I'm curious how this attack impacts the treaty between the Taliban and the US. IIRC, the treaty largely hinges on the Taliban and other specific groups ceasing hostilities towards the US.

For a couple of days now reports have said that ISIS-X, an offshoot of ISIS has been the one's making threats to do something like this. They are actually the enemy of the Taliban. I don't think they are a part of any treaty we have with the Taliban.
Reports are sketchy at the moment so speculation is meaningless. But if I were leaning in one direction that would be it.

At some point I'm going to read into the treaty we signed. I know that it was reported that one of the conditions of us leaving were that the Taliban is supposed to work to prevent orgs like Al Qaeda to operate freely within Afghanistan with the intention of hurting the US. I'd be really surprised if ISIS weren't also included in this type of condition.
So the fact that ISIS killed Americans in Kabul before we're even all the way out with the Taliban controlling the city could set up an interesting conversation regarding the Taliban's performance against the treaty. Further, it calls into question the Taliban's insistence on remaining linked to Al Qaeda who haven't softened their stance at all towards the US.

Afghanistan is still a war zone. It’s not a safe place, It hasn’t been a safe place for centuries. People where being killed long before we went in and will continue to be killed long after we leave. And didn’t trump say Isis is dead? Pfft can’t brag about how good of a job he did getting rid of Isis now can we?

I'll even add to what I wrote before about negotiating deadlines or whatever the Taliban says. Why does anyone care what they say? We don't need to ask permission to do anything. Go in there and take them out as necessary. Our president has no spine and is easily intimidated.
In Hopeless Speech, Biden Refuses Liability For Afghanistan Crisis He Created
AUGUST 26, 2021 By Jordan Davidson After delaying addressing the nation for most of the day, President Joe Biden is still avoiding the liability for the Afghanistan crisis and the deaths that have occurred during evacuation efforts.
In his White House speech, Biden called the at least 12 U.S. service members who were killed in the explosions heroes but spent minutes comparing the loss of his son Beau Biden to cancer to the pain his administration’s incompetence has caused military families.
Biden claimed he was “outraged” at the situation and attack, which took more than 100 lives, but only repeated lies and deflected blame for his botched withdrawal that caused the American evacuation crisis which he celebrated last week as being death-free.
“Those who carried out this attack and anyone who wishes America harm know this, we will not forgive,” Biden said. “We will not forget. We will hunt you down to make you pay. I will defend our interests and our people with every measure at my command.”
Biden previously promised that “any attack on our forces or disruption of our operations at the airport will be met with swift and forceful response” but made no formal commitment to use force against ISIS-K until after his commanders draw up plans.
U.S. evacuation efforts, the president said, will continue because “Americans will not be intimidated” but he could only commit to rescuing “as many Americans out as possible” instead of the approximately 1,500 U.S. citizens still stranded in Afghanistan.
“There are, will be I believe numerous opportunities to continue to provide access for additional persons to get out of Afghanistan, either through means that we provide and or are provided through in cooperation with the Taliban,” Biden said.
Shortly after, he claimed that there were no historical examples of conflicts that ended successfully with everyone being removed safely.
“As a student of history, no conflict, where, when a war was ending, one side was able to guarantee that everyone that wanted to be extracted from that country would get out,” Biden said.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former President Trump were just a few of the people who condemned the ISIS-K attack before the president issued any statement or gave a speech on Thursday.

we probably have, if not close to it. and if your best counter is the amount itself, then its not much of a counter.
you guys can rant about the quantity, but leaving weapons and equipment in a combat zone is still leaving weapons and equipment in a combat zone.
and in every major conflict, win or lose, we've done exactly that.

So why even have the damn thing? If you know the question beforehand, and your people have scripted your answer, why put on the dog and pony show?
you're taking that too literal. if you were president during a time like this, you and your team would already know the kind of questions you're gonna receive from the media, and already have a strategy on how to answer that.
i mean this is basic stuff. government does it, corporations do it, private organizations do it.

Well, you shouldn't act like it's press conference with open questions if you have notes about who to call on, what the question will be, and can just read the answer. course, biden isn't capable of much more than that.
