Travis Wilson. Our blown 3rd round pick. Would he contribute if we had an injury at WR? Or is he just a player that needs to be cut right now... I really don't have a problem getting rid of him if he sucks. Losing a 3rd rounder isn't the end of the world. Heck, we just picked up Ricardo Colclough (Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round, 38th overall, in the 2004 NFL Draft) for free off waivers.

Yeah. For the best WR to come out of that draft, he sure is having a hard time finding the field. I say dump the guy and sign someone that can help the team.

Most "Experts" say it's the third year that makes or breaks a reciever, maybe the coachs see something we dont see that makes Travis worth atleast a chance to be here for his third year. The last thing ya wanna do is cut a player you see something in, many time just a wait & see approch is worth the money you spend.
we must see something in him he's still here,

I agree. Wilson is terrible. He can't beat out Tim Carter, a guy the Giants coaching staff absolutely hated. Wilson has been active for like 4 games in his career. He's only on roster because of a lack of options elsewhere.

You're right. Wilson has some great physical tools, but being late to camp was behind. Then Chud comes in with a new system in his second year is causing him a challenge. Next year should prove whether or not he gets it.

Oh yeah, most guys go inactive for two seasons straight and it's someone else's fault not their own.

We are at the point of the season where you just don't dump players...it doesn't make any real sense, and if there were guys who could help...we or someone else has already thought about it.

Who said it was someone else's fault again? I think I said HE was struggling. I think there should be a reading and comprehension test before people are allowed to post here.

He can't catch a ball without using his body, which severely limits a players effectiveness in an offense where you have to catch the ball on the run, and over the middle a lot. Hell I'd rather have JaJuan Dawson back.

We should put him on the field to get his value up so we can trade him for a 3rd round pick next year.

I don't understand the need to do anything with him at this point.. I mean if he were taking up a roster or PS spot that we desparitly needed,,, then yeah,, make a move.. but as things stands, having him around isn't hurting a thing...

Oh you are correct. I guess I wasn't thinking that we should dump him NOW, but once the season is over. If we get an injury on WR we will need someone to plug-in. I don't know enough about our practice squad to know if any of those guys deserve a better shot than Wilson does, but I doubt they do considering Wilson is the one thats active and they aren't.

The one thing I like about this regime verses any of the others that we've had since 99 is that if they don't think a guys gonna make it, they don't seem to care if they drafted him or not,... He's gone.. PERIOD..
So someone in the know sees something more in Wilson than they do from others that are out there and could take a spot on the PS over him...
Myself, I have no idea what they see,, but they are in a way better position to evaluate that than any of us.

I see what in him what they see. Like Coach said, he's got all the tools. He just needs to believe that he belongs. Also, he needs to make sure he improves on all his deficiencies and he'll be fine. I remember the last time I saw him in the preseason. He had just dropped a ball, and was sitting on the bench sulking. As his teammates were trying to lift his spirits, he clearly looked like a man who lost his "mojo". I think we'll see a different Wilson come next summer.
But as for dumping him...there's no point...at this point. Let him continue to learn and practice, and if he can't make out of training camp with a roster spot...then hasta la vista.

I'm hoping you're right. Maybe now realizing he's on a much better team than he originally thought will make him concentrate harder in the offseason. Of course, that's not the right attitude. He should be concentrating hard no matter how good the team is. He's a pro now, and even more importantly, a Cleveland Brown.

Agreed. I just think at this point that he may be blowing his chances. Saying you're good doesn't mean that you are, or that people will believe you when you say it. I think that reality should be setting in on him, and this is his last real chance, not just with the Browns, but in the league.

One thing I wonder about. They keep Harrison on the inactives also, yet he proved he can play. I sometime think this staff is afraid of playing developing talent. I saw Wilson at camp his rookie season, and he looked good. This year at camp he could not catch the ball. In the last preseason game he and Quinn hooked up nicely more than once. I know many think he just sucks, but I have to believe he has the talent, just not the mind.

Physically he's an amazing specimen. Good build, solid speed, etc. But the guy has a propensity for getting hurt and making mental errors.
If you look at Harrison he's realistically not going to get many touches unless he would slot himself out as a contributor on third downs. Not many teams have a solid three back rotation with a good split up of carries.

Who's Travis Wilson?

Anyways...we don't need the roster spot right now so no skin off our backs.
Carter beat out Cribbs also...I don't see the hate on Carter - I don't love him but I see him doing what needs to be done.
Wilson would be a little more noticed if he could crack our Special Teams. If he was active I'm sure he'd get into more sets especially late in the game with us behind. But not being useful on special teams I'm sure he's simply inactive a lot as our WR corp is healthy.
We'll see what he brings to the table next camp! If so then he could be gone...no big loss.

I don't think we need any other WR's....
We have talent in both Travis Wilson and the guy on the PS... Steve Sanders...

...still...I'd like to see 3rd rounders make the team and eventually contribute. In that sence, it's a loss.

Guys like Travis Wilson who don't do much to get better, or to help the team, make guys like Josh Cribbs' job easier.

I hope you are not serious. Receiver and corner requires a whole different skill set. It requires quick, fluid hips, the ability to get out of a backpedal quickly, and generally more quickness and raw athleticism than the receiver position. Obviously, it also require the ability to tackle and support the run...
I hope you were just joking when you said that.
Much respect to ya, even if you wish me the opposite...

I don't expect much this year from him. He's got to do something in the offseason and prove he's worth a roster spot in camp next year.
If he doesn't turn out, c'est la vie. No skin off my nose.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I'd almost forgotten about Travis Wilson. 2nd year, hasn't impressed enough to even suit up... not a pretty picture. Maybe he can't block, or is a lousy route runner. Travis: it's crunch time for you; step up, or step out.

honestly, there is no way for us to tell, we haven't seen him do anything. In regular season games, the few he's been in, I've seen him make good catches. Who knows what he can be. We'll know soon enough one way or the other.
As for Carter, Crennel has him on the roster for one reason: speed. If there is a matchup that forces the speedy corner and saftey to cover BE and KW, that leaves Carter on a slower guy and he can burn up the field. Or he can just sprint up the field as a decoy to get the saftey to move to his side. Either way, he's faster than any of the other receivers, so that's why he's here.

If we were going to dump Travis Wilson, we should have done it in August. Now is not the time.
I think he goes to training camp with the Browns in 2008. If he doesn't perform, cut the cord.

And people that spew NONSENSE and have no idea what they're talking about make the job of those that do that much tougher. How do you know what Wilson is or isn't doing? I can tell you that within the Browns' organization, he is viewed as working his butt off, but having difficulty grasping the system and lost confidence. He hasn't stopped working hard, though. So, don't spew crap and pretend it's fact. It's dead wrong.

Any other life lessons sir? I think you'll find I rarely post something on here that I don't know something about. I'm glad you are able to share your view though, and I'll look into it.

Not funny. Happened to me last weekend. All 3 of my teams lost in the same weekend (Browns, Buckeyes, and the team I coach). But Mentor, my alma mater, is still alive. Go Cards!

Yes, we lost, but it's people like Big C making false statements about players that really tick me off.
