Cleveland Browns DE Takk McKinley out remainder of season with Achilles injury

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns defensive end Takk McKinley suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during Monday night's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed. McKinley was carted off the field in the third quarter. He had 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks for the Browns this season.

"I told him to be optimistic, that we loved him and we were here for him. Just keep his head up," Browns defensive end Myles Garrett said after the 16-14 loss to the Raiders. "I know he was hurting physically and mentally."

Garrett himself was injured Monday, suffering a groin injury in the second half. After being evaluated in the medical tent, Garrett returned to the game. But Stefanski said Tuesday that results were pending on the severity of Garrett's injury.

The Browns have a quick turnaround this week, with a game at the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.

"Everybody has to play through some pain or injury," Garrett said. "Everybody is dealing with something, so I do not feel sorry for myself and do not want anyone feeling sorry for me. Get back and get ready for Christmas Day. We have another game."

In the wake of a COVID-19 outbreak last week, which prompted the NFL to push the Raiders game back two days, the Browns still have 22 players on the COVID-19 reserve list, including 10 starters.

Stefanski also remains away from the team after testing positive for the virus. He said that nobody, including himself, tested off of the COVID-19/reserve list Tuesday. That means the soonest the Browns could get any of those people back would be Wednesday.

Feel bad for him. Hate seeing injuries of any kind, let alone this severity. Get better soon Tak

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I knew as soon as I saw his face on the cart that it was season-ending, but this is like worst-case level injury.
He probably has no chance at all of being ready by opening day, but I'd like to see the Browns offer him a 1 year Vet minimum extension for 2022. He'd be on IR/PUP for most of the season, but perhaps after next year's Bye he could come in and at least put in some work toward a new deal. This really sucks for him on a number of levels, and it's a major loss for the team, too frown

Worth keeping IMO if he still wants to play. Certainly gave us more than OBJ. Get better soon!

I agree. I felt for the kid. He was seeing his ability to sign a nice 3 year deal and possibly career going down the drain.

If I'm not mistaken he signed a one year deal.. I think he did enough to earn another year.. The question is, will he be able..

That sucks. I was down on him during his preseason drama, but he's been a really nice sub on the line. Could've remade his career, but he's got a long road ahead.
