I figured this was a pretty cool story I'd share with you guys. I was on my lunch break yesterday. (I work at Dicks at the mall here in Dayton), and our store is connected to the mall. So, I go into the food court, and go to Chick-fil-a to eat.
So, I'm standing in line, and this guy comes up and stands behind me in line with dark sunglasses on and his hood over his head, trying to make it so no one notices him. Well, I look at him for a minute, and realize who he is. So I start talking to him, I just said "What's up, Dave?" and he kind of laughed at me and said "Whats up man". We talked for a few minutes while we were in line, and he told me how he appreciated me not making a big deal about him being there, and how it was cool that I just talked to him like a normal person.
He is really a nice guy, he just doesn't like to always "live the celebrity lifestyle". He likes to live as much of a normal life as he can, without people always coming up to him asking for autographs and pictures.
Anyway, just a cool experience that I figured I'd share with you guys

Pretty cool, hope he's doing well... I sat next to Peter Gammons at an Indians/Dodgers spring training game. I should have asked for an autograph when I had a chance, but he was busy writing good things about the team.
I want the Cleveland Browns to be my pallbearers so they can let me down for the last time.

You should have asked him what the five fingers said to the face? Whapow!! I'm Rick James ****.
Hehe, not really but can you imagine how many people actually walk up to him and say I'm Rick James ****? Has to get annoying as hell.
I think that would be cool to meet him. He's definately the funniest comedian of this generation.

No,but I was nervous to meet him because I was a kid and everything you hear about him is that he is a major jerk. He talked to me for a few minutes about high school basketball and now that I met him I can tell others he's not that bad

Yeah I've heard the same thing about him, never had the pleasure of meeting him but he's my favorite comedian hands down. You can tell that he's just a genuine nice guy that just happened to be extremely funny and caught a break. He seems like he really doesn't like the whole celebrity aspect of his life though. I've heard the same thing about Mos Def both seem like they're good guys.

Thanks for sharing, good to hera he's pretty cool.
I've been pretty lucky overall with celebs, mostly athletes. For the most part if you treat them like humans they are cool. I guess I'm lucky where I work, I "bump" into them all the time. Some of the more cool peeps I've met...
+ Charles Barkley (almost ran into him at a store, got a chuckle from him) + Tiger Woods' dad before he passed (didn't realize it until we were done chatting) + Rickey Dudley a couple times - he and I think Che Grant bought me anda buddy a few drinks, the other time was on a plane + Herbie (back in college - boy the ladies swarmed around him) + Franco Harris - super cool dude + Phil Knight (founder of Nike) - another super cool dude
Worst + Paul Maguire (the football announcer) - was drunk and saying somethign crude about the 14 year old's mom that was in front of me
Couple other stories + If you follow poker, Antonio Esfandari (sp?) was at the club I was at on Friday - drinking directly out of a big bottle of Belvedere vodka - can't imagine that wasn't $300 at the club, though he could afford it + Was walking across a bridge from one side of our campus to the other and a bunch of big dudes were crossing the other way, didn't pay much attention...as they got closer I looked up and made eye contact with one of them briefly and looked down, then realized who it was and did a double take - was still looking at me and started laughing at the double take - Micheal Jordan + Buddy of mine was in our cafeteria and turned a corner and ran over a kid (not typically a lot of kids around so you don't tend to look down), it turned out that the kid was holding the hand of his father, Cal Ripken
I have more, but...this is plenty

I have many as well and even have a few famous friends out here. The story that my friends love is that I met Jerry Garcia in 1991 when I was a senior at Walsh Jesuit. We were in a breakfast buffet line together at the Sheraton in Cuyahoga Falls. I look back at this huge guy and poke my younger brother, Paul, who was a little more liberal than me. Me: Dude check out this huge hippy behind me. Paul: Oh #@$% that's Jerry Garcia Me: Really? (Turning around) Me: Mr. Garcia? Jerry: Yes Me: I'm George, nice to meet you Jerry: Nice to meet you too. 10 seconds looking at each other..... Jerry: Are you going to eat all the bacon? (5 strips left in the pan) Me: No. Jerry: Cool. And then I turned around and went about my day. My stoner friends in college love that story.

