I don't know if anyone has reported this before, but according to NFL.COM Mullens had a higher QB rating (vs the Raiders) than all but one of Mayfield's starts! Not sure what this is telling us....
Well that sure got a lot of responses. Thanks for the interesting POV's, guys....
Honestly bb, Mullens looked better than Baker throughout the game. I don't know if it is because Baker's injury is holding him way back or not.
Either way, I don't think Baker can lead us to the Super Bowl even if healthy.
IMHO, and I could be wrong here, but to me Mullens is a game manager whereas BM is more of a hunter/killer. I believe BM is not operating in a scheme that is best suited to his abilities. KS should turn him loose a bit more.

Raiders Mullen's 20/30 (66.6%) for 147 yards (4.9 ypa) and 1 TD (team scored 14 points) rated at a 89.2 Chargers Baker's 23/32 (71.9%) for 305 yards (9.5 ypa) and 2 TDs (team scored 42 points) rated at a 42.9
I don't know NFL.com rating system. They might be excellent - idk. But in case you missed the 'rating' that was included ... the point of those stats was, that was NOT the one.
Mullens did great - under the circumstances. Maybe he could progress and do well with more time under center? But he absolutely did not look better than Baker. I guess if you want to pick Baker's worst 2 or 3 games with a torn shoulder, maybe you could say that he looked better? But even then I don't believe that to be true. "Looks Better" is wayyyy different than "Had better stats" ....

This is BS. Look, I've questioned Mayfield's performance just like everyone else and wonder about his future here. But to say Mullins looked better than Mayfield is a terrible, terrible take.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
A 50% completion rate never "looks good". But I do agree with you. If you look at Bakers entire body of work since he's been drafted. Baker looks better. If you look at his last four games, not so much. It could be the injuries. But then that wouldn't explain the anomaly of his first half performance in the Ravens game where he was very accurate. So who really knows?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
And so I don't misunderstand ... not talking about statistics ... you believe Mullens looked better than Baker in all of the last 4 games Baker played? That's what I read into your post.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
The thing about Baker is the the bar was set low when he took over as Browns QB 22 other QBs failed as Brown starters pre Baker
But does that equate to him.being the future of the Browns ? Right now he is the worst QB in the AFC North And that puts him right on par for the past 22,Browns QBs That is not a franchise QB folks

I couldn't disagree with that more.
Every quarterback from Couch to Weeden to Quinn to McCoy and others have come here with the possibility of being the "savior" on their back. The expectations really couldn't have been any higher on every new QB to come through here, which were to propel the Browns to winning seasons in spite of poor talent around them, poor coaching/revolving coaches, switching schemes every year or two, ill-conceived front offices, internal bickering..... And with Baker being the #1 overall pick, they were even higher than most... and he was into year 3 before some of those other things around him started actually improving. "Started" being the operative word. Only in Cleveland at the beginning of year TWO of your coaching/GM staff are you excited because you have achieved "consistency". Then throw in the media hype that we were a super bowl team in the preseason... the expectations were off the charts.

That first half anomaly was probably the pain meds wearing off in the second half. He took some hits and started feeling it all again.
What’s crazy to me with baker: remember his rookie season when he was just letting it rip (NYJ game, Raiders, Panthers, Ravens, etc)? He’s been neutered to the point of losing his strengths IMO.
I wish we could have a balance of that QB and the turnover-averse QB Stefanski wants
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
I can't wait until the Browns develop a playoff/Super Bowl caliber coaching staff.
Simply adding free agent talent is not enough....the "coaching staff" needs to develop that talent into a playoff/Super Bowl caliber unit.
I agree.
I think we have some of that now, but lack some of the experience necessary. We'll know more in a few seasons. As with any job, it usually gets better and easier as one gains time on the job.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I’m a no on Watson. We have a quarterback who has proven he can play at a high level. He s badly injured this year and has terrible receivers. Even if Watson is cleared criminally, two dozen women say he is a creep and a pervert. That matters to me, even if he is a really good player.
There are some fans who see this as a problem, and are already clamoring for a rinse/repeat... right on schedule. This staff is near the end of 2 seasons together. That should have been time enough to overhaul the roster, draft/hire FA's, and put together a team that can perennially compete for the Lombardi.
Some folks are only comfortable with what they already know. A 2.5-3 year cycle followed by wholesale turnover is 'home sweet home' for them. Because, you know- the only thing that will bring a ring is 'more of the same'...
I think the team that played KC would have at least 2 more wins on the record. Sadly, we haven't seen that team since Week 3 or so. I also think that much of the play calling has been influenced by who was available; a coaching staff doesn't just pull a 180 philosophy-wise for no reason.
Every year brings different challenges. This year's challenge: depth.

