Pompeo: Fauci Has Major Questions to Answer Over Emails
By Sandy Fitzgerald
03 June 2021
Dr. Anthony Fauci has a lot of questions to answer after a trove of emails points to further evidence that the coronavirus pandemic was the result of a leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday.
"We knew that the evidence was accumulating, was piling up that the wet market [theory] didn’t hold water and that the much more likely scenario was that this had come from the virology lab in Wuhan," Pompeo, now a Fox News contributor, said on "Fox and Friends."
And now, President Joe Biden must demand that answers come about the Wuhan laboratory, which is still operating.
There are also major questions about EcoHealth President Peter Daszak after his name popped up in one of Fauci's emails.
Daszak, a British disease expert, and Fauci had exchanged messages, with Fauci thanking the zoologist for commending him for publicly dismissing the theory that the coronavirus had leaked from the Wuhan lab.
EcoHealth was the company that had forwarded grant money it got from the National Institutes of Health to the Wuhan lab.
Fauci called the controversy about his emails with Daszak "nonsense" and insisted he still believes the COVID-19 pandemic began with the virus transferring from an animal species to a human, but that he's got an "open mind" that a lab leak could be at fault.
Daszak, the only American who was part of the World Health Organization's delegation that visited China to investigate the origins of the virus in January and February, said the U.S. should accept WHO's preliminary conclusion that it was "highly unlikely the lab was involved."
Daszak, said Pompeo, has "dirty hands."
"He was involved in this laboratory," said Pompeo. "There was taxpayer money that was funneled all through an alliance that he was responsible for. He was one of the lead investigators that was sent in to look at this. There’s a lot of questions to be answered. I think Dr. Fauci has a lot of questions to answer."
Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party is refusing to say what it knows, said Pompeo.
"We must know how the U.S. government, how Dr. Fauci, Daszak, all the folks that were underwriting this laboratory, what they knew, when they knew it because this will help us answer the important questions that will keep us all safe," he added.
Meanwhile, Pompeo said that many of the emails, coming while the "Chinese were covering this up" in January 2020, were at a time when Fauci "certainly would have seen the same intelligence that I saw."
"We would certainly have known that the risk this came from the laboratory was real and the Chinese Communist Party didn't want any of us to know that," said Pompeo. "That raised red flags throughout the entire United States government for far too long."
And Fauci allowed the people in the Trump administration who were talking about the impending pandemic to "carry the mantel" when they "couldn't get science," complained Pompeo.
"We got politics instead and that's what you saw on the left-wing media," he said. "Politics was trumping science and that delayed our capacity to respond to what the Chinese Communist Party put upon the world."
Rand Paul reacts to thousands of Fauci emails showing he’s a fraud with 2 words and an emoji

Senator Rand Paul was not surprised at the content of thousands of Dr. Fauci’s emails obtained in a “Freedom of Information Act” request by BuzzFeed News and the Washington Post. He had the perfect response in reaction to the development.
He tweeted: “Told you. #firefauci.” And then added: “Can’t wait to see the media try to spin the Fauci FOIA emails.” Paul has been relentless in calling out Fauci for his flip-flopping concerning his stances on the pandemic. The trove of emails bolsters Paul’s accusations against Fauci but the media is still spinning him as a hero.
Why the hell does it really matter where covid-19 originated UNLESS it was weaponized for a direct attack? Also, if it was weaponized why the hell would they release it where it was made? And if it did come from a lab, which currently I think is BS, if it was an accident, then it was an accident. Anyone who thinks we don't spend a ton of dark money researching the weaponization of the deadliest things we can think up or find is a fool. Of course anything can happen when humans are involved, so I won't deny a lab leak is plausible; but what are we going to do if we PROVE it came from a lab? Start a war with China? Sanction them? Call it Kung Flu like a moron?
This coming up again just as things heated up about the January 6th insurrection and GOPers blocking a true investigation is suspect as hell to me. I think it's a distraction, but even if I'm wrong it's still pretty much pointless other than knowing the truth. But at this point, I don't think we'll ever know anything for certain.
I also love how GOPers are focusing on Fauci's emails, it feels like Benghazi all over again to me. Meanwhile they are still covering for Trump's crimes and ignoring all the real problems in America. I'm so sick of these people and their adolescent brain functions being stuck on stupid. Nobody blames Trump for the virus coming to our shores, we blame him for his lies, deceit, and crap management of the situation that cost almost 600,000 American lives... Wake me up when you have proof that China deliberately attacked the whole world and you can prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Trump and Pompeo were right when they claimed to have seen proof it was a lab leak (not an attack but an accident). I mean why didn't they just share the facts, provable facts, immediately at that time instead of seeming like they were just telling yet another of the thousands of lies we listened to for four years? We all knew that Trump wanted to deflect any blame that might fall on him, because that's what he does and did time and time again. So why would this be any damn different?
