Virginia Girl, 5, Killed When Dresser Tips Over
Thursday, November 08, 2007
FALLS CHURCH, Va. ( — A 5-year-old girl was crushed when she tried to turn up the volume on a television and the dresser holding the set tipped over, police and family members said.

The mother, Gricia Estela Arevalo, ran into the bedroom after hearing the screams of Glenda Arevalo's 8-year-old sister. Glenda was pronounced dead Tuesday night at a hospital.

"Oh, my baby," the mother said Wednesday, as she sat in her home and held up a small, laminated spelling book Glenda had made in her kindergarten class.

Fairfax County police investigated the death and determined that it was an accident.

This is why you brace everything that could fall or tip over on a small child to the wall.I did that at my daughters house and ours to make sure nothing could fall on my 2 year old grand daughter. They like to climb.

A guy I used to work with told me his niece died when a T.V. fell on her while she was trying to do something with it.

Sad stuff.

That is terrible... So sad.

This may be as good a reason as any to make sure furniture like dressers or chest of drawers aren't Top Heavy.... Putting TV's on them is pretty much not the right thing to do with toddlers around..

Still,,, this is aweful...