Well said. And on top of that this season isn't over and it's the end of the year. Merry Chirstmas!

Do you chase a Aaron Rodgers type? That is a deep hole to get in to. You could spend forever trying to get a future HOF'er.
Then if you find him. You have to manage his salary against all the other positions.
My guess is analytics say that is not the right path to take.
Find a quarterback you can win with. Not the guy you can win because of.
First they are easier to find. Then if you get a guy that is above average you can spend more on the team around him.
The Path to a Super Bowl IMO. Starts with a dominate defense that can keep you in every game. If you can consistently hold the opposition to under 17 points. You don't need Aaron Rodgers to win.
You can have a good run game and a guy like Baker and you have a good shot. There are guys out there like Tannehill, Cousins, Baker and others that are good enough if you have a team around them.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
smh. The worst fans in the NFL are on this board in the game day thread. They would have thrown Tom Brady under the bus every time he lost. They don't deserve a winning team.
Some of you who want a quick fix is part of the problem this organization has. If the FO starts to release players in key positions right left and center then we can say goodbye to the progress we done so far.
We are all frustrated and disappointed but let’s not lose our patience before the season is over. Right now the wisest move is to keep Baker another season and try to find a quality WR in the draft so our offense gets more diversified. If this doesn’t work out then it’s time to move on from Bake.

Good lord stop with the exaggerations.
We wouldn’t complain about Tom Brady because Tom Brady would’ve already locked up a playoff birth on this team.

Mayfield is not as yet (if ever) a 'franchise' QB. I give him one more season but he's on a short(er) leash. p.s. Go figure....a 'game manager' QB would have given us the win tonight.

Why would anyone want to keep Baker?
He has sealed his faith here with the 4th Int... time to move one. No drama, we need a QB and a kicker.

Just wondering if Brady would have won more games if he had a torn whatever... Baker put up points and yards in the games before the injuries, had a great QB rating.. idk what to think. Been a tough season.
Baker is not in the HOF yet so he must be a bust like Ryan Leaf. He should have thrown for 600 yards, and 10 tds, while playing with two broken arms.
At least you are seeing reality now.

What has baker done this year to show that he's worth a long term deal?!?
I want nothing to do with a coaching change.... but I'm questioning baker long term.... I personally think the Brown should exercise his 5th year option... but I'd be looking to see if there's a better option out there....
I really like Baker... but I'm tired of watching him lose when the game is in his hands.... how many times this year did he have the ball with the game on the line and fail??
Baker's not bad, but he's not a winner. Being a winner is a real thing. It's when you maybe aren't the most skilled guy, but you are for brief periods when you need to be...when it matters most. Look, Brady is the goat but no one in the history of the NFL can throw the ball like Aaron Rodgers. He is the most skilled, gifted passer of the ball ever. Would completely shred Brady in a throwing contest. But Brady is a winner. It's the way he's wired mentally. He finds ways to get it done even with cement shoes.
Baker's not a winner. He hasn't been since college. It's a real thing, a real skill. After four years that's probably not changing. What does that mean for next year? I have no idea. Can't waive a magic wand and find a replacement.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
I'd rather run it back with Baker then sign Carr. If Carr is an upgrade at all, it's not much. Would be the kind of uninspiring move that might finally make the decision easy for me not to tune in.