I mean I agree with what Berman said in the Haberman interview on CNN about it being important to understand where and how covid-10 began. Although that truth does not change one thing about the end results of Trump's handling of the pandemic or the 2020 election, what the Chinese knew and when they knew it, where we are with the pandemic today both medically and politically, or what anyone will do if it was from a lab. Seriously, I see GOPers pushing this like it somehow redeems Trump, which it most certainly doesn't. Even though I see the needs medically and scientifically for the truth to emerge from all the muddied waters, I don't see how it changes anything in our current relationship with China or who would/could benefit politically if the lab leak was true. Biden certainly won't take any hits and if Trump had any hard evidence he should have shared it rather than let this be played as yet another self-serving lie.
But the thing that is totally irking me right now is the demonization of Fauci. His emails... GOPers have called him everything under the sun over wearing masks and being locked down but as far as I can discern his entire job is based on his life experience and taking the information known at any instance and making an educated guess as to the course of action. So I'm thinking Fauci did his job and did it well. Yes, I know the right is saying he flip flopped like he was doing something dubious, but as new information was accumulated and the best minds the world has in the field discussed it all, course corrections were needed... but again educated guesswork. So in reality, Fauci did his job here too. The hate for Fauci is mostly based on the Trump's rants against him. It all seems like a purposeless attack on a man who served admirably and regardless of rather he made mistakes, he seems to have done the best that any expert in the field could have done in identical situations. Pompeo nailed it when he suggested that we got politics instead of science, but putting any of that on the left is ridiculous because Trump and the GOP had power in DC, and Trump stuck with Fauci even while treating the man like garbage... so he must have been the best or only choice.
Fish, Rand Paul acting like an arrogant idiotic imbecile is not news. And neither are all the things Trump says about Fauci. What the real news here is, is the possibility that the lab leak was plausible and the way the Trump administration handled it caused it to be overlooked as propaganda up to this point. Yet now we might find out it was true and the ineptness of all things Trumpian has struck once again. Pompeo thought he was shifting blame and saving face in all of this but he just basically said they were inept idiots proving my point.
If your news sources were worth a damn, they would have done a little digging.
LOL ... so YOUR news sources were better right? Because they did some digging and found, oh hang on, no they didn't did they.
Truth is that the overwhelming opinion of experts at the time was that a genetically engineered virus was unlikely. That still seems to be the most likely truth - but people want to investigate and be sure. It helps to know how the virus came to be and natural vs engineered makes a difference.
By all means paint Fauchi as the Boogeyman. Use it to try to continue the narrative that the liberal media is bad and the Faux News outlets of the world are good.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Hold on... You think a possible lab leak -- that infected hundreds of millions and killed nearly 4 MILLION PEOPLE, is a distaction??? A distraction from our focus of playing "who ordered the code red" with Trump instead??
And then, a-ha, it's the way the Trump admin handled the idea that caused it to be overlooked as propaganda.
Gotcha.
Did you ever consider a life in politics? I think you would do well.
Trying to figure out the origin of a global pandemic that has significantly affected everyone on the planet and killed almost 4 million people seems pretty important to be able to prevent it from happening again...
I've always felt it was perfectly plausible that it came from a lab... I don't think it was intentional, but would not be surprised if it accidentally started from a lab exposure.... however it started it's important to know to be able to prevent it from happening again
I also agree with you that we should be investigating how Jan 6th happened... for the same reason, we need to know the origins and how it happened to help ensure that doesn't happen again... it was despicable...
Trying to figure out the origin of a global pandemic that has significantly affected everyone on the planet and killed almost 4 million people seems pretty important to be able to prevent it from happening again...
Especially since the lab in question was working with different versions of covid strains and basically "cross breeding" them to try to make them more infectious -- and LYING about it all.
Especially since early sequences of covid-19 appear to be pre-adapted to human transmission.
Especially since the scientific community showed it's true colors by rallying around a theory that they knew was possibly b.s... and chastised and black-listed those that didn't toe the line.
Especially since leaders at the top of that food chain reacted in kind.
And especially, maybe even more especially, since, once again, the leaders forcing the narrative were more worried about money and funding than anything else. OUR taxpayer money going to a DIRTY CHINESE LAB with a untrustworthy, lying, pos in charge.
