In the early stages of the pandemic, my sickest patients were almost exclusively older people with chronic health problems. But after the vaccine rollout and the giddy days of “reopening” – followed by the arrival of the more contagious Delta variant – all that changed.


Now the patients I see, frightened and struggling to breathe, are mostly in their 30s, 40s and 50s. They come from different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them have no identifiable risk factors. The one thing many of them have in common: They are all unvaccinated.

The more than 40% of Americans who remain unvaccinated now account for 97% of all Covid-19 hospitalizations and 99.2% of deaths. Hundreds of Americans are dying every day from a vaccine-preventable illness.

Over 163,000 million Americans have been fully vaccinated and they are just fine. Few serious side effects or deaths associated with them. Approximately 95% of those currently hospitalized are unvaccinated. About 98% of all Covid deaths are among the unvaccinated.

They say ignorance is bliss. I'm going to guess that you are a very happy man.

Covid cases are up 58% from last week and deaths are up well over 30%.

Of the 164 million vaccinated Americans, around 125,000 people have tested positive for breakthrough infections and 0.001% have died, according to state data compiled from state dashboards by NBC and data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Why it matters: While "breakthrough cases" have been getting media attention, the low numbers show that the pandemic is mostly a threat for the unvaccinated population.

The numbers do not account for asymptomatic cases in the vaccinated or those who did not get tested. The CDC only tracks cases of those hospitalized or deaths.

NBC notes that the total number of breakthrough cases is likely higher since nine states did not have any information while 11 states, like Florida, did not provide death and hospitalization totals.

"[V]accination is the most important strategy to prevent severe illness and death," the CDC noted in a recent report.

Leaked CDC presentation slides showed that unpublished research indicated that the Delta variant causes more severe illness in unvaccinated people and spreads as easily as chickenpox.

By the numbers: Only 0.004% of those vaccinated that were later infected have been hospitalized from the virus and .001% have died, per the CDC.

The big picture: More than half of the entire American population are not yet fully vaccinated, CDC data shows. Nationwide, the number of cases has been increasing since around late June.

164,000,000 * .004% = 6,560 Hospitalized

164,000,000 * .001% = 1,640 Deaths

Those small percentages seem much bigger when translated to actual numbers. 1640 did what they were supposed to do to be safe and died anyway. That's a small percentage of the 620K covid deaths for sure, but it's not an insignificant number IMHO.

My friend’s father is one of those statistics. He died recently of COVID after being fully vaccinated. That said he was also on medications to suppress his immune system as he had a kidney transplant a few years back. My guess is more than a handful of those that COVID claimed, post vaccination, had similar health issues complicating their situation.

Yet these same people choke down hot dogs, pork rinds, Mountain Dew Code Red, and other corrosive sludge without so much as reading the list of ingredients on the packaging.

Really concerned about their health, they are.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Florida is becoming the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, and just this week, cases jumped 50 percent, with more than 110,000 new cases reported.

Case numbers are now back to where they were in January before the vaccine became available.


“There is no higher risk area in the United States than we’re seeing here,” said Dr. Aileen Marty, FIU infectious disease expert.

“The numbers that we’re seeing are unbelievable, just unbelievably frightening.”

According to the Florida Health Department, the new positivity rate for all of Florida is at 18.1%. In Broward, it’s 14%, Miami-Dade is at 12.1%, and Monroe County is at 16.2%.

And according to the Florida Hospital Association, COVID-19 hospitalizations are nearing last year’s peak.

Florida now has more people hospitalized than any other state.

Dr. Yvonne Johnson, Chief Medical Officer at Baptist South Miami Hospital, said the number of patients in her COVID ward has quadrupled in the past 3 weeks.

“Eighty to eighty-five percent of those people who are hospitalized are unvaccinated. And 100 percent of the people in my IUC are unvaccinated. All those people are suffering unnecessarily.”

“This morning, we had over 420 patients with COVID. And 55 are in the ICU.”

“In the ICU, 55 people are fighting for their lives and only one of them is vaccinated.”

“Most of the patients are in their 30s and 40s and it is very sad to have someone die in the ICU by themselves without a touch of someone’s face of seeing loved ones,” said Juana Mejia, a COVID ICU nurse manager.

According to the Florida Health Department, 61% of the population is vaccinated.

While some still choose not to get their vaccine Friday at Tropical Parkm people said the Delta variant has alarmed them.

“I’m getting it for the first time because of the new variant.”

This woman brought her 85-year-old grandma.

Live in Florida retirement golf community, most of us have gone back to what we were doing last year. Why, they/we opened up and had normal dance at clubhouse- large outbreak. This variate is real and dangerous. JMHO- nearly all old people have been vaccinated, my mid forties daughter got covid from husband/ he got it riding in work truck with a carrier. She now has afib. The long term effects of this disease aren't known, effect everyone differently. Better safe than sorry. Peace to all.

(CNN)A person who attended a St. Louis County Council meeting last week where officials voted to overturn a mask mandate has tested positive for Covid-19, officials said Saturday.

"Out of an abundance of caution it is recommended that anyone who attended the council meeting quarantine for the next nine days and monitor their symptoms," the St. Louis health department said Saturday in a news release.
The city and county of St. Louis announced a mask mandate last week that required people five and older to wear masks in indoor public spaces and on public transportation following a spike in cases of Covid-19.

The move was met with resistance from both local and state officials.
Missouri's attorney general filed a lawsuit the day the mandate went into effect.
Meanwhile, the St. Louis County Council voted 5-2 Tuesday to overturn the mask mandate, which was announced by County Executive Dr. Sam Page the day prior.
It was an attendee of that meeting that tested positive for Covid-19. Most of those who made a public comment at the meeting were in favor of reversing the mask mandate and few wore masks.

I’m not a lib, but I opened the video and started watching. Okay, first off, it’s Alex Jones. Yes, the same Alex Jones who has denied Sandy Hook, 9/11 and the Moon Landing. The same one that goes from Info Wars.

So that sets the stage.

He literally says - right around 4 minutes - that the vaccine turns our bodies into “Engines of Death.” If that isn’t sensational fear mongering, I don’t know what is. That’s when he lost me. He said that was cited from “the inventor of the MRNA” method.

Okay. So I googled “Inventor of MRNA” and found multiple sources stating that Robert Malone - who Alex Jones holds as the inventor - is an absolute falsehood.

What I have seen bolstered over and over again by multiple studies, clinical research, and a spectrum of news sources is the effectiveness of the vaccine against serious illness and death. To add to that, there are the numbers of those who are dying directly correlated to not receiving the vaccine.

I have received the vaccine. It was several months ago. Many people I know, including those on this board, liberal, conservative, libertarian, etc. have received the vaccine, and none of them have suffered any side effects other than the initial tiredness and fatigue that was short-lived.

You yourself posted something along the lines of “Go get the vaccine if you want Bells Palsy.”

I did not acquire it. I also don’t know a single person who did after getting the vaccine. Not one.

I implore you to please leave the fear and leave the pride behind. If someone tells you something - including me or anyone else - to not just believe it. Research it. Challenge it. Look objectively. I know it’s not always easy and it’s hard to leave our biases. I struggle on that front as much as anyone.

But this fringe stuff has really, really made people go crazy. People who otherwise have all the tools and the makeup to be intelligent and informed.

I am having a hard time figuring out "why they would do it though"?

There are many many people who would rather listen to someone like Alex Jones who essentially lies for a living, with the ethos that the more sensational and outrageous the lie, the more money he makes because his audience is larger ... Than they'd rather do 2 minutes of basic research to see what is claimed makes any sense at all.
