oh man... after reading up on this delta variant the last few days and how it is spreading, I can see us back in total lockdown by mid October if things don't change soon. We could be there faster than that if it continues hitting the south the way it is now or worse.

I certainly hope I'm wrong because we've all had enough of quarantine to last us a lifetime.

I’ve been pondering that, too. Strong words from the Alabama governor on that front as well. I don’t know if I’d play the blame game like she is, but I can empathize with her frustration.

Missouri AG Schmitt to file lawsuit Monday on St. Louis returning to mask mandate

JEFFERSON, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced Friday night that he will be filing a lawsuit Monday to stop the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County from bringing back a mask mandate.

“The citizens of St. Louis and St. Louis County are not subjects, they are free people,” Schmitt said in a tweet Friday night.

St. Louis City and County announced it will require masks to be worn in indoor public places and on public transportation beginning Monday. The new health order will require everyone age five and over, including those who are vaccinated, to wear a mask. Wearing masks outdoors, especially in group settings, will be strongly encouraged.

A statement from the St. Louis Mayor’s office says that there are some exceptions in the new health orders. They include people who are seated in a restaurant or bar eating and drinking and individuals with disabilities that prevent them from putting on or removing face coverings.

The announcement about the upcoming health orders did not include specifics relating to social distancing, education, business regulations, or sports. More details are expected after the official orders are issued next week.

As the delta variant of COVID-19 makes its way through the Kansas City area, the region’s medical leaders appear to be on the verge of calling for new mask mandates. According to the Kansas City Star, Dr. Steve Stites, chief medical officer at the University of Kansas Health System, says that region is seeing a big increase in patients and is “in trouble.”

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services issued a warning this week for counties along the Interstate 44 corridor. COVID-19 cases are surging in the southwest and central parts of the state due to the Delta variant, and the virus will likely move east toward St. Louis.

Greene County, Missouri, has become a national hotspot for COVID cases over the past three weeks, with the Delta variant driving the resurgence of the virus. The delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 spreads more easily and poses a higher risk of hospitalization.

Approximately 2.48 million people have completed the vaccination process in Missouri; 57.3% of all adults 18 years of age and older have initiated the process. The highest vaccination rates are among people over 65.

JMHO, I live in Florida, our Gov is leading the nation in don't use masks....everything is open. Fact, my granddaughter's summer camp just got cancelled because five people came down with covid.
Impact- she loses her camp....but an outside camp mostly gets cancelled....sorry, folks, gear up, things are going to get real nasty....don't get vaccinated or use a mask, my daughter, 40s still has heart issues from covid her husband brought home from contractor work.....life going back to normal....not. Go Browns!!!

That's why I posted the link. People think because a few have that it reflects poorly on the vaccines, but the numbers are well in line with expected results. Yes fully vaccinated people are getting covid but the vaccines are keeping them out of the hospital in almost 100% of cases. Article is a good read.

If someone who reads "90% effective" and then balks when there are isolated reports of breakthrough infections... I'm not sure there's hope for a constructive conversation there.


Now let's say there's a spike in breakthrough infections that can be traced back to something like a bad vaccine batch (for example).... that could be an indicator of poor or misunderstood manufacturing processes. That is a conversation worth having (IMO).

Breakthrough cases are still falling in effectiveness levels of the vaccine when they where approved for emergency use by the FDA

97% of the current cases who are now hospitalized are not vaccinated.

Huntington Beach restaurant known for ignoring COVID precautions now calls for only unvaccinated diners

When restaurants across California halted indoor dining as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in March 2020, Basilico’s Pasta e Vino in Huntington Beach continued to welcome patrons.

When officials issued an order for establishments to mandate face coverings to stem the spread of the virus, the Orange County eatery declared itself a mask-free zone and required that diners remove them before entering.

This week, the Italian restaurant issued another decree: Proof of being unvaccinated is required for entry.

House Republicans rage and disobey return of mask mandate: ‘Absolutely absurd’

Republican lawmakers on Wednesday protested against the House floor mask mandate being reinstituted the previous evening, with several members of the minority party refusing to wear a face covering and Texas Rep. Chip Roy using a legislative delay tactic to show discontent.

