I think the President conscripting civilian airlines to help with the transfer is a sign that things are going south in a hurry. That is just my opinion as was the other statement. I think some of the Taliban leaders may be square in their word about no interference, but I am not all that sure they even have control of things happening away from the airport.
Just a straight up question here to help you understand my thinking. If you were an American contractor or journalist of some sort and 40 miles away from the airport, how confident would you be in walking or driving up to the checkpoints along the way announcing you were American and are supposed to get free passage to the airport?
Do you think they would hand you your free pass go card and you collect $200? Ahhh, I wouldn't feel real secure that would happen.

I agree things seem to be bad going to worse. But at the same time, I think Biden at least wants to do the right thing and get people out. Yet like you, I don't think it's going to end well. However, every person evacuated is another life spared from living under Taliban rule, so I hope they go until it's impossible and then some trying to get people out.

Unless something has changed, you weren't told the entire story. From everything I've seen nobody is asking them to go to Kabul to help evacuate anyone. Our military is evacuating people out of Kabul to extraction points. Somewhere in the middle of where they're headed. What is being asked of these airlines is to pick them up at these extraction points in order to take them to their final destinations.

Let me pose a question back to you. Can you ever think of any time the U.S. has left a warring country where the enemy has taken control that you would have been comfortable and safe trying to travel 40 miles to be evacuated to safety? Would you have felt safe in Vietnam as we evacuated and the North Vietnamese were entering Saigon?
I think anyone who feels safe under such conditions would have to be a fool until they were safely out of Afghanistan.
