http://cle.scout.com/2/700148.htmlBrowns Place McKinney on IR By Site Staff Posted Nov 10, 2007 The shoulder injury suffered by Seth McKinney is more serious than expected. The team's starting right guard will be lost for the season after the Browns placed him on the team's Injured Reserve list on Saturday. The Browns have placed Seth McKinney on the injured reserve list, which means he will be lost for the season. McKinney hurt his shoulder against the Seattle Seahawks and was yesterday ruled "out" for the Browns match-up against the Steelers this Sunday. Lennie Friedman and Ryan Tucker are both candidates to replace McKinney. The Browns also are dealing with the uncertain status of LG Eric Steinbach, who is listed as"questionable" for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh. Here is the press release from the Browns regarding McKinney. BROWNS PLACE SETH McKINNEY ON INJURED RESERVE The Cleveland Browns have placed RG Seth McKinney on Injured-Reserve, the club announced today. McKinney, 6-3 and 315 lbs., started the first eight games at right guard this season for the Browns. McKinney suffered a left shoulder injury in the third quarter of last Sunday’s 33-30 overtime win against Seattle and did not return. McKinney was signed by the Browns as an unrestricted free agent this past offseason. McKinney has played in 69 career games, including 42 starts, during his six-year NFL career with Cleveland and Miami. McKinney was originally a third round, 90th overall, choice by the Dolphins in the 2002 NFL Draft and played his first five seasons in the NFL with Miami. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crap. Tucker better get used to guard.

Didn't see that coming. Damn, not good. We've been pretty lucky with injuries so far in comparison to what's been going on around the league and what the norm is for this team. Not good, hopefully Tuck can jump in there and do the job. Bad week for this to happen, too.

Too bad about McKinney.. But on Stienbach,, the news on him isn't so bad as it turns out.. I mean I know the team has to report this,, but if you go to the Browns main site, there is an interview with Stieny in front of his locker yesterday,, he seems adament that he's playing tomorrow.. and he called his back just dinged a little.. that he just wanted to rest it for a day and that he intended to practice today (friday)..

Jeeze, no idea it was this serious. He was just ruled out for this weeks game yesterday and now he's on the IR? What could have possibly happened to his shoulder. But the good news is this is where our outstanding depth on the line comes into play. Friedman might be a little bit of a drop off. I think Tucker can be just as good, possibly even better all-around than Seth.
Get healthy Seth and great season!

Well, we were bound to get hit with some injuries but all in all it's not been too bad this season, in fact, so far it's been pretty good. However, losing McKinney will not help against the Steelers relentless blitz D that we will face. I hope Seth and LCB can both play next xeason, wow what an O-LINE that would make for us. I can dream can't I!!! LOL

In years past, this would have been the death knell for our offense, but with Tucker and Friedman, I have no worries about the depth on the line. With LCB back next year we should have an unstoppable line and very good depth.

Too bad for McKinney, he has done a good job this year. Best of luck Seth and hopefully you will resign and come back next year.
Tucker was as reliable in preseason at guard, so it shouldn't be much (if any) drop off in play.
I haven't seen who we signed, or brought up from the practice squad to fill his roster spot?
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

That puts us down to 8 on the roster with Cliff Lewis on the PS.
8 linemen is really the bare bones bottom.
My guess is we would like to get back up to 9 on the game roster.

J/C...
Not a huge loss. He has been okay this year, though he was playing well last week before he went down. I think Friedman should get the first nod there, but his versatility as an interior swing man means that Tucker probably gets the nods.

Is that crickets I hear, all the Trade Tucker posters shut up the last several weeks. Yep we sure should have traded him away before the season started

This is why he was only signed to a 1-year deal. He's too much of an injury risk. .

The interior is getting thin. Has Matua signed with anyone? I thought he was one of the better linemen we had during camp and the best run blocker of the bunch.

I'd have to check and I don't want to, but the only time McKinney missed games was all of last season with either a back or neck injury.. otherwise he was pretty good at staying healthy,,, I think?

It would be interesting to see if Tucker could help in the run game at gaurd. Freidman has played well in relief and can hold his own, but Tucker is physically tougher.
This game is going to call for controlling the time of possession, the run game has got to be viable. Tucker is a good run blocker and could be a key at helping control Hampton in the middle.
As much as I love that we score quickly, long drives are going to be necessary to keep Pittsburgh's offense off the field and not in a groove.
I really wish they would use Harrison, but if history tells us anything, because of his blocking he will probably not play. I wish they would use him as the primary runner a few times to spell Lewis, so blocking will not be something he has to deal with. Put him behind Vickers and turn him loose.

that sucks, hope he can heal 100% and be ready to go next year..
it is nice to have some depth with tucker, and also friedman who's shown he can be serviceable...
i don't think this will mess up any chemistry with the line, if anything it will make the entire offensive line team stronger as tucker and friedman will get their chances to play first team
and i have no doubt in my mind that steiner is going tomorrow...

I am by far the most biased Hamilton pimp you will ever find. However, I don't think we should bring him back unless we get rid of Sorenson, or a safety goes down.

We need to fill his spot with OL. We only have 8 guys and thats cuttin it kinda short.

The Offense didn't suffer much during the fourth quarter or the overtime of the Seahawks game.
The article said the injury occured in the third quarter.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Matua is back on the Titans' practice squad. So, he could be claimed. Cliff Louis is on our practice squad and Kelly Butler is also available. Those are the available players that are somewhat familiar with the Browns' offense.

Nope. He missed the last 3 games in 2005 with a knee injury and then didn't play in 2006 because of a serious neck injury. I think it's safe for me to say he was an injury risk and only worth a 1-year deal.

I would think that Tuck is a longer term answer at RG than is Friedman. I don't view Friedman as a long-term starter at any position...although a very valuable backup.
If true, I hope Tuck starts there today and we get on with the year.
So...between Sowells and Dorsey, who will be active today? I prefer Sowells...not because I've seen him as better, but because I want him to pan out to at least a decent backup.

Out of 96 possible games (which includes 8 remaining this year) McKinney played in 69 (including 8 this year with the Browns) He was available for 71.9% of the games he could have played in during his 6 seasons in the NFL...
Does missing 28.1% of the games qualify him as an injury risk? I wouldn't think so... I believe, and I don't know this, it's just what I believe, that because of the severe neck injury, the Browns didn't want to take a risk for more than a year..
I bet they resign him when he's healthy... Just a guess, but he wasn't bad at all and he is versitile as well...

In football, it's what you've done for me lately and with McKinney it was IR for two straight years and now it's three. It doesn't matter what he did the first few years which is padding your percentages.
They might re-sign him but I bet if they do it's for 1 year again.

I would bet that we draft a Guard, then hope that between that pick, Sowells & Bentley that we have something for our future. In the near term, we'll still have Tucker next season.
The line is *Officially* in Maintenance Mode now, no need for drastic moves anymore, now we just need to keep reloading it and build the quality depth with home-grown guys.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Update from the homepage:
He said Seth McKinney, who was placed on injured-reserve Saturday, is deciding where and when he'll have surgery to repair his separated shoulder, and that the Browns "will probably add another offensive lineman" to the roster to replace McKinney.
"He wants to go ahead and get it fixed and try to be ready for next year," Crennel said.

I'm guessing sowells, tuck, and friedman are the backup guards, with nat the fat, tuck, and shaffer being the tackles. next year, hopefully bents at RG, backing up LG, friedman backing up LG and RG, sowells backing up RG. tuck backing up RG, RT. Nat the fat backing up LT/RT and shaffer at RT backing up LT dang, we have depth hopefully, this next draft is all D.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.