"I can't execute my constitutional duty unless I wear a mask. Well, which is it? Vaccines or masks? The vaccines work or they don't work. Do the masks work, or they don't work?” Roy said in an impassioned speech on the House floor Wednesday referencing Dr. Anthony Fauci, a Biden administration COVID-19 point man. “I'd like to know which it is. I'd like Dr. Fauci to come down and answer a single question about natural immunity.”

Following updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance that recommends vaccinated people should wear masks in some situations, the Congress’s attending physician brought back the requirement that lawmakers wear masks on the House floor. Members who refuse risk fines being taken out of their congressional salaries because of a rule adopted in January, with $500 for a first offense of not wearing a mask and $2,500 for a second offense.

In a display of civil disobedience, a number of members opted to risk the fine and declined to wear a mask, even when offered one by a staff member walking around the floor who offered disposable masks and wrote on a notepad after interactions with those who refused.

Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert reportedly threw a mask back at a staff member when asked to put one on. Other Republicans who declined to wear masks, in addition to Roy, included Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Mary Miller of Illinois, and Burgess Owens of Utah.

This is not the first time that House Republicans protested the rule by going maskless on the floor. About a dozen Republicans, including many of the same members, revolted in May after the House declined to immediately lift its mask mandate after a change in CDC guidance. Many of those were subsequently fined, and the masking requirement was not lifted until nearly a month later.

In another act of defiance, Roy called a motion to adjourn the House, which triggered an unexpected roll call vote.

The same legislative move was previously used by Roy in February to protest before Democrats voted to strip Greene of her committees in order to protest. And by multiple times Greene in protest of various Democratic bills. Those uses frustrated Democrats and some Republicans due to it disrupting other scheduled activities during the day, such as meetings or hearings, but Roy’s move took place right before other scheduled votes.

Roy’s motion failed 225-197, with seven Republicans voting with Democrats.

Democrats scoffed at Republicans’ objections to the mandate’s return. Asked about Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s argument that the mask mandate return does not follow the science, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called McCarthy a “moron.”

Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan said in a tweet that “listening to Republicans cry about masks is like listening to babies cry about wearing diapers.” Democratic California Rep. Jared Huffman reportedly got in a shouting match with Republican Rep. Byron Donalds outside the House floor over Donalds not wearing a mask.

Roy shot back at a tweet from Michigan Rep. Rashida Talib accusing Republicans of wanting to quit working: “America is better off if we adjourn" because Democrats could harm the country.

McCarthy blasted Pelosi's comment calling him a moron.

“If she's so brilliant, can she tell me where the science in the building changes between the House and the Senate? Can she explain to me, when the CDC says only vaccinated people need to wear a mask of hot spots? Can she explained to me if D.C. is a hot spot, when it’s clarified by everyone else it's not with more than 86% of vaccination within here?” McCarthy told reporters. “If she knows so much science, explain to me where the science changes in the Rotunda.”

"We have a crisis at our border, and we're playing footsie with mask mandates in the people's house," Roy said in his floor speech. “It’s absolutely absurd what this body is doing. It’s an embarrassment. It’s a mockery. And the American people are fed up. They want to go back to life. They want to go back to business. They want to go back to school without their children being forced to wear masks.”

Well, I know that the vaccines work based on the data. I also know that masks are effective based on the data. I also know that doing neither and acting as though COVID doesn't exist does, in fact, not work.

Essentially, what is going on here is mandates and guidance that say "Hey, we're all at more risk now because COVID is surging, so let's undergo protective measures again."

The radical Republican response: "No!"

It's honestly childish. I feel like all Pelosi needs to do is pass a mandate that says "Absolutely no masks for anyone." That radical wing would come back the next day in HAZMAT suits.

It's kind of a good analogy when you think about it. The only people who are whining about it are the people that need to be wearing them the most.

Honestly, though, I do feel like it is starting to get to the point where the vaccinated and everyone who has followed protocol and done their best to stop the virus is justified in their outright frustration at the people who have not done their part.