It's so funny because I work in the entertainment industry. We have had a few concerts here since I've moved to Montana and the culture shock is insane. For instance when Elton John came to town, everyone was going nuts. It was so bad that his manager wrote a letter of complaint because of it. When he comes back to town again for his 2008 tour, I'm one of the few people who got singled out in the letter as being able to work again since I know what I am doing and won't act like a little school girl. It was funny because I was just casually talking to him and his manager went crazy until Elton said it was cool because we were just talking like normal humans, lol.
Then you get another big shift and James Taylor came in. I walked backstage during intermission to grab a piece of pizza. James was just standing there relaxing and there wasn't a single member of security around. I couldn't believe that there wasn't anyone around him. Granted James was probably the nicest celeb I've ever met. His band got so bored when he was signing autographs after intermission that they just started jamming trying to get him to come onstage, lol. Oh well, looks like Tool is our next big band with another bunch of smaller, big bands coming up.

I've never really "met" someone famous that I've talked to, except Antonio Bryant, if that really counts. But I have seen some celebrities, including Webster (I forgot his real name) playing poker at my father-in-laws table at Bally's, and Wacko Jacko. Yes, Michael Jackson. In a magic store of all places.

I have a few stop in to workout downtown when they are in town...
Coolest/nicest - Dirks Bentley - I don't follow country music, but I guess he's pretty good. Best disguise - Harry Connick, Jr. - I even knew he was coming, shook his hand as to give a tour like any other person - didn't hit me for a few seconds. Biggest surprise - Maria Sharapova - Not as pretty as she may look on TV/pictures. Others of note off the top of my head... Miss Universe, Miss USA, Miss Teen - Casual friend knew Miss Teen a few years ago, they came in for a workout when all were in town Kirk Gibson - big racquetball fan, likes to swear a lot while playing Joe Girardi - bigger guy than he looks (muscle) Nate Robertson (Tigers pitcher) - reads the paper while lifting weights

Is Chappelle from that area.. I mean the Cincy, Dayton area? Just wondering what he was doing in a mall there...
I've had the pleasure of meeting Richie Sexson and Jim Thome. I live in Aurora and Thome had a house in Barrington Estates (not sure but he may still own it) anyway, Richie stayed at thier house from time to time..
A buddy of mine owns a gas station and I was standing there talking to him when Thome drove up in his Hummer with Sexson in the car also. Both were really nice.
Met Charlie Frye and Terry Robiski at Doogans in Aurora one evening.. Both are very cool guys.
For those of you older than dirt such as me,, I once met Eddie Albert in the Pittsburgh Airport.. He was an actor who played Oliver Wendall Douglas on the TV Show Green Acres.. his TV wife was Ava Gabor..... I didn't speak to him but my mom did....

Yes, he and his family have a place west of Dayton. I remember his Block Party that he threw in New York. He started that movie in his home town where he was giving people not only the tickets to go to the Block Party, but he was also providing transportation and lodging for them as well. And this included the entire Central State University Marching Band. So it wasn't like 2 or 3 people...it was closer to several hundred. He might have critics out there, but I have a lot of respect for him.

Autographs - Unless your an avid fan, most have no real value. Sure some might, like Babe Ruth, Elvis, John Lennon....Even then it depends on what they signed. And most people don't take proper care of an autograph to allow it to stand up to time, for when it may become worth something, usually after the person is dead.
You'll get alot more out of celebrities if you just treat them like any other person.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I have met Dave Chappelle also. I met him in 2001 at a De La Soul concert at Kenyon College. They have summer send off every year and De La Soul was the headliner. My buddies and I was hanging out back behind the stage, and we noticed him standing by an equipment van. It was weird, we watched Half Baked every day, and always quoted his lines.
We went up and talked to him and got pictures with him. We asked for autographs but didn't have any paper. So my roomate who had a bag of chips in his back pack, dumped the chips out and had him sign the bag of Ruffles. He was very down to earth and just having a good time. He said he was real good friends with the band and was traveling/partying with De La Soul.
We all filled up our cups with some beer and toasted him and his career, at that time he was just starting to get some publicity.