Yeah, it's important. It's not "oh well, it happened". It wasn't a car crash -- it was (and still is) a global pandemic.
How people can excuse all this, on one hand, then cry about someone not wearing a mask as "trying to kill grandma", is absolutely ludicrous.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
“It was just trying to get the right information, to try and get the right data. What they didn’t seem to understand, I guess that it is understandable that they didn’t understand it, is that science is a dynamic process,” continued Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert.
That's right Tony... pat us on the head and tell us we're to stooopid to understand. Hide behind "science", the same science you ignored and chastised. YOU ignored all the evidence, early on in the process, that pointed to the fact that there was a distinct possibility this came from a lab... That this wasn't a virus that had to do the hard work of working through species before it infected humans, that it may have been engineered and pre-packaged for human consumption.
What a dolt.
Our scientific community is trash, and they prove it - time after time. It's always about self-serving interests, money and power... and very seldom about "science". People at the top create narrative and expect everyone to stand in lockstep, if not, no more $$$ for you. Anyone who questions "science" is made out to be a tin-foil madman.
"Trust the science" has moved one step closer to being a punchline rather than an intelligent approach to anything. WE can't trust the science, it's been infiltrated with a virus of it's own.
Especially since the scientific community showed it's true colors by rallying around a theory that they knew was possibly b.s... and chastised and black-listed those that didn't toe the line.
I get some of the hyperbole over the emails. If you want to you can read them in a certain light and say they sound sinister and/or corrupt. The right wing media are certainly on full tilt regards to that angle.
However - I don't for one second believe "the science community" has some secret agenda driven to hide truth, deviate from science, and deliberately mislead the public. I don't believe the hundreds of thousands of scientists and doctors GLOBALLY came to a consensus opinion because of a mass mandate to ... what? Oust Trump? Kill people? Protect China? Protect the USA's reputation (because they were funding the Lab?) ....
Sorry. Not buying it.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
"the science community" has some secret agenda driven to hide truth
Agreed. I think that is too broad a stroke. But there are bad apples among them, particularly in the political arena and other scientists in the "community" were cancelled simply for raising questions or bringing up other issues.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
Any walk of life there are those without principal - ready to lie and manipulate. And I have no doubt it happened here too - and I don't think we'll ever actually get the whole truth from China. And I think when money and private company's profits and politics combine like this over such an enormous issue? It's a recipe for conspiracy theories, misinformation and lots of division.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I knew this BS was coming. It's the Trumpian way....
Trump's new Hillary: Conservatives launch war on Fauci ahead of revived MAGA rallies
President Trump plans to make Anthony Fauci a top target at upcoming rallies, using increased attention to the Wuhan lab-leak theory as a weapon against an official long viewed as more trustworthy.
Why it matters: Trump and conservative media have made Fauci an improbable face of the opposition, trying to give him the cartoon-villain status once accorded to former Sen. Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, or — in Trump’s case — Hillary Clinton.
Trump amped up his longtime Fauci rants yesterday in a statement calling for COVID reparations from China:
"The correspondence between Dr. Fauci and China speaks too loudly for anyone to ignore. China should pay Ten Trillion Dollars to America, and the World, for the death and destruction they have caused!"
What we’re hearing: Look for Trump to light into Fauci tomorrow during dinner remarks to North Carolina annual Republican convention, in Greenville — Trump’s second big speech, after CPAC, since leaving office.
Jason Miller, Trump’s senior adviser, told Axios the base has a "visceral" reaction to Fauci: "People see Anthony Fauci and they think of shuttered businesses, lost school."
The big picture: Fox News' prime-time stars are amping up their Fauci rants based on new questions about COVID’s origins.
“[A]ll the smirking morons in the American news media changed their view completely overnight,” Tucker Carlson said last night, 24 hours after saying Fauci should be criminally investigated.
"LORD FAUCI EXPOSED," said one Tucker graphic. Another dubbed him "Lord Fauci, Patron Saint Of Wuhan."
Sean Hannity jumped the gun last night with a graphic calling new revelations "the FALL of FAUCI."
Reality check: The theory most experts still believe to be most likely is that the virus was transmitted from a bat to some other species of animal, then to humans. That’s what happened with plenty of other viruses.
But it hasn’t been proven. A cadre of experts — and now the Biden administration — are calling for a more thorough investigation into the possibility that the virus infected workers studying it at a Wuhan lab, who then infected others.
Fauci himself told the Financial Times (subscription) that China should release the medical records of nine people whose illnesses could provide vital clues into whether COVID resulted from a lab leak.