I think it's time for Biden to mandate that only registered democratic voters be allowed the vaccine. Then we'll see the conservative militias and their Karens storming state capitals DEMANDING they get their vaccines.

Yep, treat them like bad children and use reverse psychology... Or just use tranq darts with the vaccine... I'm not overly worried about the unvaccinated because nature and darwin will be dealing with them shortly.

Exclusive–Kobach: Biden Aids and Abets the Spread of COVID While Demanding Americans Get Vaccinated

At the very moment that President Biden and his administration are ratcheting up pressure on Americans to get vaccinated, they are flooding the country with illegal aliens—an alarming percentage of whom are infected with COVID-19.

As Breitbart reported, on Monday a group of illegal aliens including a mother and some children turned up in La Joya, Texas, at a Whataburger restaurant coughing and sneezing and infected with COVID-19.

How did they get there? They had entered illegally and were subsequently turned loose by the Border Patrol, whose agents have been forced to process illegal aliens into the country by President Biden, rather than keep illegal aliens out, as federal law requires. Not only were the illegal aliens spreading COVID-19 around the Whataburger restaurant, they were also spreading it at a local hotel that had been completely booked by Catholic Charities to house illegal aliens.

Biden’s Border Patrol doesn’t test illegal aliens in its custody for COVID. And the aliens certainly aren’t asked to get vaccinated. Biden is more concerned with forcing American citizens to get vaccinated.

This must be an aberration—Biden has to be taking steps to stop COVID-infected aliens from spreading into the country, right? Wrong. In fact, Biden’s policies have opened up the nation’s interior to illegal aliens infected with COVID-19.

Just inside the border, many Border Patrol checkpoints—which are on highways and are intended to stem the flow of illegal aliens into the country—are being shut down. The Border Patrol agents who would otherwise be working those checkpoints are too busy processing illegal aliens into the country. According to my sources in Texas law enforcement, the Border Patrol checkpoints near Las Cruces, New Mexico, near Marfa, Texas, and near El Paso, Texas, have all been shut down recently.

And once they get further into the country, the illegal aliens need not worry about ICE. Biden has forced ICE to stand down. Biden’s guidelines have drastically restricted ICE’s ability to deport illegal aliens. Under the new guidelines, it’s extraordinarily difficult for ICE officers to remove anyone who is not a convicted aggravated felon, a member of a gang, or a terrorist.

Biden didn’t have to abolish ICE. He just ordered ICE to stop deporting people.

Unlike President Biden, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sees the health risks of sending tens of thousands of illegal aliens carrying COVID-19 into the interior of the country every month. On Wednesday, he issued an emergency executive order noting that “busloads of migrants, an unknown number of whom are infected with COVID-l9, are being transported to communities across the State of Texas.”

Abbott accordingly ordered officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety to stop any vehicle on reasonable suspicion that it is carrying illegal aliens who may be infected with COVID-19, reroute them back to the border, and impound the vehicle.

If only President Biden shared the same sense of urgency. But he’s too busy forcing Americans to get vaccinated.

Not a single fact about what percentage of immigrants may have CV-19, just an emotional claim that it's an alarmingly high number.

Not a single piece of data on what numbers are crossing illegally... Just a claim that they are "flooding" across the border.

A beautiful emotive story that must have caused Xenophobics everywhere to recoil in horror .... The illegals were coughing and sneezing in a fast food joint ... No idea if that's true but based on the rest of the piece I'd bet not ....

No comparison to numbers of Americans without vaccines who have Covid. NO attempt to put this into perspective! No factual data. But high on emotion for the faithful to parrot.

Because, gee- being inoculated is too easy, sensible and logical. Here's a great idea- we should build a magnificent big beautiful wall.

1. He's not forcing anyone. No mandates can go into effect at least until the vaccine gains full approval.

2. Yes. It's sad that so much effort has to go into battling misinformation. While I believe (and have stated on here) there's enough room for honest skepticism/hesitancy, much of what we hear about falls far beyond that (misinformation and blatant conspiracy/fear-mongering). It poisons otherwise healthy conversation/debate.
