is also nothing to be advertising. It's the kind of thing that will / has driven me to watch, Soccer Hockey, and Forms of auto racing as my 2nd favorite sport in a given year, behind all forms of Football. (Quality Football, no XFl or arena ball.) of course. At least it's like, I'm here to watch the game not some hate filled drama I can get Drama' on "the peoples court" show. It doesn't matter what I think.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