"I have always felt that the overwhelming likelihood — given the experience we have had with SARS, MERS, Ebola, HIV, bird flu, the swine flu pandemic of 2009 — was that the virus jumped species," Fauci said. "But we need to keep on investigating until a possibility is proven."
Fauci dismissed the idea that the NIH might bear any responsibility for the pandemic, telling the FT: "Are you really saying that we are implicated because we gave a multibillion-dollar institution $120,000 a year for bat surveillance?"
What's next: Trump plans a pair of rallies just before July 4. Look for Trump to try to make Fauci a punching bag.
They have to have a boogeyman. They've finally figured out that time has expired on Hillary who they investigated over and over again only to find nothing.
Somehow they've latched on to a "possibility" that Covid "may not" have been started by an animal and they're latching on tight even though the scientific community still strongly believes it originated with an animal.
If only they were this dedicated to getting to the bottom of Jan. 6th. But that's only an insurrection that tried to overthrow our elections.

You know what would happen if they got hold of someone close to Trump released all their emails and there was a bunch of questionable content ... there'd be an outcry that someone's email had been illegally breached and info shared. That's how many of them roll.

They're everywhere. All one needs to do is look. But I understand you're not into that.
Just watch and pay attention. It's obvious as noted in the article that FOX News is already doing it and it only took a day for the Trump minions on this board to follow suit.
You argue the source but can't argue watching what the source said unfold in front of your own face.

Sounds good. I'll look up some more entertainment columns and see what I find. And yes, people questioning Fauci (regardless of party) is something new and only now being brought up as a boogeyman. Jesus.

Rent free would be covering up for him and worshiping him like the party you support is doing. But you already know this. You just try to use cheap deflection with no substance.

Fauci getting that Hillary Clinton treatment from the right.
Which means nothing happened and they just need more red meat for their vulture-like base.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I think I have mentioned on here before that I have some past experience in understanding the science behind analyzing protein and DNA sequences to understand origins of proteins, and I mentioned back in July that there are very suspicious patterns that call a natural origin into question.
That being said, I don't think it is fair in anyway to demonize Fauci for his stance on masks or the virus origins, even if those stances has changed over time. I legitimately think that he is doing the absolute best job that he can. It is not an easy job and not something that anyone could ever be prepared for.
Did he downplay the lab-origin possibilities? absolutely. Was he wrong to do so? Maybe not so much. If any public figure rushes to judgement in support of a natural origin and then turn out to be wrong, the damage is limited. If, on the other hand, they had prematurely supported a lab-origin theory and turned out to be wrong, the geo-political consequences are much greater.
Why the hell does it really matter where covid-19 originated UNLESS it was weaponized for a direct attack?
Good question.
It matters because we are lucky that this virus was not as infectious as it was but as deadly as SARS or MERS. That would have been much worse.
Also, Coronavirus research is going to be like AIDS research in the 90s. Funding for this type of research is going to be 100X what it was in 2019 and research on Coronaviruses will become more attractive to your most ambitious and sometimes most reckless researchers. We will never fully prove the origin of this virus, but we need to better understand the risks posed by both nature and lab research. If the risks posed by the lab research are greater than the natural risks that the research mitigates, then it would be foolish to incentivize furthering this type of research, specifically research that creates new, more dangerous viruses.
If you actually read what he said - which was essentially "it needs to be investigated" - I don't disagree.
What you also see is various experts saying there is no indication the virus was engineered - which was the prevailing opinion of most experts and still is.
As for what posts social media took down? There is a tremendous difference between saying "it deserves to be investigated" and what I saw/heard/read at the time from some sources - that this WAS an engineered Virus - it DID come from a a Lab in China - It was an ATTACK on the USA and the ROTW. . . . none of those things is true/factual and should be removed. Just like the lies about a stolen election. Of course - trying to make it seem like they have been cancelled by the evil media is part of the game.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
It matters now because we've gotten our COVID situation pretty much under control. New cases and infection rates are falling (and continuing to fall), vaccines largely seem to be effective (hopefully full approval is on the way). So it's important to go back and review/investigate to gain a better understanding of what happened in order to improve our own defenses and hold people/orgs accountable, as needed. For the most part, digging into this wasn't as important when we were being overrun with cases.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
I agree to the point that scientifically and medically we REALLY needs to know. But then I see the political hate for the other targeting the Chinese in a yet to be proven blame game AND the acts of hate toward our own asian population and I can't help but wonder how important it is to know at all.