j/c Long time ago, in DC, my family went into a restaraunt. There's Patrick Ewing (he is one person that cannot be mistaken for anyone else). I said "dad, that's Patrick Ewing." So, as he's walking past us my dad, genius that he is, looks up, waaaaay up, and says "Are you Patrick Ewing?". "Yes, I am". I want to say I shook his hand, but in reality, his hand went almost up to my elbow....... Roger Penske - couple of times. Sam Hornish Jr. (IRL driver - 3 time champ - actually, he's my cousin, so that probably doesn't count) Helio Castroneves - IRL driver. Those were in social settings - not at the tracks. Also, I saw Bernie Kosar after a Browns game one year. Was going to go up and say hi, but holy crap - who's standing next to him getting a picture taken????? My freaking ex wife. So, I just went on my way.

So we're the same age...1991 Falls High, just down the road. And isn't the brunch buffet at the Sheraton awersome!
Anyway, I've met several past and present Browns players at some events throughout the years. I've also spoken to Mark Price (former Cavs player) on the phone. Hell, I had his home number in Hudson for a long time. Never called it, but I had it.
I'm actually usually too shy when I meet famous people. I mostly don't bug them, I usually just wave. I know, me? Shy? It's true. But I've been in NYC, LA and vacation spots in Hawaii and Colorado and seen all kinds of famous people at each place. I just never work up the nerve to go talk to them. But, like I said, I acknowledge them and say hi.
My husband met Britney Spears once. Back when she was still sane and just hitting the scene. He was a ski slope groomer at Beaver Creek in Colorado. Part of the groomers job was to transport guests from the town up to Beano's, a very fancy restaurant on the mountain. Britney was one of his riders. Normally, they have a hayride type cart attached to the groomer that customers sit in. However, Brit got to ride in the cab of John's snow cat, in the heat.
I asked him if he "did" her (joking, of course)...he said "Hell no! She was only 16 at the time!"

I ran into ( literally) "Z" at the Jake on year. I had a couple of dogs and a beer and was walking away from the counter when I looked over my shoulder to find where the napkins were and BAM ! I walked into the tallest man I had ever seen. It was only when he said excuse me in that flawless English of his did I put it together who he was. Bet he was pissed that the miget who ran into him spilled beer all over his shoes.

Seems like most of the celebs I've met were in the venues you would expect to see them in. Me and another guy I knew sat next to Mark Shapiro at an Indians game in Anaheim. We were on top of the Visitors dugout as well, so we got to say hi to some of the players as well. At the end of the game, Wickman was blowing the game as usual, and some guy 6 rows up or so yells, "Hey Shapiro ... we need a closer!" Guess some things never change. At the Cleveland Grand Prix years and years ago. I saw Michael Andretti while wondering the pits during one of the practice sessions. I was so excited to see him I shoved my way through the crowd and actually pushed Mario Andretti out of the way to get to him. Mario was my favorite driver at the time, and my father was practically laughing himself to death when I came back. Michael was actually a cool guy as well, asking me about my day, making some nice conversation, and not just signing my program and moving on like most guys. I don't know if anyone knows Jen Sheft or not. Sort of a C-list celeb who was the Bachelorette (and originally on the Bachelor). I went to school with her in Junior High and she dated one of my friends. Bob Golic went to my church in Mentor when he played for the Browns and Harry Holt's son went to my elementary school. I usually saw most of the Browns at that time when they went to training camp anyway.

Let's see, most of the famous people I've met have been at celebrity golf tournaments... I met Fred Funk once when he was the golf coach at Maryland. He watched me tee off on the first hole of a tournament, they had a $200 prize to beat the low pro... he was coming off the back 9 and I asked him what he shot... 32.... so I scratched off "beat the low pro" from my list of things to do that day... The first hole is a par 3, a 220 yard par 3. So he watches me hit and I placed it nicely in the middle of the green, we said goodbye and I went up and 4 putted. I met Art Monk once. I actually played golf with Joe Jacoby and Russ Grimm, both great guys not real good golfers though... I met Dan Marino when my brother was at Pitt. I met Tom Glavine at a spring training game but didn't care because nobody knew who he was at the time. I met Jesse Owens, at a speaking engagement, and Vincent Price.... and John Glenn Oh, and my favorite, I met, shook hands with, and talked to, Bill Mazeroski...
