The guys will practice against the Giants this week. That is better than a preseason game because you can simulate situations you need to work on instead of random preseason crapola.

Just wondering if I heard this right on the radio,, Mack Wilson is out for a while and Carlson is lost for the year? Did the get that right? Carlson is believed to be out for the season. The only thing I can find on Wilson is a grade one sprain. He shouldn't miss too much time if true.

FYI. Richard LeCounte is recovering from a pretty bad ATV accident, which probably effected his draft status, and the Browns expectations for this year.
Maybe he can contribute, the door is pretty wide open.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

Honestly, he looked a lot faster than I expected him to be.

I didn't think he would have made the team anyways. Can they injury settle him?

I dunno. He's a good blocker that has also made some tough, clutch grabs during games. We like to run 2TE sets, so who is the 4th after Bryant?

If we were absolutely going to keep (4) TEs, I think he was a lock for the 53. However, I don't think (4) TEs PLUS a FB makes any sense for the 53...with or without Carlson.
Too much WR & RB talent and depth...example...I'd rather keep Felton AND D Johnson than a 4th TE.

I messed up on Billings number.
It was Sheldon Day. He looked decent inside.

That 1st tackle was really impressive. A lot of young defenders would have run themselves out of the play by over-pursuing. He diagnosed the play and made the tackle for a short gain. Love seeing that.

I'm almost done watching Gamepass. These announcers are awful, and it's tough to track who is doing what.
I'm not impressed by our Oline, but there are all backups out there, and unit cohesiveness is probably not what it would normally be. We are getting pushed around in the run game, though... so I don't know if I should read into that at all.
I'm similarly not impressed by the secondary (or at least who was playing at the beginning). Looked to be quite a few easy completions.
We also seemed to get run on a bit in the beginning.

Is there some sort of fluky reason that Mack consistently get trashed on these grading scales? I know I'm just asking for a ton of snark here, but we were led to believe that he's turning a corner just to get stuck with his usual ultra-subpar game grade (against a preseason roster). It makes me wonder if there's something in the grading scale/stat that's not grading Mack correctly (these advanced stats are not infallible).

Apparently not a good start for Billings, who a lot of people were interested in seeing this year as one of the a hopeful replacements for Ogunjobi and Richardson.

While it was against backups and some players who probably won't even make the Jags roster, his speed and instincts were on full display and gave me very optimistic expectations from him moving forward.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

j/c I almost forgot about those two "almost blocks" by that 34 year old, new, "rookie at the position", TE Tim Tebow. But then they were pretty fogettable.

What kind of weight should be given to numerical grades from a (pile of trash official named) preseason game.
The best preseason player I ever saw, (pile of trash preseason), was a quarterback behind Kosar in around 1991, or 1994, that Qb was amazing in preseason and a rookie, He stunk as a qb in any regular season action
For that reason... no weight or very little.
Eric Zeier, Quarterback, with the best preseason ever to remember. 1991-ish out of Georgia. You'll never see, it was legendary, the (pile of trash) preseason 4 games of Eric Zeier, Qb Uga. Noteworthy 30 years later. It did not translate to the actual season.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

http://tcf.danwismar.com/cleveland-brown...on-history.html More interesting than I thought. Alabama, Columbus, Toledo, Montreal, places to play preseason games. College vs. Pros in 1955? interesting read, found looking up Eric Zeiers pre season.

Maybe he can contribute, the door is pretty wide open. He might be a major steal. I saw him play a lot when he was in college and he played way better then his draft position. Injury hampered him, and I was a bit worried maybe he wasn't going to get better. It looks like he is back, and that is major good news for us, but maybe not for Delpit. LeCounte has starting ability. he showed the range I remembered. It may not be early, or even this year, but LeCounte is starter quality.

At the very least, it means we have some very good depth in the secondary for the next couple of years, whomever that may end up being.
He looked really solid Saturday night; he stood out.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I have watched a ton of his tape in college. Going into the draft he was the player I liked the most.
Blockers never get a clean lick on him. He always slices past them. He has this knack to dip and slide past blockers and cut the runner off.
In addition in space he can lock a receiver up.
Even though we play him at linebacker in many ways he reminds me of Ed Reed.
He will have a major impact on the Browns defense.

Watched it live with a bunch of people who didn't care so it was tough... watched it again last night and, it was just as I feared. This is NOT a super bowl caliber team, not even close.
So I'll just lay out the sad truth for everybody... if all of our starters get hurt and we have to play with this group, we aren't going to win the super bowl.

You came to that conclusion via 1 preseason game where no starter played?

Is what you saying with tongue in cheek?
So, the Jags play starters and second string and do zip.
We sit 30 players. The guys on the field were people who mostly will not make the team. And rookies who are playing in their first game.
Not a starter on offense played.
First "pre-season game."
And you have reached a conclusion?
Damn you must have an amazing crystal ball that should be used for the lottery.
You can not be serious?

Obviously, it was meant to be funny. But, I find your comment just as silly. You think if we lose every starter on this team that we are going to the Super Bowl? Read what he said, guys…..

I gave him the open to clarify.
I stated "tongue in cheek."
Of course if no starters played; no team would win a SB.
