Here's their answer. Someone yells fire in a crowded theater. The fire department comes and finds no fire. (over 60 court cases, Trump's own department of justice and even Republican election officials in several states). Their answer? "It isn't about the person who yelled fire. We really need to look deeper into whether there was a fire or not."
A crowd yells "Mike Pence" and even hangs a noose up outside. That same crowd is yelling they're going to get Pelosi and commit violence against law enforcement to the point that 140 officers are injured. They attack them with everything they can get their hands on from flag poles, to fire hydrants. Then when they get to the last line of defense that separates them from the very same people they have been threatening to maim and kill and using deadly force is something they somehow consider wrong.

Yep. And I actually liken it to the whole “panic room” scenario that many gun owners and activists employ in their own home defense: if someone breaks into your house, get your family into a safe room, lock the door, and arm yourself. Go ahead and let them take the belongings elsewhere in the house, hence your insurance, but if they bust open the door, fire, because they’re no longer just coming after your belongings. That’s essentially what happened to Ashli.
You don’t hand the gun to your spouse and say “Hang on to this while I tackle them and only use it if they explicitly use life threatening force. Words alone are not enough, because they have a Freedom of Speech!”

Why are we even still talking about this?
Capitol Police barricaded members of Congress in a room, and she was climbing through a window trying to get to them. He had his gun drawn and yelling at her to stop and she didn't. What else is supposed to happen in this situation? I agree on both fronts. My only real disgust is the hate in some people's hearts as evidenced by some of the comments in here. Thanks for the sensible comment, Oobs. SO, Wait, you agree she's the criminal, broke the law and got what she deserves? Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. I may not say she got exactly what she deserved, just like I would not say many of the recent shootings of black people being taken in to custody by police were "deserved". That said, once the protest started damaging property and threatening safety, that crossed from being a peaceful protest to a riot. At that point the rules of engagement change. My problem is that many who use this as their flash point moment don't say a "friggen" thing about riots in cities or say anything about suspects being taken in to custody who start fighting or fleeing the police. Every excuse in the world is used to support them, so, it is what it is. Don't think for a moment this is some "got ya" the way you may have felt in your reply. Here is the deal folks, law and order is pretty clear cut. Either it is lawful and orderly or it isn't. When we start to pick and choose what is and what isn't, and act on those choices in violent ways, we are done as a society. Thank you for acknowledging the error of their/her ways. She broke in and regardless of her motives, she destroyed property. However, NOT ONE of those other incidents/riots/acts of civil disobedience ever put the country in peril......NOT ONE OF THEM By the way, I'm all for prison time (or whatever the law calls for) for each and everyone of those involved in the other riots....and I and other have said so a million times.. NOT once have I ever tried to justify those actions....NOT once!

You don't use deadly force unless your life or someone else's life is in danger, period. Pretty sure capital police are trained on how to deal with mobs.
Who cares what they were yelling. First amendment. If your feelings are hurt by what someone was yelling then you should go find a safe space to hide in. You do understand that threats of violence are NOT covered under the 1st amendment, right? The 1st amendment is not a free pass to say whatever you want, whenever you want.

However, NOT ONE of those other incidents/riots/acts of civil disobedience ever put the country in peril......NOT ONE OF THEM That is where we disagree. My feeling is the actions in Portland and elsewhere have a direct correlation to what happened at the Capitol. I also disagree that the actions in Washington put our country in peril. I seriously doubt had everything gone the way of the rioters that today President Trump would still be in office nor would some other flag be flying over the nation's capitol. You're goofy if you think that today we could possibly be saying a pledge of allegiance to some "other" nation.

The actions in Portland and other places has NOTHING to do with Over turning a legal vote just to satisfy the meandering mind of a lunatic that thinks he didn't lose the election.. These are TWO separate issues that you are trying to spin into the same web so you can feel better about Jan 6 and attempt to lessen the effect... Both are the worst of Americans... no question, but one doesn't absolve the other.. You'd have to be GOOFY to think they are attached or similar.

So the actions in Portland and other U.S. cities during the summer made a violent crowd believe the election was stolen from them? Say what!?

LOL...no...I believe many of the events that took place added ammo in the minds of the people who stormed the capitol. When the dominos start to fall...well...you know, one leads to another.

Sorry man, but I ain't buying into it. if people are dumb enough to think that it's ok to attack the capital in the fashion they did, just because of a riot or altercation of some kind by who they see as opposition.... Sorry, that just doesn't add up...

The two are unrelated.

It seems to be one more excuse added to an already long list.

It seems to be one more excuse added to an already long list. Not an excuse. Just an explanation of how one action and add fire to another. Surely you understand how that works.

I understand that when the two are related to one another. About the same thing or related to each other where each side have opposing views. These two are not. We had a former president going around telling his supporters that the election was stolen from them. There was a catalyst that fueled Jan. 6th totally unrelated to the riots that took place over the summer. They were called to Washington. A group of speakers fired up the crowd claiming their country was being stolen from them and then were directed to go to the capital. Trying to connect these two is a reach of epic proportions and a cheap attempt to try and lay partial blame at the feet of others.

One was inspired by cops killing black people. The other inspired by lies and hatred spewed by a former president and his cronies.
