Man this story is so bad I have a hard time believing it could or would happen to anyone let alone me!

For over a decade I had severe pain issues when I got up in the morning, I had to just get moving and I would shake the morning pain. It was a running joke for me to tell people I would never retire because the moment I stopped moving I feared rigor mortis would set in.

Then back about late March I woke up and this time there would be no walking it off. I had pain shooting thru my right foot and leg that felt like someone was driving nails thru me. Yeah it was that bad.

I should mention that for years now I have dreamt of the Browns bringing home the Lombardi before I die. Along with watching my daughters graduate from college that was me dream.

I went and practically had to beg my Dr. for pain meds he finally relented and gave me pain medication and ordered an MRI. I made an appointment with an orthopedic Dr. the same one who had performed surgery on my neck about 5 years ago.

The orthopedic surgeon offered one solution to fuse my spine at S1-L5. Most of the pain I had was nerve pain that hasn't changed the nerves are very damaged and nerves heal at their own pace.

The Saturday before I was to have surgery to repair my back I got up and like everyone else I started the day by peeing. When I peed blood was coming out with my urine. So off to the ER I went. They found a growth in my bladder and hooked me up with a urologist for Monday. The urologist ran a scope up my pee hole and said that I had cancer in my bladder. I was devastated, but the Dr. made it sound like no big deal he would scrape the growth from my bladder and the cancer would be gone. No big deal.

I had my back surgery and everything went well with that but I was left with damaged nerves that would take time to heal and re-route themselves. I have better range of motion now then I have had in decades, but the damaged nerves remained and so I still had the pain.

Two weeks after I had my back repaired I was once again in surgery this time to scrape the cancer out of my bladder. That all went well however, the pathology report came back saying the cancer was in the muscle tissue and because of that I would have to have my bladder removed.

As luck would have it my sister who is a Anesthesiologists and who for decades worked at Sloan Kettering in NYC knew quite well probably the best Urologist in the country if not the world. So I went off to see Dr Bochmen and he said my bladder would have to be removed but that he would make me a new bladder (Neobladder) from my small intestine, so while the news was bad there was hope. It would take about a year but I would make a full recovery and all would be well.

I was set for surgery for June 29th, then Sunday night while preparing for bed I suddenly experienced huge chest pain and had the wife call an ambulance. Yup, I had a heart attack. They put a stent in my heart and all is well with my heart now. But this meant no surgery to remove my bladder, all testing for surgery was canceled and to date a new plan has not yet been put in place it will take 6-12 weeks for my heart to heal and until it is healed no surgery.

So here we are on the verge of one of my dreams coming true and I may not make it that long. My home is a sad place we are all trying to keep a positive attitude and I have left it to my wife to deal with my appointments, Dr., treatments going forward. I can't even begin to tell you all how much time and effort has gone into trying to save my life and to make life worth even living and now this.

I am going to fight this with all I got I want to see that Lombardi in Cleveland and I still want to see my daughters graduate from college, but man it sure doesn't look good. Say a prayer for me guys I need them.

Damn bro, you've got a fight on your hands. You're tough, we know that just from the fact that you've stood behind this team for so long.

Just know this -- you've got an army of dawgs behind YOU. Prayer Warriors, well-wishers, positive energy and the kind of grit it takes to laugh in the face of adversity. That's who we are, that's who you are.

FIGHT... and don't give up. We need you here on that day. That's what will make it so special, having all who navigated these waters celebrate together.

Lastly, and I know it's easier said than done, see your AKA and be Upbeat, Dawg! You know your inspiration -- hold it tightly and it will heal that heart!

I believe that the Lord hears the prays of those who call upon His name fervently, and I pray for healing for you.

I am also thinking that perhaps the Lord was watching out for you when you had your heart attack, because I would think that it is possible that had you gone into surgery and had a heart problem then, you might not be here afterwards. Sometimes God does things for our good, for reasons we just can't see.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Man I hate to hear this! I have to agree with YTown. Had you have had the bladder surgery with a major underlying heart issue, that could have been a worse case scenario.

We're all on your side with this. We're all here for you. You certainly have the thoughts and prayers of my family and myself. If there's anything I can do or if you just need to chat, PM me. You have been among us for so very long now I'm sure many of us, including myself, would do anything we could to help avoid losing you.

Man, what a rough go. There's nothing to do but just keep going, though! Just stay focused on the thing you need to focus on and trust that the rest will fall into place.... just worry about that next step, man.

I'll definitely keep ya in my prayers; you need to be here in February, and the next couple of Februaries after that.

I just had a crystophy procedure. It was to see if I was a candidate for a urolift procedure.

They found diverticula in the bladder. I have to urinate way to often. The urologist reffered me to a nuerologist. I have not yet done that.

Nothing like what you are going through but at 73 anything can lead to another thing.

It sounds like once the heart is healed you can go forward with the bladder removal? Are you taking drugs to treat the cancer?

Staying positive is the best strategy.

Your first sentence kind of says it all.

Easy to write but try to focus on anything positive.

The Browns are a good release. And we got a shot at it.

Sometimes that is all it takes. Take that with you.

You know that you have an entire community here that wishes nothing but the best for you.

What a sequence of events. I can totally understand your current mood/mindset. You've been dealt a lot in a very short time.

It sounds like you're in the best of hands, as goes your medical care. That's a positive to hang onto. I hope a new plan gets put in place soon, as that can give you focus and purpose. I keep hearing how important such non-med things can be.

Wishing you all the best, now - and going forward.

Praying for you right now my friend. I'm glad you let us all know about your health problems. We may be a very Dysfunctional family around here fighting like cats and dogs at times, but this board is filled with so many wonderful, thoughtful, and loving members that it's a blessing to be part of this family.

Nerve pain ... check (I wouldn't wish it on any living soul)
Heart problems ... check
cancer ... check

I feel your pain brother, and understand where your coming from. Don't give up, continue to fight, claw, scratch, and pray. Many of us care about you and wish we could take your pain, doubt, and worries away, even if we know we can't. What we can do is let you know we care, and that we are here to support you.

Facing our mortality changes us. It makes you enjoy life more. It makes you realize that you don't want to waste a minute of it as it is just so fleeting. Our lives would be so much more fulfilling if we realized that at a young age.

Hang in there and keep fighting the fight. I am living proof that the odds can be beaten and have experienced the joys of two granddaughters being born since I was told I would be gone already. Like you I want to see the Browns win the Superbowl before I go, and to see my grandkids graduate before I head home to be with the Lord. Hang in there and I hope you know you can reach out to me anytime if you want to talk, or just want to vent. I am all ears bro, and I understand the feeling's your having right now.

Sorry to hear about the problems my friend.

Prayers are sent.

You have more control over this than you might feel right now. Stay positive, and remember the dream. You said we would win it before you die.

Well, we haven't won it yet, so your dream means you aren't going anywhere just yet.

Chin up.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

BTTB...man, that is a bunch of "stuff" for anyone to be dealing with and at the same time.

I do understand your dreams...because I have had some of the same dreams myself.

As for support, anytime you might need to discuss something, feel free to lean on your fellow Dawg.
