I was just wondering why my post count never increases. I've been on these boards since the original "Dawg Talk". When the boards left the official site, I had to change my screen name, but have had the same one now for years. It really doesn't mean anything to me, but I am curious why. I have seen posters who have joined years after I have, reach "hall of Famer" and "legend" status, while I have remained the same and my post count hasn't moved from 1300 or so for years.

It's not that I need a higher status, just curious as to why.

You're at 1310 now. Post again. We'll see if it goes to 1311.

I posed two in a row earlier, and both were numbered 1309. Like I said, it really don't matter, but I was curious. I mean, I have been posting for years, and 1300 seems very low considering I am usually on here once a day, almost everyday of the year

Anyway, like I said, I was just curious.

Well, the number was incorrect, but apparently, it was too high.

I just had the site re-calc all user post counts, and you are at 1308 as of this moment.

I remember Steubenvillian from many years of reading this site, and over the years, I remember 2 times where things had to be reset, and I'm just happy to have a place to vent, and that they allow someone like me to take part.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I agree. It really doesn't mean that much, like I said, I was just curious. When the board reset years ago, I had several thousand. But like you said, I am just glad to be part of the community.

Someone deleted my account at one point and I lost over 20,000 posts and had to start over.

Your post count is always the current count, not the count at the time of that post.

So two in a row count as one?

No, all 1316 posts show you as having 1316 posts.
The first post you ever made doesn't say you have 1 post. So, even if you made 6 posts in a row, when you check them, all six will always show the same - current - post count.

So two in a row count as one?

Not exactly. It seems to work like,
When a post count goes from 400 to 401, all the previous 399 posts, and the most recent two, change the displayed post count from 400 to 401 when reviewing any of those 401 posts,
and then making an additional post would have all the posts including the new one change to display a post count of 402,
and an additional post would then change all 403 posts to read a post count of 403, and so on.

I think that explains it.

What might need to be pondered is what happens to deleted posts or edited posts? Does that impact the previous posts? I have never gone back to review any of those.

Also, if you quoted one of my posts, that means my post is posted a second time, so would that add to my post count? I have never checked in to that either.

Nope. I just edited this post and the post count seems to be the same, unless there is some sort of lag since Purp indicated there is some sort of lag as to when the post count is recalculated. It didn't sound like it was done in real time.

Deleted posts are deleted from the post count.

I wish I would gave never brought it up. My silly curiosity got the best of me. I did notice though, that those making the snide remarks are "legends"

I'm out

LOL....Yeah, guess it didn't come out like what was in my head. But others have since explained it with more detail, that ALL one's posts will show the same number regardless of how old the post is or what one's post count was at the time they made that past post.
